《MC's Viking Warriors- Bear #1》Part 27- Astrid

A steady beeping and a clinical smell wake me up from whatever dark corner of my mind I was residing in. My eyes fly open and I find myself in a hospital bed, hooked up to a machine and confused.

There's a warmth on my right hand, and when I look down I find someone holding it in theirs. Vidar. He's fallen asleep with his head leaning on his shoulder. It can't be very comfortable for him to be holding my hand like that, his own arm must be aching and stiff, so why hasn't he moved it?

With my thumb, I slowly stroke the inside of his calloused palm and watch has his eyes flick open to look at my face.

I smile slowly at him, he grins back at me.

"Hey..." I whisper, my voice a little hoarse.

"Hi baby, I'm just going to get the nurse ok?" I shake my head frantically as he tries to pull his hand free of mine. "Baby please."

"No! Don't leave me. Bad things always happen when you're gone!" My voice is stern and steady, but my heart is fitting and spluttering at the idea of him not being close to me.

"Ok." He sighs heavily and instead pulls out his phone, he begins to type something rapidly. Within a few moments a nurse and a doctor walk in. The doctor is a man, and I shrink slowly back towards Vidar.

It still takes me some adjustment to not fear men I don't know. The doctor smile sympathetically, like he understands about me.

Vidar squeezes my hand tightly and the doctor clears his throat to speak. I turn my attention respectfully to him.

"You have a concussion Miss Hansen."

I frown- that's not my last name, I look at Vidar with a confused expression. He looks down at the ground guilty and understanding clicks in my brain. A warm flush glimmers in my chest- that's his last name.

"It was caused following your... incident..." He looks distressed for me, maybe he's a nice one. "And you need to be very careful with what you do. Bed rest as soon as you leave please. Normally, I'd just advise being careful but you're pregnant and underweight so it's too much for your body to cope with at the moment."

"Why did I collapse though?" I ask boldly, with Vidar beside me I'm confident and protected.

"The heat from the shower can cause anyone to feel a bit light headed. For you, your body was overwhelmed. It was probably too physical... honestly lots of things you're dealing with could have caused a collapse."

I nod slowly, I should have stayed in bed. I shouldn't have tried to do anything. I'm so useless.

My thoughts are broken by the feeling of safe arms enveloping me.

"I'm sorry." Vidar whispers over and over again, I pull away. Puzzled I reach up and stroke away the stray tear that has fallen down his cheek.

"Why are you sorry? It was my fault."

He shakes his head and grips my right hand again, tighter in his grasp. "I should have taken you to the doctor or hospital. I was just so glad you were back with me, but I should. That's why you got hurt again. I'm so sorry I failed you."

"You didn't fail me." I'm crying now due to his guilt and pain, it causes my heart to break. The door is thrown open and Mouse walks in.

"How's about we agree it was no ones fault? Sound good girlie?" I nod as I brush away my tears, I feel a tinge of pain in my left wrist and I look down to find it wrapped in a bandage.

"You sprained it when you fell." Vidar explains to me, "but the baby was unharmed because of it. I should have been there for you."

Liam has obviously had enough of being with Mouse as he is pulling to get out of his arms. Mouse mocks offence and places my baby boy on the bed by my feet.

"Careful of your mother little Warrior." Mouse says to Liam as he ruffles his hair, Liam leans his head back so he can look over at Mouse as he speaks. He claps his little fists and drools slightly. He then begins to crawl towards me, up the bed cooing happily as I hold my good arm out to him.

"Hi my baby, Mummy's okay. See?" He curls himself up under my arm and rests his cheek on my chest. Due to my huge bump, there is very little room for him on my lap. Vidar strokes his little cheek with one finger as he drifts off. Content to sleep the rest of the day away next to me.

"What time is it?"

"About 6."

"Woah! But it was only 8 when I had my shower."

He smiles sadly. "I know baby, but you were out for a long time. After a while the doctor's said you were just sleeping and healing your body, so you weren't properly unconscious the whole time."

I nod once again, finally understanding what had happened today. It was all very confusing.

"Can we go home now?"

"Yes baby, we can go home now."

He once again stands to leave, but I grip his wrist and shake me head. I don't ever want him to go again. Ruefully, he looks over at Mouse, they are clearly used to unspoken words as he gets the message and leaves.

Within a few moments I am signed out and free to go. Mortifyingly, Vidar had to help my get dressed. I was dying of embarrassment, but Vidar, ever the gentleman, never took his eyes from my face. Right up until he bent down to tie my shoes.

A wheel chair was fetched for me since I'm on total bed rest. Vidar had cheekily offered to carry me but this situation was embarrassing enough as it is- let alone being carried from the hospital by your hulking biker man.

By the time we were all bundled into the car, Liam was sleeping in his car seat drained from the stressful day. He held onto my finger as Vidar drove us home.

I was clearly more tired than I realised as I found myself driving off as the steady engine lulled my to sleep.

The sensation of falling awoke me once again, but I wasn't falling, I was close to Vidar's chest as he carried me through the cold of winter towards his cabin.

"I could walk you know."

"Nope, you're on bed rest. The only way you're travelling ever again is in my arms!"

I squeal at his protectiveness of me. It feels amazing to be cared about like that. Mouse is walking behind us carrying Liam, he's basically his nanny, Liam is lucky to have an uncle like Mouse.

Vidar carries me up the stairs and lays me on the bed. Mouse places a freed and bouncy Liam beside me and he immediately begins to roll around and chew at the covers.

Mouse leaves with a nod to Vidar, a "goodbye girlie" for me and a head ruffle for Liam. Vidar pulls my shoes off, grumbling about how pointless it was to put them on in the first place. I laugh and hold onto to stomach, so relieved we are both ok.

"I'm never letting any of you out of my sight again, you know that don't you Astrid." I nod, a little breathlessly as Vidar scoops me up into the bathroom so I can clean my teeth and go to the toilet. He leaves respectfully, but I can hear him standing outside the door, he's thankfully not focussed on me, but Liam instead.

I tap on the door quietly to signal to him I'm done. I don't want to risk walking and meeting his fierce protective side again.

The door is thrown open and I hold onto his arm as I make the few steps back into bed. Liam is now in his cot, and drooling everywhere. He'll be starting to teeth soon, I hope we're all prepared for when that happens.

"I'll be back in a minute, baby." Vidar says as he kisses my head and walks into the bathroom.

"You don't have to say where you're going every time you know!" I call after him teasingly.

He turns around with a serious expression on his face. "Yes I do."

I roll my eyes and lay back on the bed, laying under the covers and sighing as the warm snuggled over me.

I was practically dozing off when I felt the bed dip beside me. Shuffling over to his warm, solid body, I curl myself into his chest and groan contentedly. His arm goes up to stroke the soft skin beside my hip. I tense at the thought of him feeling my stretch marks there, but I soon relax into the action.

"You were with Finn, weren't you?" I whisper into the silence.

"Yes, I was baby."

"Is he..." I trail off, unable to say the words and afraid that he would get mad if I did.

"Yes, baby. He is."

All I can manage to say is 'oh'.

"It's ok now. He will never hurt you again."
