《Forced Enemies》Chapter Five

The walk was silent, neither of us talked as we walked through the dark woods, the sounds of sticks cracking beneath us echoing throughout the quiet air.

"Can you breath any quieter?" he snapped, his gaze quickly turning to mine as he spoke.

"Can you talk any quieter?" I snapped back, moving away from him, trying to get ahead.

I was now in front, and I turned around, walking backwards as I spoke my next words.

"Maybe you should stop being an asshole," I gritted out, shifting my body to turn back, but a large stick stopped me, making me trip to the ground.

I groaned as I heard the sound of laughter behind me, Kye's body slumped over with deep chuckles as he stared down at me.

"Bitch," I muttered, trying to lift myself off of the ground.

I winced as I stood up, stepping down on the ankle that had tripped over the branch.

When I placed my foot down, a shock of pain jolted through my body, sending myself falling forward towards the ground once again.

I closed my eyes, prepared to feel the cold dirt against my face and the sound of laughter behind me, but I didn't. Instead, I was met with a warm hard chest, and the sound of silence.

When I looked up, Kye's face was stern. His eyes staring down at mine as he held onto me, his arms wrapped around my waist to keep me steady.

"Are you okay?" He asked, looking down towards my ankle.

"Yeah-" I said quietly, then I cleared my throat, "yeah, I'm fine."

I pushed myself off of him, trying to balance myself out as I stood up.

"You can't walk-" he started, but I held out a hand, stopping him from speaking any further.

"I'm fine," I said, closing my eyes as I stepped on my ankle once more.

"I can't fucking watch this," I heard him mutter, and I gasped when I was lifted into the air, my side pressed against Kye's chest as he carried me bridal style.

"Put me down," I spat out, trying to push myself away from him, but his grip was too strong.

"Don't be ridiculous Aliyah, you're hurt."

"I'd rather walk with both ankles sprained then having you carry me," I gritted out, watching him as his eyes met mine, giving me an odd look.

"I'm supposed to watch over you, so no. As much as I would love to leave you here to rot in these woods, I must carry you."

I rolled my eyes, gripping onto the back of his shirt as he made his way up a hill.

"You can't possible hold me this long," I said, his body not even showing a sign of discomfort.

"You underestimate me," he smirked, his fingers slightly pinching the skin at my thighs.

"Knock it off," I gritted out, and his smile grew more.

The walk turned back into silence once more, the idea of not walking anymore making my mood change into the other direction, a slight smile on my face.

"What arrangement do you and my father have?" I asked, breaking the silence.

"That's something you can't know," he said, turning down the darker path in the forest.

"Seriously," I groaned, "we're supposed to hate each other, and now you're involved in my mafia."

"Oh don't worry," he started, "I still hate you," he smiled.

"This is a business arrangement Aliyah, and I won't let us get in the way of it."

I rolled my eyes once more, the anger starting to form inside me once again.

"You're an asshole, did you know that?" I said to him.

"I've only heard it many times tonight," he replied, wincing as I dug my nails into his back.

He looked up into the sky, and then back to me, the gears turning in his head as he paused for a moment.

"We'll have to stop here for the night," he said, placing me down on the nearby log.

"Stay here? We don't have a tent," I stated.

"Well, princess. We won't be staying in a tent." He said to me, grabbing a pile of sticks by a nearby tree.

"Fuck no."

"We don't have a fucking choice, it's this or you start walking by yourself," he spat back, dropping the sticks in front of me.

He bent down, grabbing one and twisting it against the other, creating a hole inside it.

I thought he was stupid for the first couple minutes, but then I saw a thin line of smoke in the dark, and then flames.

The pile of sticks was lit up, the hot fire eating at the old wood.

He sat down next to me, both our eyes on the dancing fire in front of us.

"Where did you learn to do that?" I asked, watching as he rubbed his hands together.

"Training," he shrugged, and I hummed at his comment.

I sat down on the ground, placing my head on the cold leaves underneath me, my body starting to shiver from the colds night air.

The sudden warm contact on my back made me jump a little, and then I felt the warm minty breath at the back of my head, Kye's hands wrapping around my waist as he pulled me closer.

"We have to keep warm," he whispered to me.

I wanted to protest against this, but I didn't. Why didn't I?

Maybe it was because of how warm I felt at this moment, and how comfortable I felt against him.

So I just nodded my head, both our bodies pressed together as we fell asleep in the dark woods.
