《A Bully's Regret》Chapter 11

She squealed as she felt Harrison's strong arms wrap around her middle and lift her up.

"Harrison, put me down!" she laughed.

"Never." he whispered against her ear, causing her to shiver in delight.

She turned in his arms and threw hers around his neck.

"Missed you."

"Missed you more, babe."

He gathered her up in his arms and planted a searing kiss on her lips. His tongue swept inside her mouth before he pulled back with a grin.

"How's the venue?"

"Good, I don't know why I hired this set up company. They've called me so many times this morning that I just came in. We went through the look about a million times before today."

"Aww poor baby. What can I do to make you feel better?"

His eyebrows waggled and he leaned forward to take her mouth again. But before his lips touched hers, a cutting feminine voice interrupted.

You've gotta be fucking kidding me.

"Well, isn't this sweet," Jessica sneered. She came up behind Harrison, her hands on her slim hips.

Harrison sighed and turned to face her. He wrapped his arm around her shoulder and pulled her close to his side. She slipped her hand around his lower back and snuggled against him.

Jessica surveyed them, eyes rolling in displeasure. She had given up all pretence of trying to be pleasant. And given the jealousy flaring in her eyes, she knew why the beautiful blonde was spitting daggers at them.

"Jessica, what can we do for you? Thought you were helping out still at the hall."

Grace stiffened at the idea of Harrison and Jessica alone together. Harrison squeezed her shoulder in comfort, instantly relaxing her.

"I was, but since you were taking a break I thought I would too." she turned to Grace and smiled the way a predator would before they pounced.

"You would just love the theme, Grace. Did Harrison tell you that we were reliving our prom days? Guess you didn't miss prom after all."

"Okay, that's enough Jessica."

"Why? Don't you think Grace should know that this whole fucking event was for her benefit?"

Grace's head jerked back in confusion. She glanced up at Harrison.

"What's she talking about?"

"Jessica," he hissed.

She smirked, arching her perfectly lined brow in scorn.

"I heard you and James talking this morning, about how you hoped this reunion would make up for Prom?"

The blood drained from her face. Painful memories that she had long ago buried rose to the surface. Her arm dropped from around Harrison's waist.

"Grace, listen to me-"

"What the fuck is she talking about, Harrison?"

"His little pity favor he did to you all those years ago? Harry here still felt so bad about it that he planned this whole reunion for you. Why do you think the theme is "prom revisited?"

"You bitch, Jessica," Harrison growled, "It was you - Grace! Wait"

She had heard enough. She power-walked down the street towards Amelia's house. Shame and embarrassment overwhelmed her.

"Grace!" Harrison cut her off, holding her shoulders from walking further.

"Tell me it's not true," she begged.

He hung his head, shaking it. "Let me explain," he said.

"Did you or did you not plan this reunion for my benefit?"

He paused for a second, brown eyes pleading with her.

"Did you?" She demanded.

"Yes." he whispered.

"Because you felt sorry for me?"

He groaned. "Yes and no. Let me explain, please!"

She had to get away. People were already watching, whispering to each other.

"Let me go," she said through gritted teeth.

"Grace-"

"Let. Me. Go."

He pulled back.

"You've done enough."

He let go and moved aside, his face pinched in agony. "I'm sorry, Gracie. I'll give you space. But please promise me you'll come tonight?"

She would do no such thing. She strolled on, angrily brushing away the tears that had escaped her eyes.

She rushed through the front door, slamming it angrily.

Amelia poked her head out of her bedroom at the noise.

"Hey, what's wrong?" she asked when she spotted Grace's red, tear stained face.

"Did you know?" She asked Amelia angrily.

On the short walk home she went through what Jessica had said. Planned this reunion for her? James knew? She remembered Amelia pressuring her to take on her role on the committee. She thought it strange that she had taken on an extra task during the lead up to her wedding but she didn't think more into it. Especially since she started to fall for Harrison and looked forward to their meetups. The more she thought of it, the more she realized that Amelia had to have known. The betrayal crushed her.

By the guilty look on her face, she knew it was true.

"Why?" she cried.

"Because he asked me to."

"That's it? You set me up because he asked you to?"

"Grace! I did not set you up. Would you stop being so dramatic! Did he explain to you why he did it?"

"You really think I wanted to stand around Main Street and listen to him?"

"He told you on Main Street?"

"No, fucking Jessica did. She overheard Harrison and James talking this morning. Like I was some fucking punchline in a joke."

"Jessica told you? Jeez no wonder you're pissed. I take it she was as subtle as a bull in a china shop."

"Amelia! This isn't a fucking joke. Why did you guys set me up?"

"Grace, you need to talk to Harrison. Let him explain."

"I don't want to talk to fucking Harrison! Do you know how humiliating this whole thing is? Dragging feelings up that I had forgotten about, that I had forgiven him for?"

"He apologized for the bullying, Grace! You said you forgave him."

"This isn't about the bullying, Amelia!"

"Then what is it about?" She cried in frustration.

Grace took a deep breath. "I need a drink before I talk about this."
