《Claimed By Darkness》CHAPTER 25

We had started to come up with ideas to break into the mansion where Harry was staying. Apparently when Caspian woke up in the early hours of the morning, he teleported around town and created a quick 'map' of sorts. We also found out that Harry was hosting a big ball in order to crown him as king of the elves.
We were all shocked to say the least, and it was happening in only three days. Three days! High ranking White Chain members from around the world were invited to join the ceremony slash ball.
"Okay guys I think I might have an idea... We're going to have to act fast, but I think we might just be able to pull this off." Jude said deviously, everyone looked at him with questioning glances before he continues. "First we are going to need some epic disguises."
Let's fast forward to after Jude explains his complicated yet genius plan. Caspian and I are sent off to steal some outfits for the ball. At first, Luna complained massively about how stealing is wrong and how we shouldn't do it. Caspian rolled his eyes and gave me a look of what can only be described as disgust and annoyance. I almost burst out laughing but assured Luna that it was fine and we would return it, yeah right.
I follow Caspian out of the door, we both had the hoods of our jackets up to avoid being recognised. But it was dark anyways so it should be fine. We walked around to an alley and we both stood in a shadow.
"I saw a clothing shop when I was out here the other day," Caspian whispers to me. I nod wordlessly but Caspian suddenly grabbed my hand.
"What are you doing?" I ask as I look down at our entwined fingers.

"You don't know where the shop is so I have to shadow travel us both there," Caspian says as if it was the most obvious thing in the world.
A second later we are standing in an empty shop, with rows and rows of fancy clothes.
"Have you ever stolen anything before?" Caspian asks me as he walks over to the suits, thumbing through them.
"A pack of gum from a convenience store but that's it I think."
He hums in agreement, pulling out a blue coloured suit. "I think Jude would like this don't you think?"
"Uh yeah... Sure," I mutter before walking over to a large rack of ballgowns. We both stay in silence while we browse our options.
"I think Jude would be happy to wear this bowler hat and use this cane when we attend the ball."
I laugh at the ugly hat Caspian had picked up, and a long thick silver cane with a snake head at the top. "It's perfect," I reply.
"Yeah it is, and Luna should wear that feather boa over there." Caspian points to a white feather boa on display. I let out another chuckle before picking it up and throwing it over my shoulders. "Wow Caspian, you truly have an eye for fashion."
"Ha. Ha." He replies before grabbing another suit off the rack, "I think I'm done here what about you?"
Just as he said that I find a beautiful pastel pink down that had a bedazzled bodice and a silky skirt. I could imagine Luna walking around in it, it was perfect for her.
"I've found a dress for Luna, now I just need one for myself."
I continue milling through the large array of options, until something catches my eye. It was one of those veil headbands, since Harry knew my face, one of those would be perfect for me.

"Hey Odette, come over here."
I walk over to the back of the shop where Caspian was holding something, but it was too dark for me to see what it was. As I stood next to him I saw he was holding a elegant black dress with a plunging neckline. It was simple, yet very beautiful.
"Thanks, I'll take it," I mumbled as I took it from Caspian.
"Cool, let's get out of here."
Luna was very happy with her dress and she was in love with the feather boa, which pleased me greatly. Jude had a fuming look on his face when Caspian handed him the bowler hat and cane. But we all told him he had to use both items and that he would look great. Now all we had to hope we had gotten the right sizes for everyone.
Caspian had also done us the honour of stealing us some food from a local supermarket, he brought back ready-made sandwiches and salads. As well as lemonade which I downed in the matter of seconds.
Two days later
To say we were nervous was a massive understatement, Jude kept on repeating and going through his plan over and over again. Luna was constantly worrying about what would happen, and I could even feel that Caspian was on edge. But we all settled in for the night. The day before the ball, elf-kind was resting on our shoulders. Why? I have no idea, surely someone else would have been more qualified to do this. But being me, I woke up in the middle of the night and I find myself sitting on the porch with Caspian who was already awake.
"Hi," I stated as I sat down next to him. My thigh brushing his lightly as we sit in the freezing night.
"Hi..." He trails off before we bask in silence.
"You know, I've been meaning to ask you something..." I disclose lightly.
"Okay what is it?"
"You know how we kis-- You know what it doesn't matter."
"No tell me, you were going to ask me about this kiss right?" Caspian asked slowly, looking at me with an expression I couldn't decode.
"Yeah but, I mean, I was just wondering what it meant..."
"I don't know Odette, you make me feel things I have not felt in centuries."
I gasp at his confession, I was not expecting that at all. "Yeah, the butterflies in my stomach make me feel like I'm gonna puke." I instantly regretted my reply, that was such a stupid thing to say!
Caspian laughed out loud, (he has a really nice laugh). "I can't disagree with that."
"So what now?" I inquire.
"Now nothing, I am a God for crying out loud, you're just the elf I claimed. We can't be together, it just wouldn't be possible."
My heart sinks at his response, I mean he was right but it still hurt. "I know," I murmured before going back inside. I needed to go to sleep and forget about this.

ALSO! Here are the outfits everyone is going to wear at the ball (for all those who enjoy looking at this kind of stuff)

Of Gods and Dungeons
March 16, 2021 - Hiatus note: I will come back to this story! I'm really struggling with it, though. It's been a number of years and I kind of forgot what the original outline was. I still remember the main path, but not any of the details, because I stupidly didn't write an outline. Progress is being made. I'd like a very decent sized buffer before I start posting again. Don't want to get hopes up only to immediately disappoint! ----- Amy Barnes, an aspiring chemical researcher, finds herself dying from cancer. One of her most desperate prayers is answered in a way that she'd never dreamed possible, and she finds herself living a new life as a dungeon. Warning: Violence, morbidity Cover: Taken from here, courtesy of www.pexels.com by photographer @tookapic. Author's Note: I've read some dungeon core stories on here, and they've tickled my fancy. I've thought up a whole story, start to finish, and thought it'd be a blast to put it into words. Other than the violent and morbid aspects, this story is suitable for children. Aside from the vocabulary, that is. I will avoid the temptation to have any cursing, sexuality, or gore. Excessive gore, I suppose - it is a dungeon story, after all. I’ll do a little research from time to time, but this story will not have a great deal of rigor. I’ve made Amy’s knowledge comparable to my own for that reason. There’s a few things she knows more about than I do, and a few things that she knows less about. Unlike me, she doesn’t have access to Google - it’s a non issue for her to be more knowledgeable than me, on occasion :P This story does not use the same magic system that I’ve used in either Sorcery in Boston or A Summoner’s Confession. This one is mostly intention based, and designed to be easier access for people who are more used to the idea of, “It’s magic, therefore it works” kind of thinking. Do note that Amy is, in most senses of the term, overpowered. This goes along with the usual dungeon core stories. She’s not more powerful than other dungeons per se, but she does have knowledge and intelligence that puts them to shame. I thought about doing this in a LitRPG style, but systems take balance, and I wanted this to be pure fun to write. This story was inspired from a few sources. Despite the title, it wasn’t really inspired by Of Mice and Men, though some of the themes match. Rather, I’ve taken inspiration from a few dungeon core novels on Royal Road Legends for the main idea. Many conventions of dungeon core stories have been perverted from the genre, however. I’ve taken my usual science-loving self to town to play around with the powers, and I can only hope you have half as much fun reading this as I have had writing it.
