《What's Your Diagnosis, Doc?》Chapter 20 - Good Guy and Ari

"Bye, Gabe! Thank you for the drive!" I cheered, waving at him as I walked towards the apartment building I lived in.

"I'll see you tomorrow, and you're always welcome to drive home with me." He chuckled, flashing me those pearly white teeth and melting my heart with his smile. I had those butterflies just looking at him. The man was too attractive for his own good.

"See ya!" I giggled, turning and going into the apartment building, noticing how he didn't leave until I was safe inside the apartment.

I immediately got into the elevator and went straight up to my apartment. When I got there, I called Mom.

"Hello!" Mom said cheerfully through the phone.

"Hi, Momma! Is Dad there?!" I asked her.

"He is. Should I call him over?" She asked me.

"You should." I laughed.

"You seem to be in a good mood." She laughed.

"I am and I'll tell you why when Dad is listening." I laughed, requesting a video chat. Momma accepted it and plopped onto the couch beside my dad.

"He's here, now tell me what's got my baby so happy!" Mom laughed.

"Well... a lot has happened today." I smiled.

"Ok, tell us about it." Dad said.

"Ok, long story short... Yesterday, Gabriel brought me home from work, we had muffins but they made him sick, so he showed up at the hospital today. Then when I was getting his medication, Noah showed up and he was a jerk, but Gabriel misunderstood. He was a little jealous about me talking to Noah so casually while I'd been pushing him away for so long... and then I kissed the cute idiot, and he was very surprised. Then, I discovered that it was his first kiss and felt guilty and went back to apologize for stealing it like that, but then he kissed me and told me it was perfect. Noah kept bugging me all day, but I don't care because I told him to get lost and he did and Gabe is taking me on a date tomorrow and he's so perfect and oh my God, I'm so happy." I laughed, finally breathing in after spitting it all out in one go.

"Woah... woah.... what?" Dad asked.

"That's amazing!" Mom cheered.

"He's so cute, Mom. You're going to love him!" I giggled.

"Wait... I'm still on the part where Gabriel got jealous because of Noah... go back, what happened?" Dad asked.

"Gabe was a little jealous because I've been pushing him away for so long but I was just talking to Noah so casually... then I kissed him to shut him up and it turned out to be his first kiss... so I went to apologize but he kissed me to shut me up... and he's taking me on a date tomorrow!" I said.

"Are you two official then?" Dad asked me.

"No. Not yet... he's going to take me on a date tomorrow, I'm planning the second date and then we'll do a third date and after that, we can make it official." I smiled.

"Well, where are you taking him for the second date?" Momma asked me.

"Uhm... I'm not sure... food isn't an issue, we have a place for that, but what about the fun part of the date?" I asked.

"What does he like?" Dad asked me.

"Kids. He loves kids so much!" I smiled, thinking how sweet he was with children.

"Ok, what else does he like?" Dad asked me.

"He loves his family. His sisters cooking is all he can eat. He said he can cook, I think he enjoys it too, I remember him saying he cooks to relax. He likes animals... he loves adventure, and he's super goofy. He's always helping people out. He's such an adorable man." I sighed.

"Alright... why don't you guys do something fun like an amusement park?" Dad asked me.

"I think after tomorrow I have a shift until the evening, but the next day I have a shift that starts in the afternoon... which means we can stay up... but do we really want to eat a meal and then go to an amusement park?" I asked.

"Oh, not a good idea... especially if either of you have a weak stomach." Mom said.

"Yeah... that's not happening. He'll throw up all over me and himself." I laughed.

"Ok. What were you thinking?" Dad asked me.

"I'm not really sure. I just want to have a lot of fun." I chuckled.

"You could... do laser tag or paintball or go karting, skating, you can literally do anything and have fun with the right person." Dad told me.

"I just feel like there are so many possibilities and I'm so excited to do everything with him!" I cheered.

"You never felt this way with Noah, did you?" Mom asked me.

"No, I didn't... I was always trying to be mature and responsible with him. Because he was so childish and irresponsible and I felt the need to compensate. Gabriel is so goofy and funny in the most mature ways." Ava laughed.

"It's good to be able to be yourself around a guy, Ava. That's one of the most important things." Mom told me.

"I agree... I like this man." Dad smiled.

"I can't wait for you guys to meet him!" I cheered.

Mom looked at me with the biggest grin on her face.

"You really, really, like this boy." She chuckled.

"I do! Because he's so different!" I smiled. "I told him how I don't really want to have kids, and I knew he really wanted them, but he told me he was already a teacher and he had so many family members who would have kids... so he didn't need his own and it was up to me if we had kids." I said.

