《Bride》Chapter 8

- You should have told me if you didn't know how to cook.
- Ouch! Gabrielo writes with a grimace. A little softer, you'll cut off my blood flow.
- If you didn't want to suffer, you shouldn't have cut the palm of your hand. Now let me do it.
Gabrielo continues to flinch with each spray of antiseptic. Even though it was a good idea, he should have told me that he couldn't cook. Or how to use a knife at all.
- That's it," I said, getting up. I'm going to finish - or rather - start making dinner.
- Okay, I'll go and shower. Thanks, Alma.
Gabrielo places a kiss on my forehead and turns back to our room. I feel a smile crack my face. I think this marriage is going to work out.

Finally, the weekend! I've been waiting for this day all week. It's time to go see Meavy! I have been waiting for this moment all day. Even more so because today we are doing our Sweets Time at my house. And she still doesn't know I moved out.
Gabrielo is working overtime to get on with some urgent projects. I bought our weekly snack and drinks. Not to mention this week's gossip. Everything is ready, I just have to wait for Meav' to come and get me.
- Hi babe!" exclaims Meavy, jumping on me.
- Hey, shall we go?
- Absolutely!
Meavy starts her car and I type the address into the GPS.
- You moved without telling me? Meavy is astonished, giving me her famous outraged look.
- More than just moving, I moved in with my husband.
Meavy slams on the brake, making me jump from my seat.
- Meavy!
- What? You've moved in with your husband. We need to celebrate!
- No nightclubs," I replied. I've had enough for the rest of the year, maybe even my life.

- Killjoy. For once, you could forget your problems," growled Meavy.
- The last time you advised me to go to a club to forget my problems, I ended up married for ever.
- Alma," Meavy cries. I'm begging you as a friend! Be a good person and come with me for one last night of debauchery.
Debauch my eye. The only thing you care about is finding something to do for the evening. I'd rather stay home, away from the trouble you're going to cause me.
We get out of the car and take the lift up to the flat. We sit in front of the flat screen in the living room, glued together, sharing a huge tub of ice cream. After a long time, I hear footsteps coming towards us.
The movie we are watching becomes quiet while the two protagonists get closer and the psychopath follows them without them noticing. He raises his arm and is about to stab them. The girl turns around and he jumps on her. A clearing of the throat makes us both jump on the spot. We jump into each other's arms with tears in our eyes.
- Is my wife being stolen from me now? Gabrielo asks, coming to kiss me when he returns as usual.
- She's better off with me, just like in the film," Meavy replies. Look at that.
The girl's girlfriend knocks out the psychopath with a bottle of wine and ends up stabbing him with it. She picks up her wounded girlfriend in the stomach and kisses her.
- Is this the particular reason you watch lesbian romance?
I turn to Gabrielo before slapping his shoulder.
- Anyway, I French-kissed Alma first, so calm down.
Gabo gives me an outraged look before starting to head for the exit.
- Meavy! I yelled as I threw myself at her. This was supposed to be between us!
- But! It's the truth. By the way," she began, turning to my husband, "are you coming to the club with us?

- I've got work to do tomorrow," he says apologetically.
- See, I told you he was busy," I insisted.
- But I can do it later if you want to go," Gabrielo adds with a shrug.
- 'Yeah! In the club!
Meavy runs through our living room without stopping. Hopefully she'll stop before she throws up her ice cream. I take the jar back into my hands to finish it. Might as well minimize the waste. My best friend goes up to our room and I am left alone with Gabrielo.
- Why? I asked, grabbing Gabo's arm. The last time I was in a club, I got married. Married !
I shake him by the shoulders as he sits on the sofa smiling. I fall into him and he wraps his arms around me before bringing his face close to mine. My heart leaps into my rib cage and I feel my breathing quicken.
- What's wrong? Embarrassed? he asks, raising an eyebrow.
- Not at all, I say, bringing my face close to his to kiss him.
- ALMA! COME HERE! Meavy shouts from upstairs.
I stop in my tracks and break away from Gabo's embrace. Meavy is waiting for me in our room with four different outfits.
- Which one? Quickly, I have to finish getting ready and get you ready. The perfect man could appear out of nowhere.
- For you. Let me remind you, I am married. So if you want to find your soul mate, it'll be without me.
- Pfft, always here to crush the mood and my dreams. Poor me.
- Yeah, yeah, yeah. Get dressed faster because after 11:00, I'm not stepping foot outside.
- All right, just wait a moment.

We both walk down the stairs towards the living room. Gabrielo is on the phone and seems rather relaxed. He sees us coming and hangs up without delay.
- Are you ready?
- Always, we answer in unison.
- Alma, where are you headed in this dress? Gabrielo asks with a tense smile.
- In a nightclub," I answered quickly. My husband decided we should go without consulting me, so I'm going. People can admire your wife. Be happy.
He becomes silent and approaches me. Meav' has gone out to collect her car while waiting. Gabrielo and kisses me on the forehead and hugs me.
- Sorry, okay? I thought you'd want to go out tonight. Even more so now that your friend is here. Now, don't you want to cover up a bit more?
- It's Meavy and I don't really feel like going to a club tonight. Anyway, you've already said yes to her, so forget it. Let's go before we make her wait too long.
- Let's go," he mumbles, holding onto my waist.

- Alma," Gabrielo calls out in my ear. How about we go sit down ?
- You should relax," I say, looking at his tense face.
- With what?
A mischievous smile appears on Gabo's face.
- With a cocktail you'll like. Come on!
We sit down at the bar and I order our drinks. A "Lady's Leg Cosmopolitan" for me and "The Versailles Experience" for Gabrielo. He should like it, I think.
- How's that?
- Not bad.
- I knew it. Shall we dance?
- Let's go," he says, holding out his hand.
Gabrielo leads me onto the dance floor and new music starts. Time passes and our dance turns into a game of seduction. I feel my body moving against his in a harmonious way and I can't do anything about it. Our faces get closer to each other before our lips meet. ...

8 217Alone (Werewolf Story)
At our orphanage, when you turn 16 you 'graduate.' This pretty much means that the leaders think you can take care of yourself enough to go to school. They provide us with a small apartment and enough money for food and water each month. But other than that we are all alone.Today was my 16th birthday. Today I would be leaving this prison forever. I would start school at Montgomery Prep next week and move in tonight. I would leave all of my friends behind in this small crammed cabin and try to survive off of the measly amount of money given to me by the leaders. To say I'm scared is an understatement.

A fact that made everyone blind to the cruel poison he'd held and used to ruin my early youth. I hated him and I'd hated him most when I came of age.Where on my sixteenth birthday, as all werewolves did, I found my mate - the other half of my soul in him. Broken and vengeful I swore and refused to give myself willingly to him. Not for any other reason, not for the gods and definitely not for Him. Not even when the cost of rejecting a mate resulted in a fate worse than death. I hated him, I'd never forgive him, I didn't want him and I was so certain I'd never love him.At least that's what I thought.Too bad, I realised it a little too late. ********READ AT OWN RISK: Your heart will break to pieces before it fixes itself back together.
