《Kings of Hawkings [bxb]》Chapter 1

St. Vincent's Prep School was the high school for the socialites.

Top tiered educational plans, renowned teachers, and a exquisite campus was just a few of the elements that set it apart from everywhere else. St. Vincent's was a place built by the wealthy for the wealthy.

Sitting at the top of the campus, earning the envy of all, was Jonas, Joey, Spencer. He was the top of the class, the co-captain of his track team, was the center of his powerful social group, and was dating the Emilia Pena.

He was one of St. Vincent's Elite; a group that stood on top of the social ladder with a bright future ahead of him.

High School was in the palm of his hand... until it wasn't.

Everyone has heard the saying "the higher you climb, the harder you fall", and Jonas fell miserably. It all started with a fight at the beginning of his Junior year. It was something he had never done before, but for the first time he had lost his reasoning. He found himself pounding another student until he was forcibly pulled away by the security guards.

He was upset, and expected his friends to come to help or comfort him. But when he looked around, he found that his peers' eyes differed from before. They used to look at him with awe, but now he only saw fear.

Whispers of Jonas becoming bestial and feral started spread around campus. The moniker "Wolf" echoed in the school's hallways.

His collapse was imminent He was promptly kicked off of the track team. His old friends called him violent and pulled away. Emilia thought he was frightening and broke up with him. Rumors spread that she started to date Lukas, his best friend of 6 years. All of the connections he tirelessly established were broken and he became isolated.

He desperately tried to crawl back into the school's good graces, but after a while, he realized that it was impossible. The stigma was permanent.

No longer caring for his appearance, he let his neat hair become long and disheveled. His slick uniform jacket was always wrinkled because of the constant scuffles with other students. He kept his button down shirt untucked and wore his tie loosely around his neck. He became 'slovenly' because there was no reason to prune himself for that school.

He set up his defenses and spent most of the time with headphones on with loud music. It was his way to avoid hearing the backhanded comments when he walked by.

He was the Wolf and finally reluctantly accepted this title. He no longer cared for courtesies and when someone got too close to him, he would chase them away with a glare. If someone started a fight, he would end it.

Jonas no longer conformed to St. Vincent's and became the dark and violent rebel.

His only relief was his local gym that he attended across town. The socialites would never approve if it, but he had been going there for the last 10 years. It was his much needed sanctuary, the one place where he could find some peace of mind.

Although it was the the catalyst of his fall from grace, he never regretted his first fight. He truly regretted the people he associated with and used to call his friends. He found out the hard way that this friendship was only skin deep. It was only applicable if he was popular.

Popularity was king, and he lost his crown.

He endured the torture of St. Vincent's with a restless soul for an entire year. He found comfort that the term was ending and was looking forward to the small reprieve.

However on the last day of school, he was caught unaware by a group of peers he used to call friends. He used all of his fighting skills, but barely emerged victorious. This was the turning point for him. He no longer could tolerate that school or the people who attended it. He chose to walk away.

The school gladly removed him for the roster and opted to keep the entire ordeal confidential. No one knew the truth of Jonas, and the pain he endured. Only the uncouth rumors of the Wolf remained.

His parents cared more for their social standing than the reasoning why Jonas had fought. They asked no questions about the circumstance and simply placed the blamed him. In order to protect his younger brother, Eli, from his negative influence, they kicked him out of their home.

Without a place to return to, he turned to his gym and was grateful that they took him in without question. They gave him a home, and enrolled him into Hawkings School for Boys for his last year of high school. They even set him up to stay in the off campus dorms during his school year.

His city had a number of high schools, but it was Hawkings that St. Vincent's despised the most. They were polar opposites and constantly butted heads. St. Vincent's focused on prestige, while Hawkings was the home for delinquents. It was known as a troublemaking school, the place to go when you had nowhere else to turn to.

St. Vincent's was haughty and would talk a big game, but there was a lingering fear of Hawkings and their violent tendencies.

What truly left St. Vincent's on edge were the Kings of Hawkings, the ruling body of Hawkings students. Jonas knew very little about them, but still understood that they were not to be trifled with. They were explosive and sadistic. The entire school was ran by them, and they had no qualms about destroying anyone who got in their way.

Yet this was the world that Jonas had now entered.

Jonas walked through the unfamiliar hallways of Hawkings and watched how most of the other kids his age were already socializing with each other. That was the downside of coming to a new school his senior year; everyone already knew each other and created their groups.

