《My Best Friend's Brother》The Brooks Brothers

The basketball court in the park was the major hangout for the high school kids. It didn't take long after we arrived for Justin to make friends and jump into a pickup game. He was definitely the athletic one in the family.
Sarah had glued her eyes to Justin the entire time, "How.... how can someone be so hot? Why didn't you tell me that he existed?"
I roll my eyes, and take another look at Justin. He reminded me a lot of Liam.. he's tall and muscular and always wears a smirk as a smile.
"It never came up."
Jackson had made friends with a black haired girl standing over by the bleachers. Sarah babbled on about her future children with Justin and how she wanted to come to my house all the time from now on. A car horn blares across the park and we all turn to see who it is.
A black jeep pulls up to the edge of the court and Liam hops out onto the ground. He jogs over to the group of guys playing a pick up game and conversation with them. Sarah is still rambling on about how she plans to seduce Justin when I became fed up, "What happened to Jett?"
She shut up really quick and looked at me in shock, "What?"
I roll my eyes, "I asked what happened to Jett? You have your tongue down his throat not even 48 hours ago... and now you plan to seduce Justin Brooks?"
She look offended, "Are you calling me a slut?"
I shook my head and put my palm on my forehead, "That's not what I said. I just think you need to pick one and stick to it, you switch around a lot."
She grinned, "I like to keep my options open, it's more fun that way. Besides, Jett is just someone to have a little fun with... Justin is marriage material."
"You are seventeen. Marriage should be the last thing on your mind."
"Hey when you find the one, you find the one."

My eyes were tired of rolling. She could be so dramatic at times. Justin took a jump shot and Sarah jumped up cheering. He gave her a wink and ran down to the other side of the court.
"Oh my god, he knows it's meant to be."
I look around the court but don't see Liam. His Jeep was still parked on the edge so I knew he had to be close by. I hear some giggles under the bleachers and peek through the opening under me feet.
Found him.
I could see red hair and Liams hands running through it. He had found a girl within five minutes of arriving and was already making out with her. And on top of that, it wasn't Hannah. Sarah had a cup from the gas station sitting beside my foot. I slowly knocked it over with the heel of my shoe. Within seconds I heard screaming and a few cuss words. Liam walked out from behind the bleachers, coke dripping from his hair.
I couldn't hold back my laughter. Sarah noticed what had happened and joined me in laughing til we were in tears. Just seconds behind Liam, Charlotte walked out with coke dripping from her long red hair.
Oh shit.
The red hair belonged to Jetts ex girlfriend.
Jackson had now joined me and Sarah on the bleachers, "Damn, who is that?"
Charlotte realized that everyone was now staring at her, she ran off to the building on the hill.
Liam stared at the cup that was turned over and then my shoe that was only an inch or two away from it, "Hope you are proud of yourself."
He walked up the hill after Charlotte.
"Anyone going to tell me who that was?" Jackson was still interested in Charlotte.
"It's Sarah's boytoys ex girfriend."
Sarah gasped dramatically, "You could have worded that less slutty."
Jackson laughed, "So does everyone just swap partners around here?"
The pick up game had ended and Justin made his way over to our group. Sarah started drooling as he pulled his shirt over his back and sat it on the bleachers, "Y'all want to play?"

Jackson dramatically broke out into laughter, but realized Justin wasn't laughing, "Oh god, are you serious?"
He tossed the ball to Sarah, "Come on."
Sarah grabbed my hand and pulled me onto the court.
Justin put his arms around Sarah showing her how to shoot the ball. She wasn't paying any attention to his words, just his muscles. She mouthed "Oh my god" across the court at me. Jackson was on his phone in the corner showing no interest in the sport.
"Do you know how to shoot?" Liam appeared behind me and grabbed a basketball from the grass beside the court.
I nodded my head, "I played when I was a kid."
He half smiled, "That doesn't mean anything, Amelia," he tossed the ball to me, "Take a shot, all star."
I caught the ball and cocked my head to the side, "I don't work well under pressure."
He stepped back with his hands up in the air, "No pressure, just two kids having fun."
I smiled at his effort, looking over at Sarah and Justin she was completely occupied and not paying any attention to me. Jackson had found a group of girls in the parking lot.
I set my feet with my shoulders, bent my knees, put my elbow at the 90 degree angle I was taught as a kid.... and shot.
Nothing but net.
Liam looked impressed and started clapping, "I stand corrected."
I smiled, "I told you. I was once a baller." I tossed my hands up and shrugged.
Liam took a few dribbles and shot. We both went back and forth taking shots around the court. Finally we both sat down on the bleachers watching Sarah resort to granny shots.
"So, are you going to tell me who the twin Kens are?"
I giggled, "They aren't twins, but they are the Brooks brothers. That's Justin... and that's Jackson...my ex boyfriend."
He looked over his shoulder at me as he rested his elbows on his knees, "From North Carolina?"
I nodded as my answer.
"What are they doing here? Visiting?"
I shook my head side to side, "They bought the house across the street from me. They are moving here."
"That's kind of stalker like." He laughed.
I laughed too. Life had a way of playing jokes on me.
"Well with Sarah obsessed with that one, it may get her off my back about hanging out with you."
I let his words sink in as his eyes met mine, "Will your reputation get off your back?"
He smirked and nodded, "I can handle it."
I looked back over at Sarah who was now flirtatiously boxing Justin out, "I don't want to hurt her. There is this whole thing about rules.."
"What rules?"
"Rule number one of our friendship...I have to stay away from you."
He halfway frowned, "That's not really fair."
I shrugged, "You agree to stupid stuff when you have friends."
"Let me work on her... she will come around. You get to handle that," he pointed at Jackson who was now making his way back over to us, "I have a feeling we aren't going to be the best of friends."
I pushed his arm, "You probably didn't think that about me either."
He smiled and pushed me back, "I thought a lot of things when I first saw you."
I felt my cheeks blush.
"Can we go now?" Jackson was standing impatiently in front of the bleachers.
He yelled for Justin and Sarah and we all starting walking to the parking lot. Liam nodded bye and drove off in his Jeep. My phone started ringing, my moms picture flashed on my screen.
"I'm on my way home."
"Your dad has to leave early, I'm sorry honey."
My heart sank. I didn't even get to say goodbye.

The Mischievous Mrs. Maxfield
***The wrong girl is sometimes The Right One.*** Charlotte Samuels thought she'd be stuck waiting tables at Marlow's until all her debts are paid off-in about ten thousand years or so. She definitely didn't expect a marriage proposal from the arrogant Brandon Maxfield who was blackmailed by his father to make her his wife if he didn't want his least favorite cousin to run Maxfield Industries. Charlotte's instinct was to say HELL NO! but she's stumped by a few obstacles: 1.) His old man Martin Maxfield is dear to her heart and has been recently deteriorating in health. 2.) She gets a million dollars if she stays married to Brandon for a year. 3.) She would rather like the opportunity to teach the attractive but awfully rude man a few lessons he didn't think he needed from a 'teenage gold-digger' which was his term of endearment for her on their first date-er, business meeting. So what's a girl got to do, right? Sure, she's young and a little rough around the edges but there's something her would-be husband didn't know about her yet-she's nothing like he ever expected. Thrust into the glitzy world a standard-issue Mrs. Maxfield would fit perfectly and rule with impeccable social grace, Charlotte will either have to force herself into the mold or break free of it, risking what little she has left for everything that she can gain.*** Copyright © 2014 by Nina Tippett.