"Are you sure you don't want kids, Sweetheart?" Mom asked me.

"I won't budge, Mom. I love kids, but being a mother is so much more, it's very important to have all the time in the world for your kid and I don't think I'll have that." I sighed.

"You can always take time off and have your husband make the money for a while, Ava. There's no shame in that." Mom said.

"I know, but I just don't really want to." I sighed.

"Alright, I'm just saying there are other alternatives, but a baby is your choice." Mom said to me.

"He mentioned adoption." I said.

"Would you consider adoption?" Dad asked me.

"No, I still don't want a kid. If we adopt a kid, that kid probably already has their problems and they'll need even more attention, attention that I can't give." I sighed.

"I know, baby. But... they have another parent." Dad said to me.

"But that isn't fair, Dad... I want my kid to have all of my attention as well as their father's..." I sighed.

"I understand. That is very fair, but I want you to still be open to a change of heart. Don't make it into something that you won't budge on just because you're stubborn." Dad told me.

I nodded my head.

"I won't." I smiled. "There's a lot that could change, especially with Gabriel by my side. He's just so good at making me comfortable." I said softly.

"He's sounds like a good man." Dad smiled at me.

"He is.... anyways, what about you guys? How was your day?" I asked them.

They began explaining how they went to pick something up from the store but Momma's heels snapped and Dad carried her there, then they bought her some new shoes there. I asked why she wore heels to the store and she told me that all her other shoes were gone. Apparently they were accidentally donated. She had put them all in a box to move them down to the basement and set them up there, and they put all the clothes they wanted to donate in a similar box. Dad ended up taking the wrong box and giving it in the donation box down the street.

My parents always had the weirdest most amusing stories, and they did things in strange ways, sometimes leading to situations like donating all your shoes by accident. I laughed my heart out as they had a tiny dispute about the shoes. They were so damn cute together. I hoped that one day Gabriel and I could be like my parents.

I talked to my parents for a little longer before I got myself to bed and had a very peaceful sleep. Until my alarm interrupted it. I got myself out of bed and to the hospital, Gabriel dropped off a breakfast and planted a kiss on my cheek and then he was off to work.

It was Friday though, so he'd be totally free to stay up for our date that night. My day wasn't bad at all, I saw lots and lots of patients, but it was a pretty slow day. Everything I did was fairly simple and by the time my day was over, I was in a great mood and ready to see Gabriel. I was very excited for our date and honestly, I couldn't remember being that excited for anything before.

I felt a tap on my shoulder and saw two of the nurses staring at the person who had tapped my shoulder. I turned to find a very handsome Gabriel. He had his hair styled with more care than usual, he had a cute outfit on. Unlike his usually casual attire, this was slightly fancier. He had a white long sleeve shirt on, which was rolled up to his elbows, and he had a pair of dark blue jeans on. He had a jacket in one hand and he had his other hand held out for me to take.

I smiled and turned back to the tablet I was just writing something in. I quickly finished what I was doing and grabbed my bag, taking his hand.

"Ready?" He asked me.

"I am." I smiled, taking his hand.

"Alright, let's go." He smiled at me, leaning in and planting a kiss on my cheek.

He lead me out to his car and opened the door for me. As soon as I got in I saw a bouquet of jasmine flowers laying on the dash in front of my seat. I narrowed my eyes at him and let him close the door and rush around to the driver's side.

"What?" He asked when he saw my expression.

"Why jasmine flowers?" I asked him.

"I don't know... I just felt like they fit you. You're so sweet and beautiful and jasmine flowers kind of encompass that, at least in my eyes." He said. "I also just really like the smell..."

"I was going to ask how you knew they were my favourite." I laughed.

"Oh, I didn't but good to know. I will keep that in mind which won't be hard since they're my favourite as well." He said happily.

"Alright, where are you taking me, Mr. Morelli?" I asked him.

"I am taking you to Angel's to get a meal, then we're going down to the waterfront and taking a walk before we go get changed at the little seaside mall and then go have some fun in the water." He said to me.

"What're we doing in the water?!" I asked.

"Well, I've borrowed Hazel and Ric's jet skis and we're going for a ride." He told me.

"No way!" I said, looking at this amazing man beside me.

"Yes way. Are you ready?" He asked me.

"Well, I might have to drop by the apartment before we go so I can get a swimsuit." I said to him.

"No, no. No worried, there'll be a wetsuit there for you." He told me.

"Perfect! Let's go!" I cheered, feeling so excited.

"Alright. Just a disclaimer, my family might bug us at dinner." He said to me.

"Of course they will, that's what family is for." I laughed.

"What? To bug me on dates?" He asked.

"Exactly." I giggled.