Although he had no one greeting him or showing excitement to see him, he still felt much more comfortable here than he did at St. Vincent's.

Instead of the luxurious uniform, he donned a plain blue Hawking's jacket with a casual grey shirt underneath. The waist of his black jeans hung loosely off his hips. His clothes were baggy enough to obscure how toned his body was.

His hair wasn't styled and he wore non-prescription glasses to hide his facial features. He clearly wanted to avoid drawing attention to himself. No confrontations. No fighting. No troubles. But nothing works as planned.

He was looking down at his schedule, when he heard a small yelp as a smaller boy crashed roughly into him. Jonas grabbed his shoulders and steadied him. The boy looked young with wavy blonde hair and bright blue eyes. He gave Jonas a terrified look and squeaked. He was holding onto the bottom of Jonas' shirt unconsciously and looked back to a group of bigger kids that were Jonas' age.

Jonas was going to just ignore the situation, but could feel the kid trembling. He groaned inwardly because there was something about him that reminded him of his younger brother. Jonas knew that the moment he stepped away, these bullies would attack this weaker looking boy.

They were your typical bullies; necks thicker than their brains.

"Travis, you better watch where you're going." The leader of the trio said with a sickening laugh.

Jonas looked down at the small boy named Travis. He could feel a shudder go through his body. Jonas no longer hesitated and practically picked Travis up from the back of his jacket and roughly shoved him behind him so he was clear of the bullies.

"Fuck off kid." He said with clenched teeth.

Travis shook while he stared at Jonas with watery eyes. He realized that he ran into someone scarier than the three who were originally after him.

"I... I'm sorry." He tried to mutter, but was cut off with a glare from Jonas.

It suddenly dawned on Travis that the new kid was intercepting the trio on his behalf, which made him panic even more.

Travis pulled on his arm. "You can't! That's a -"

Jonas sighed and cut him off again. "Go, kid." He said with a low growl.

Jonas turned back and stared at the trio. "Next time, watch where you're throwing things." He said darkly, basically accusing them of pushing Travis into him.

The leader strutted up and stopped inches in front of Jonas' face. "What the fuck are your going to do about it, four eyes?"

Jonas clicked his tongue. "Four eyes? That's all your brain can come up with?"

Jonas was inwardly cursing himself. Why couldn't he just stay in the background like he planned?

The leader stepped back and swung his fist. Jonas watched it like it was in slow motion, not even bothering to block it. The fist landed on his face, but the strength behind it was weak. He wasn't even forced to step back, only slightly turn his head.

Jonas snapped his head back and snorted at the thug. "Got that out of your system?"

The leader grit his teeth and lifted his fist again. Jonas narrowed his eyes and stepped towards the boy. He was ready to stop the fist and retaliate because he won't allow a second free pass to hit his face. As if sensing danger, the thug hesitated.

"Don't embarrass yourself. Just tell me where room 103 is." Jonas waved his schedule in front of the boy's face.

"Find it yourself, fucker." He spat out and walked away with his cronies.

There were a few boys in the crowd who ran to the scene when they heard Travis was in trouble, but stopped the moment Jonas pulled Travis behind him. They wanted to see how the situation would unfold.

This group of boys were well-informed of the ongoings of the school, so they knew when they received new students. When they first saw Jonas walk in, they pegged him as a quiet and shy boy. He seemed to be in the wrong place because of his demeanor and outfit. But just within this interaction, Jonas showed a couple of things; he was strong enough to easily take a hit, and he had some sort of moral compass because he protected Travis.

Jonas didn't know there were several pairs of eyes scrutinizing him. He shrugged his backpack on one shoulder and sighed. He was about to walk away when a small hand reached out and grabbed his sleeve.

He looked down and saw Travis looking at him with a sheepish grin on his face. "Um... thank you."

Jonas was taken back by Travis. Most people would shrink away when they saw Jonas act like this. He gave him a small nod but Travis kept his hand on Jonas' sleeve. "I can show you to room 103. It seems that we have homeroom together."

Travis was an extremely bright person, and was almost a breath of fresh air from all of the testosterone surround him. Jonas couldn't find a reason to say no to the kid so he nodded in agreement. He was suddenly pulled away by the smaller boy.

His first day was definitely interesting.
