Fire.

It was everywhere. I could hardly breathe and I was coughing on the way down the stairs. My mommy was holding me in her arms, running down our stairs that were already withering away to ash and smoke as I looked behind her.

Everything around us just felt like it was getting hotter. It's unbearable. Did mommy feel the pain too? She always said both her and daddy were my protectors, my superheroes.

Do superheroes feel pain?

We finally made it out of the house and I lifted my head to look around me even though she told me to keep it down. I now know why she told me.

So much blood and screaming. Dead bodies were laying on the ground motionless. Some eyes are froze open with fear and those eyes are my pack members.

My family.

Mommy kept on running closer to the forest, trying to get away from the attack. The screams were starting to fade the further we got into the forest. Everything is happening so fast, I haven't even realized when I started crying. I could tell mommy was crying too. She was scared, just like I was. She put me inside a hollowed out tree trunk that I used for my hide- and- go seek spot. It was hidden behind many bushes and the tree limbs covered just enough to be hidden.

"It's okay baby, everything will be okay," she said, stroking my hair and cradling my face.

I looked into her eyes, really wanting to believe her. Why did all of this have to happen? Why couldn't everything be happy like it was in fairytales mommy and daddy read to me not even three hours ago?

Then, only one thing was running through my mind.

"Where's daddy?" I asked

"Daddy's fighting honey. He's the alpha he has to help protect everyone remember? Even you."

I nodded at her. Already hearing all of this before.

Mommy looked back towards the chaos we ran away from. The fire lighting up the sky the sounds of screaming became the only sound in the air, our pack members screams.

When will it end?

"Okay honey listen," mom said confidently, " Stay here. I'm going to go back there and help as much as I can. I'm going to come back with your father and everything will be alright do you understand?"

She was still looking around very frantically, making sure no one had found us.

"Mommy please don't leave me. I'm so scared." Tears we're running down my face as I tried to pull her to me to make her stay with me.

I wanted her to stay so bad.

"I know baby, I know I am too, but we have to be brave. Can you be brave for me babygirl?" She put her hands on my shoulders.

I nodded slowly wiping my tears peeking up at her through my eyelashes .

Mommy kissed my forehead and hugged me saying ," I love you so so much Kayla, don't you ever forget that."

"I love you too Mommy."

She looked at me again with such love in her eyes. Such determination. I watched as she turned around and ran back to the pack, already telling myself to be brave for her and that everything would be okay like she said.

A few hours have passed and mommy and daddy still haven't showed up yet. The stench of blood and fire was starting to fade away due to the current rain and it was starting to get colder.

I was starting to fall asleep when a man appeared with fading brown hair and a sadistic look on his face. He looked just like the villains in the stories my parents would tell me .

Where are my superheroes?

"Look what we got here boys," he motioned to the other men that were with him. They were looking in the areas around me. They were looking for survivors. Like me.

"The alphas beloved daughter," he looked down at me like I was some prized possession. "How would you like a new home?"

My superheroes didn't come fast enough.