"Alright, Doc. Off we go." He said.

He gave me his phone and allowed me to control the music on our way there, which was amazing. But he kept getting notifications from one person.

"Gabriel... someone is really desperate to talk to you." I laughed.

"Who?" He asked me.

"Is says it's Ari." I told him.

"Ah yes. Either it's a crisis or her daughters stole her phone again. Just check the messages." He said to me.

"Are you sure? What if it's something private?" I asked him.

"It won't be. Ari tends to spam you until you answer and then she gets into it." He laughed.

"Alright." I chuckled, opening the messages.

There were ten messages, all of them were absolute nonsense.

"It's complete gibberish." I chuckled.

"Really?" He asked me.

"Yes. It's just a bunch of letters put together." I laughed.

"That'd be the girls." He chuckled.

"Can I text them back?" I laughed.

"Yeah, go ahead. I'm sure they'll get a kick out of it." He said in amusement.

I chuckled and started typing.

G - Hi, girls!

A - Fjiodhf

G - Wow, that's cool.

A - DHsio shufonsn fsouhrf nsdjbfgdhmz xsvh vnd nb bjbc

G - So cool, what else?

A - Sjdsios pizza.

"Oh! They said pizza!" I cheered.

"Really?" He laughed.

"Yes! Sss-jid-see-ohs pizza." I laughed, attempting to read the gibberish that came before pizza.

A - Oh my God. I'm sorry, Gabe. The girls stole the phone again.

"Oh, it's Ari. She's reclaimed her phone." I laughed.

"You can talk to her for a while, or if not just tell her I'm driving." He told me.

G - Hey, Gabe is actually driving.

A - Who is this?

"Who am I?" I asked Gabriel.

"You're Ava?" Gabriel asked in confusion.

G - Ava.

A - Oh my God! You're serious?!

G - Yes, it's Ava... do you even know who I am?

A - Of course! You're all Gabe talks about! Can I call you?

G - Sure.

A - Video call?

G - Yeah, sure.

I smiled and turned on Gabe's camera, checking my appearance and making sure I wasn't a complete mess.

"You look gorgeous, Ava." Gabriel said to me. "No need to check anything."

"Focus on the road, dude." I said, ruffling my hair a little as Arabella started calling.

I picked up and immediately checked my appearance. It didn't matter though, because that girl beat me in every way in terms of looks. I mean, you instantly get insecure when you see what she looks like. But she surprised me.

"Oh my God! You're drop dead gorgeous!" She cheered immediately.

"Are you kidding me? Have you seen yourself?" I asked her.

"Uhm, I'm nothing compared to you, Ava. What on earth?! Where did he find you?!" She asked.

"Mommy! Cookie!" I heard a little toddler screech.

"Come here." She said, looking away from her phone for a second.

Suddenly, two identical blond heads popped into view.

"So, you guys are on your first date, huh?" Ari said, winking at me.

I nodded with a smile.

"Yup. Let's see how good this guy does." I chuckled.

"He did amazing, I promise. Gabe never disappoints." Ari laughed.

"So, you're Arabella, his niece, right?" I asked her.

"Yup, that's me." She laughed.

"And those are the girls? Mia and Mila?" I asked.

"Yup. Say hi, girls." Ari said.

"Hi!" One of them cheered while the other hid her head in her mother's shirt.

I giggled and waved at them.

"Mila is the outgoing one and Mia is shy." Ari told me.

"Aw. And both are so pretty!" I cheered.

Ari chuckled and kissed her daughters' heads while they climbed all over her and messed with her hair and her cheeks.

"So, where is Gabe taking you?" She asked me.

"First we're going to eat... then a walk, then jet skiing." I chuckled.

"Oh my Goodness! That sounds amazing!" Ari laughed.

"I know. He's doing pretty good!" I chuckled, watching Gabriel turn red and enjoying the teasing I was doing.

"By the way, Theo, Evan, Vidal and Kiara are at the restaurant, so you guys better be up for some teasing." Ari laughed.

"I think I'm more prepared for it than Gabe." I laughed, seeing how flustered Gabriel was.

"Take care of my uncle, Ava. He might pass out from the embarrassment." Ari told me.

"Ugh, leave us alone, Ari." Gabe said making Arabella roll her eyes.

"I can't wait to meet you properly, Ava." She said, ignoring Gabriel.

"Same here. I'll see you soon, I hope." I chuckled.

"I hope so! Enjoy your date, I have to go. Mia has now opened the fridge and dumped the blueberries all over the floor." Ari said with a nervous chuckle. "Mia! No."

I laughed and let her go handle her situation. It wasn't long before Gabe and I arrived at Angel's. And so our date began.
