《Loving Mr. Cavalier》Chapter 3- "Thinking Out Loud"

So far on my first day, the only thing I could think about was that I was in very big trouble, and all because of a glass of red wine.

Liliana-

It would take a few minutes before Mr. Cavalier returned to his seat, and once he did so, I tried my best to not even glance at his shadow.

Chamille kindly showed me where to find the wine removal kit in the kitchenette. Apparently it was a common accident that occurred on these trips, and I was ready to breathe out in relief. However she rained on my parade when she said that I was the first to spill wine on Mr. Cavalier.

And as if that wasn't embarrassing enough, thinking back to our encounter in his room, I found myself cringing at how my mouth simply ran itself off in front of him.

I wish the floor of the plane could open up and swallow me whole.

After cleaning his shirt, Chamille did get Mr. Cavalier his glass of wine, then we had a moment to sit before lunchtime.

While Chamille submerged herself in a word search, I began reading a book to help me pass the time.

At some point I was so caught up in the story, I didn't realize that Chamille had stepped away, and Mr. Cavalier was calling for something.

Unsure of what to do, I closed my book and made my way towards him.

He was once again on his laptop, and here I was standing before him, waiting for him to acknowledge me.

"I asked for Chamille." He finally spoke after a moment, his eyes still glued to his computer screen.

"Well I apologize sir, Chamille had to step away for a moment. Is there something I can help you with?" I asked professionally.

"No I don't want you." He simply brushed me off.

Well ouch. That kind of hurt. It felt like a rejection.

Taken aback I had to suppress myself from rolling my eyes, and simply replied with a tight lipped smile "well sir, I'm sure whatever it is I could be of assistance, but of course if you'd prefer Chamille, I'll be sure to have her tend to you as soon as she gets back." With that I prepared myself to walk away, but after taking two steps out of his line of view, I heard his voice rise as he asked, "did I dismiss you?" And my heart sunk.

His tone, so rich and smooth, ran through my being, hitting the one spot I figured was dormant in my body. Not to mention, a bit of fear to unsettle my already nervous spirit.

Taking a deep breath, I pulled my shoulders back, composing myself, and headed back towards him.

I stood before him and he said nothing.

He simply had this subtle, pompous, arrogant smirk on his lips, and as I realized that he wasn't going to talk anytime soon, I sent a silent prayer.

He was punishing me.

Great.

Now I had to stand here for God knows how long, and I couldn't even say anything to the arrogant bastard.

"I'm a bastard?" I heard Mr. Cavalier's voice ring through my ears.

"Wh-what?" My mouth ran dry, an embarrassed heat rushing over my neck and face. I was thinking out loud.

"You called me a bastard." He simply accused, his eyes now resting on me, which did not calm my discomfort.

"No sir I did not." I denied, though my nervous fingers told him otherwise.

"Are you calling me a liar?" He questioned, cocking his head to the side. Oh he was enjoying this. He was amused. I could tell.

"Well technically I was thinking out loud, so it can be considered as a private conversation between me and myself, which pretty much means that what I said was not relevant to you." I blurted out before I could stop myself.

My mouth was going to get me in trouble.

His eyes remained on me as a curious gaze settled in his orbs.

He was studying me.

Without saying anything else, he simply hummed, wiping his long manly fingers over his mouth, before going back to his laptop.

I felt the urge to shift my weight on my legs, but I found that anything I did could land his eyes on me again, and that, I did not want.

I found it hard to focus on anything when his eyes were on me.

I didn't even know the man, and my body was reacting this way towards him.

Maybe my body was just tired and wanted some action with another human being. Not that I've had any action before, but maybe now I was getting curious and the first gorgeous man I see, I wanted to jump his bones.

I heard a soft chuckle from Mr. Cavalier, and my eyes flashed to his face as I registered a small smirk on his lips.

Was I thinking out loud again?

I could feel my body melting due to the amount of embarrassment that enveloped me. It was so awkward.

My heart was thrashing in my chest. My breathing was shaky, my palms sweaty. I could only imagine my uniform soaking under my armpits.

The heavy air around me was slowly suffocating me.

Somebody help me before I die of embarrassment.

Just when I thought all was lost, Chamille swooped in to save the day.

"Mr. Cavalier? Is everything okay?" Chamille approached us, and I sighed in relief.

Yes! She was my Savior.

"Everything is fine. I'd just like a glass of water please." Mr. Cavalier replied to her with a smile, as if everything was well in paradise.

The nerve of this man.

"Alright." Chamille nodded as she sent me a weird look before getting his glass of water.

When she returned, she asked "will that be all?"

"Yes, thank you Chamille, you may go." He dismissed her with a smug smile, then he went back to work, while I played statue.

Nooo. I wanted to groan when Chamille walked away, sending me a helpless gaze.

This had to be some type of harassment right? Like he wasn't actually allowed to do this... right?

I shook my head, I was going crazy. Having a conversation with myself, and asking questions that I had no answer to.

Pursing my lips, I huffed out a breath through my nostrils.

"Something bothering you Liliana?" He questioned, and I already hated when he did that. But when he said my name... hello.

"No sir." I spoke through gritted teeth and a stiff smile, I felt like doing some serious damage to his handsome face.

He hummed once more and stood up, and I drew in a sharp breath, hoping that I wasn't thinking out loud again.

It was always an issue for me. I could never control my mouth.

He took a step towards me, but I couldn't back away, heck his eyes were daring me to move, but I knew there would be consequences if I did so.

This was so weird.

My mind and body were responding to him in the most confusing ways.

I just couldn't understand how a complete stranger could have that effect on me.

He took another step, then passed me by as he headed towards his room.

Once I was sure he was gone, I sighed allowing my shoulders to sag. I did a little dance to relieve the pressure off my legs.

