《Primrose》Chapter 3

The alarm clock jolts me awake. I turn it off and get out of bed and head towards the bathroom. I do my business there and change for the day. My phone buzzes, letting me know someone has texted me. I pick it up and Jed's name is notified from the top of my screen.

On Sundays, May closes the shop early. Sundays are like her and Clyde's couple outing. They go to dinner and basically spend the rest of the day together which I think is super cute.

I can't pass up on that offer.

Kade is boxing tonight. Is this whole friend group full of boxing? Jed never really mentioned this to me. What if Jed boxes too? Now that would be surprising.

"So, Jed invited me to go out tonight. Can I go?" I ask May as I help her arrange the roses.

"Where to?" May asks.

"Out, he didn't tell me where exactly. But you and Clyde aren't going to be home tonight. So I think it'd be okay if I hang with Jed." I lie to her. I never really grew fond of lying to May, but in some cases, I need to. Like right now because if she finds out I'll be going to an underground boxing ring, she'll freak the flip out. "Please?" I add when she doesn't respond.

"Okay but this time you better call me."

"Thank you, May," I say as I place a kiss on her cheek.

By the time May and I reach home, it's almost 8. "Okay, we're headed out now. Be good Prim." Clyde says as he hugs me. Clyde and May have been married for almost 25 years and not once have they had a huge argument. Maybe about toilet seats and which way the toilet paper goes.

"Okay. Have fun." I say as I wave them off. I quickly grab my phone to see Jed has texted me that he is on his way to my house. I quickly grab my jacket and bag and wait on the stool. The doorbell rings and I rush to open it. "You're here--"

Huh? Where's Jed? As I open the door, I am met with those same pair of dark hazel green eyes staring back at me. "Heath? What are you doing here? I thought Jed was going to pick me up?"

"He forced me to come here. You ready?" He asks, taking a good look at me. His eyes going up and down taking me in. I shift uncontrollably under his gaze.

I nod my head and he starts walking out to his car, the same one he dropped me off last night. "You didn't have to pick me up. If Jed was busy I could've waited a bit longer."

"Get in." He orders.

"Okay," I say as I slide into the leather seat and close the door, not wanting to make an argument. The ride there is silent. Uncomfortably silent. I reach my hand to turn up the radio to which one of Ariana Grande's songs starts to play. Heath glares at me as I listen to the music and stare out the window.

"You don't talk much," I say breaking my gaze from outside and turning to face him. His grip on the wheel tightens.

"There's not much to talk about." That is all he says as he keeps his eyes trained on the road.

"Well, sure there is. You can talk about the weather. Or what you like and don't like. What your favorite color is. Mine is purple by the way--"

"Are you done?" He asks cutting me off.

"I was just trying to start a conversation. Don't be moody pants." I say crossing my arms while turning my head away from his. I hear him give out a sigh before we pull up to the underground parking space. "Do all of you box?" I ask as we both get out of his car and make our way to the double doors.

He doesn't respond as he pulls open the doors, allowing me to enter first before making our way to the backroom, the same one we were in when Heath won the fight the other day.

"Primmie, you made it," Jed says as he gives me a hug. "Thanks, Heath."

Heath narrows his eyes at Jed. "I thought you said you hurt your foot and couldn't drive? Why are you walking?"

Jed's eyes widen. "Ohhh! Right, yeah it still hurts. I better sit and ice this." Jed says. Everyone can tell he's lying. Jed isn't a very good liar or actor. That's probably why he never got the lead role in Beauty and the Beast back in middle school. Or even a role. He ended up being part of the stage crew.

"So Kade is boxing today?" I question as I take a seat next to Jed who nods in response. "I hope he wins," I say.

"Hope who wins?" Kade asks as he enters the room, wearing only his pants. I gawk at his chest which faint abs line on them.

"Prim was just saying how she hopes you get knocked out," Nash says playfully.

"Wow Prim, I didn't know you hated me so much," Kade says, clutching his heart.

"I didn't say that. I said I hope you win tonight." I say. Kade's smile returns as he pulls me in a hug. I freeze but then reluctantly wrap my arms around his muscled back.

"Thanks." He says and I thought I felt him place a kiss on the top of my head.

"Kade you're up," Heath says breaking our contact. "Beat the shit out of him okay?" He adds then bro hugs Kade and ruffles up his hair.

Kade and another guy hop into the ring. They face each other and the bell rings, signaling for them to start. Kade throws a punch to the guy's nose, making him stumble back. The guy recovers and throws a punch at Kade to which he dodges easily. He continues his pattern. Kade punches then dodges, punches then dodges. He repeats that until his opponent grows tired and slumps on the floor.

The referee raises Kade's arm, declaring that he's the winner. We make our way to the back and I run up to hug him. "You did great!" I say as I hug his sweaty form.

"That was nothing. That guy I just fought, newbie. It was an easy win." Kade says shrugging his shoulders.

"Well, we're gonna head back to my place later. Prim, you wanna come?" Nash asks. The only guy place I've ever been to was Jed's. And I didn't even bother going to his living room and I've known him for more than 5 years.

"Um, I don't know," I say nervously. "You guys aren't going to like, do drugs are you?" I ask.

Jed starts to laugh as Nash smiles. "Nah, we don't do that." He adds. Relief washes through me. May wouldn't be too keen on me going to a house with drugs in it.

"Okay, then I'll text May saying I'll be at Jed's," I say and pull out my phone to text her.

"Why Jed's?" Kade asks.

"She knows I'm out with Jed right now. And if I told her I would be with a bunch of guys who box, I think she'll end up in a hospital from a heart attack."

"Yeah, May's a fragile lady." Jed chimes in.

"She is not. She's just very careful with me." I say slapping Jed's chest.

"Alright, let me just grab my stuff and we'll head out," Kade says. We all gather our stuff and walk out of the underground match. Well, this will be an awkward yet interesting night.
