《Just Us ✔︎》1 | Lila

I was currently trying to rub the sleep out of my eyes. It was 6 am and the streets of New York were getting slightly noisy with occasional honks.

I look out my bedroom window like every other morning to watch people chattering and rushing to get into ubers or their own cars to work. They looked like little ants.

*laughs evilly*

I look at the time to see it being 6:20 am now. I decided it was a good time to get up and get ready. I entered my bathroom and did my everyday routine.

I don't shower in the mornings because I'm just going to get dirty once I'm home again.

I entered my closet and picked out a white turtleneck paired with a black skirt and a bomber jacket over it.

I pulled my hair back to comb through the tangles and let it fall over my shoulders.

I exit my apartment and head down to the lobby to greet Chrystal.

Chrystal has been the receptionist since I first started living here. She has strawberry blonde hair and big bluish-green eyes. She is insanely beautiful, and I often let her know that. She was older than me by 10 years, but she still looked like she was in her 20s.

"Hey, Lila!" She exclaims as she leans over the counter to give me a hug.

I giggle and return the hug.

"How are you on this fine morning," I ask jokingly while giggling at my failed attempt at trying to be elegant.

She chuckles, "I am wondering how you're this energetic during the crack of dawn, M'lady." She curtsies for added effect.

I smile brightly at her, "We may never know."

I reply and wave goodbye to her and begin my walk to Koala Leafery.

As I was walking to the café, I pass Brady. He was a homeless grandpa who has graced his appearance at the same corner sidewalk. I greet him and place my usual 40 bucks into his cup.

I felt generous today, so I decided to give an extra 20.

"Oh dear, why are you giving me extra today? You always give me 40 which I am wholeheartedly grateful for smiles."

He always calls me smiles because apparently, that's all I do.

I shrug my shoulders, "Please buy yourself a nice meal with it for your grandkids and wife." I say, giving him another smile.

His eyes begin to water every time someone seems to give him any form of currency. Even if it is just a penny.

I open the door to the café and smile inwardly at the aroma that surrounds me.

The smell of the coffee beans, sounds of the grinding from the machines, and small chatters among the customers bring music to my ears.

I begin to walk over to the counter and greet Lance.

"The usual Lillies?" He asked as he's already swiping and tapping his fingers on the cashier screen.

I nod.

His dirty blonde hair is in its usual fluffy form. He told me he never bothered to tame it since it never works for him, so he lets it go "commando".

I've known Lance for 3 years now since I've moved to the city fully. He's been a good friend of mine since the beginning.

He recently found a liking to a guy named Damon. I hope he treats Lance well. He deserves it after the amount of hate he gets from coming out as gay.

I don't understand why people hate the LGBTQ+ community. I've tried to understand their views on it, but it just hurt my brain and I think it caused me to lose some brain cells. Love is love. People can be whoever they want and love whoever they want.

"How's Damon?" I ask as I watch him make my usual cold brew with condensed milk.

A bright pink tint begins to form across his cheeks and nose.

I think blush is what they call it.

"H-he's g-great." He stutters out.

I noticed he stutters and fiddles a lot whenever we talk about Damon. He must be scared or nervous about him. I frown at this thought.

"Lance, is he hurting you?" I asked, concern lacing my voice. My eyes begin to get glossy at the thought that my best friend might be getting hurt.

"W-what? No, no, no, definitely not Lillies." He chokes out and looks me in the eyes as I watch his blue eyes go through a train of emotions.

"Then why are you so nervous? You know if he hurts you, I'll be sure to hit his no-no square. No matter how tough of a guy he is, once you hit that area, no guy can avoid doubling over." I say confidently as I take my drink and blueberry muffin from him.

Lance looks at me with a constipated look before bursting into a fit of giggles.

I frown, confused at this.

"You are so precious, Lillies. Don't worry, he's not hurting me. He's wonderful." He says through his fits of giggles.

"Oh, o-okay." I choke out, embarrassed.

I quickly walk over to my seat by the window and gaze out of the café to look at the cars and people who pass by.

I wonder if their days are going okay or if they would want a blueberry muffin too. Blueberry muffins always make me happy.

I decided to take out my iPad from my bag and get to studying for my exam that's coming up. I'm currently in medical school to become a doctor. Luckily, my school has an option for online or in-person classes; however, you have to have a valid reason for online classes with the professor.

I've always wanted to help someone. I was going to be a therapist, but I wasn't good at giving advice, so I settled for a doctor.

I opened up good notes and went to all the notes I've taken for the past two weeks.

I begin to talk to myself about the materials in my head to try and see if I've memorized and understood everything.

Just as I was about to take another bite from my muffin, the bell from the front door ringed, indicating someone had just walked in. I turned my head with my muffin still in hand to see two very muscular, intimidating, and attractive men walk in.

One had black hair that had a similar style to Lance's except his was less messy. He had a perfectly sculpted face with a sharp jawline. His light tan skin complimented his eyes. His eyes were a swirl of chocolate that looked almost black without the sun. He looked about 6'3 as he walked over to the counter and flashed a smile at Lance who stood there fiddling with his fingers and blushing furiously.

I giggled at Lance's flustered state.

That must be his boyfriend, Damon.

Just as I was about to turn back around, my eyes lock with the second guy.

His dark gray eyes seem to pull me into a trance. Just like Damon, he had a sharp jaw that looked like a razor. His high cheekbones displayed his clean face. He had a small stubble growing. His skin was a little darker tan color than Damon's. His hair was a bed of black that almost hooded his beautiful gray eyes.

He was so

Damon nudged him and his face scrunches up in a scowl. I giggle a little too loudly, which causes Lance, Damon, and the pretty guy to whip their heads towards me.

oopsies

Pretty guy stares at me with amusement, while Lance and Damon smirk at us.

I cover my mouth and turn fully in my stool to focus on my notes again.

I feel my cheeks heat up from the embarrassment and shake my head in frustration.

I feel a tap on my shoulder as I turn my head to lock eyes with those very pretty black eyes that have a contrast of gray in them.

I whisper, and then my face heats up a thousand times more after realizing I just said that out loud.

A light tint appears across his nose as he clears his throat. He lets out a deep chuckle that sends my stomach doing somersaults.

"I'm so sorry, oh my god. I'm Lila Naomi Melennia!" I say a little too loudly.

He gives me a breathtaking smile that makes me smile even bigger.

"I'm Enzo Roman Barachi." His deep voice sends me blushing furiously once again.