"What did you do?" Chamille asked as she approached me, though she couldn't keep the laughter from erupting in her chest.

"Help me! He called for you and I went to see if he needed anything, and he said he wanted you. So I politely walked away." I began to explain in hushed, quick whispers.

"Did he say you could go?" She asked, and I looked down in guilt as I said "well not exactly-"

"Liliana-" Chamille said in a scolding tone.

"I know, I know, but then he called me back, and he's had me standing there without saying anything. You have to help me!" I heaved, as I shook Chamille by her shoulders.

"Alright, alright, just give it a minute, I'll come get you. Heads up." Chamille warned as she scurried back to her spot, and I stood up straight, just as Mr. Cavalier returned.

He chuckled once again when he passed by me, as though he was enjoying an inside joke, and it took all my willpower not to groan out in exasperation.

Chamille once again approached us and she faced Mr. Cavalier as she said "Mr. Cavalier, would it be alright if I borrowed Liliana? I need to show her how we prepare the meals."

He peeled his eyes away from his laptop, his eyes landing on me instantly.

He sent me a panty dropping smile as he said coolly "of course."

I gulped as his eyes held mine, and as Chamille and I began to walk away, he called out my name once more, "Lilliana? Is there something you would like to say?" He asked in all his arrogance.

I felt like throttling him.

"Thank you, sir." I replied stiffly, hoping my words could silently kill him.

And with a nod of his handsome head, I walked away after Chamille.

He was starting to get under my skin big time.

"Permission to kill the client." I whispered to Chamille who giggled as she said "don't try and get me in trouble too."

"Seriously, is he allowed to do that?" I asked Chamille, my eyes flashing to where Mr. Cavalier sat in hope that he didn't hear me.

"Well, he does own half of the company, so maybe." Chamille shrugged.

"He what?! I though he was simply the top client?" I asked.

"That and the fact that he owns half of the company. The other belongs to his father." Chamille explained.

"So what? He's kind of my boss?" I questioned trying to get my facts straight.

"Mm hmm." Chamille nodded, then she laughed at my pale expression as she said "cheer up, I think you're in the clear, or else he would've told you to sit the trip out already. Anyway, focus. We're approaching lunch time, and I already told you what the meals consisted of, so we can just prepare his plate. Did you bring anything to eat?" She asked in an afterthought.

"Well I have a few granola bars and two bottles of Naked drinks. I'll be alright until we arrive in Rome." I assured and with a nod, Chamille continued her training.

Soon enough, we had a well arranged platter ready to go.

"Okay, so I'll carry the platter, and you carry the ice bucket and the wine bottle. Just, try to ignore his taunts, and hopefully this can go smoothly." Chamille explained, and I nodded to let her know that I was ready.

With an encouraging smile, we began making our way towards Mr. Cavalier.

I told myself to keep calm, and breathe. All I had to do was keep my eyes away from his, and everything would be fine.

Chamille placed the tray on the coffee table before him, and I placed the bucket and the bottle next to the tray.

Chamille poured his wine, and I simply stood back, hoping to avoid another mess.

Once he grabbed the cup from Chamille, he brought it to his lips and took a nice long sip, his eyes boring into mine the whole time.

I absentmindedly parted my lips, my tongue tasting over the slight part, as I found myself swallowing just as he did.

I suddenly felt really thirsty.

"Bon Appetit Mr. Cavalier." Chamille smiled kindly.

"Ah merci Chamille." He replied with a smile of his own, then he turned to me as if waiting for me to say something.

"Um, enjoy your meal sir." I stated meekly, and with a satisfied nod he dismissed us.

"Oh my God you're crushing on him." Chamille gasped when we reached our seats, and my eyes widened as I quickly denied "no. What? Pfft, I don't even know the guy."

"He's the tall, dark, handsome stranger you want to sweep you off your feet." She continued as she sat back down, and I slapped my palm against my forehead as I said "no. Chamille, no."

"Oh this is good. This is so good." She smiled as she studied me, and completely ignored my words.

"What part of no don't you understand?" I asked, my cheeks flushing. Oh I was crushing big time.

"I don't care what you say girlfriend. You're blushing like crazy. And I think he has a thing for you too." She stated, pushing her elbow into my side.

"What?! No- Chamille, I don't even know the guy." I think I said that before, but it wasn't getting through to her.

"So what? You guys already have the chemistry. I don't know why you're denying it." She shrugged, and I replied "uh well maybe because he's a client, not to mention my boss, and oh yeah, I don't know him." I pointed.

"The sarcasm? That a defense mechanism for you?" She replied, and I frowned covering my face with my book as I whined "leave me alone."

Chamille chuckled and shook her head then said "alright, alright, but just in case you wanted to know, he is single. No messy divorces, or kids in the picture."

"Chamille." I called out.

"That's all I wanted to add. I'm done." She raised her hands, and I sighed, looking away.

I looked at my watch and noticed that we had another six hours to go before reaching Rome, and for some reason my mind kept drifting back to Mr. Cavalier.

His eyes, his lips, his arrogance. Everything about him told me that he was out of my league, that I shouldn't even bother, but then again, his presence was like a magnet, drawing me in.

It felt strange that I found myself attracted to this man. A man I've only known for the past eight hours. Eight hours that were not as pleasant as I'd hope it would be.

I tried not to dwell much on the thought of Mr. Cavalier. There was no point in fantasizing anything could come between he and I. He was a Billionaire, practically my boss.

He carried himself with pride, attended fancy galas and ate foods that I couldn't even pronounce. I didn't fit into the picture of his lifestyle.

I'm sure he went for tall models, or gorgeous actresses who spoke his language. Money.

Sighing sadly, I went back to my book and immersed myself in the fictional world, where the girl did meet her handsome beau, and she would eventually live happy ever after.
