《Who Cares!!?》Chapter 5

‘So, you are the new test subject.’
‘Wait, what do you mean?’
Alex asked Dr. Watson, who was leading the operation.
The man looked like he was in his late twenties and gave off an intriguing vibe.
With his hair having an unusual white color for his age, eyes that resembled those of a snake and having pale skin. He certainly looked like an exotic but handsome man.
Alex didn’t know where he was, and the facility for the treatment was underneath the room he was in, where he signed the contract.
The facility was underneath the ground and was more substantial than a mansion. Everything there was highly advanced.
Somebody had spent his money very generously.
‘Well, there were other poor souls just like you, but unfortunately, they all died.’
‘On how many people have you performed the treatment before?’
‘Can’t say I remember exactly, but don’t worry, back then the chances were 70%-30%, but now after an incredible breakthrough the chances are about 60%-40%, isn’t it great?’
--Wait, what? I don’t understand.
Alex was a bit confused, then it suddenly hit him.
‘Wait, you mean that-’
‘Yes, there’s a 40% chance you’ll survive, and 60% you will not.’
He said with a devilish smile.
‘Now, nurse. Take subject number 55 to his room.’
‘Wait, 55!! You mean there were 54 people before me.’
‘Yes, and now I would love to chat, but we don’t have time to waste, now go.’
Alex was immediately having second thoughts about all of this.
‘Don’t worry, worst-case scenario, you will die, but I guarantee it will be a quick and painless death.’
Suddenly the 10 more months of life seem like an entire lifetime, and Alex was more than happy to live the rest of them.

But the situation said kept saying one thing “You’re now trapped,” basically Alex was now their new guinea pig and wasn’t fun being one.
Alex had a complete medical checkup on the first day and was given a full tour of the facility, since the procedure will start from the second day, by Dr. Watson himself.
He also explained what they were going to do to him too.
They were going to use electrical signals to activate Alex’s every cell and program the nucleus on self-healing.
Although it would take forever to activate every cell individually, they were just going to program the neurons of the brain to do it for them.
This would make the body’s recovery much more powerful, but that isn’t the only thing they were after.
To them, only 10% of the human DNA is active, the rest is sitting there doing nothing. They wanted to unlock the rest of the 90% and ultimately create a superhuman capable of performing inhuman feats.
The procedure can’t be imagined easily.
Every day Alex only woke up for three hours because it was necessary so that they could get his conscious brain to get used to the changes.
Alex wished he didn’t even get that time, he saw some pretty messed up things done to him.
One time, he was woken up, as usual, to get used to the changes. He had already seen his body completely open.
He had also seen his organs on a tray right in front of him. He had seen his stomach out, his liver, kidneys, but this time it was enough for him.
‘How are you feeling, Alex?’
Dr. Watson asked in a kind voice.
‘I feel like something’s missing.’
Alex was used to it by now, he wouldn’t be surprised even if they took his heart out. Alex was trying to guess what it was.

‘I feel something’s missing on my lower half.’
‘I see.’
Dr. Watson was busy writing the reports.
’Wait, did you take IT out!’
‘Take what out, Alex?’
Alex was starting to get furious. Dr. Watson came closer, and Alex suddenly grabbed him by the collar.
’YOU KNOW DAMN WELL WHAT I MEAN BY “IT,” NOW TELL ME DID YOU TAKE IT OUT!!!”
’Of-Of Course, we di-didn’t take THAT out, it’s probably just your ima-imagination’
Watson was feeling threatened.
’THEN WHY DON’T I FEEL IT, I KNOW LET’S CHECK AND SEE’
‘The patient is mentally unstable, tranquilize him immediately.’
Four men rushed into restraint Alex in the surgery room, who was putting up a tough fight’.
’WATSON!! I KNOW YOU TOOK IT OUT’
After that, Alex was always given a mild sedate before they woke him up.
The procedure was supposed to be one month long, but for Alex, it felt like years.
In the middle of the third week, they took a sample of Alex’s genetic blueprint to see how far his body had developed, and to their surprise, it had developed further than they had expected, rather it was complete.
‘It’s hard to believe he made it. The test reports are unbelievable.’
The other doctors who were in the project discussed among themselves.
‘His body has progressed further than we estimated, rather the treatment has been completed.’
‘Yes, why don’t we celebrate to mark this day, what do you say, Watson?’
‘Of course, we should. We had built the banquet hall just for this occasion.’
‘Then to tonight, we shall celebrate.’
Alex was still unconscious. All of the doctors went to their rooms except for Dr. Watson.
‘Now then, the real test shall begin.’
Watson walked out of the room to his office and grabbed his briefcase.
‘Going somewhere?’
He heard a soft voice and turned around. It was Dr. Alisa, who had made a considerable amount of contribution to the project.
’Ah, yes I was just going outside to give the reports to someone to deliver it to Him’
‘I see.’
‘Don’t worry, I’ll be on time for the party.’
‘Okay’
Dr. Watson was humming a tune as he walked outside.
As soon as he arrived at the final staircase, he took out a remote from his briefcase and pressed it and then continued to go up the stairs.
As he took the last step, he heard a loud explosion, and the screams of people followed. He listened to the sounds of people screaming and the alarms going off, but he calmly walked out of the facility without a change in his facial expression.
Soon the entire facility was engulfed in flames, killing everyone and destroying everything

Trying to deal with these conflicting emotions, Sophia works hard to come to terms with the new her while doing her best in the new world. Exploring places, learning magic, finally finding friends again, and possibly more. Unfortunately, she learns this world's magic from a highly overpowered, easygoing, and somewhat unreliable teacher. RED
Valley City. Up until around twenty years ago, it had been a nowhere place. Just a bunch of towns with no real reputation. Now, though, it's known for its progression in medical science. The Medical Technologies Company. It seemed to suddenly appear out of nowhere in the middle of what's now called City Center. Once just a manufacturer and developer of medical equipment, it eventually started to dabble in medical research. Before anyone even knew it, they were the leading research entities, with five seperate buildings in Valley City alone, all towering above everything else in the area. Some say they even swayed the local government into combining the old towns into one city and popularized prosthetic limbs as fashion themselves, but that's just gossip. Matthew Vega. A 25-year-old college dropout, tricked by MediTech into being experimented on under the pretense of participating in a clinical trial for rent money. After being broken out of their facility nearly a year after having her limbs replaced, then having her liberator captured, she seeks a way to dismantle the company or save the one she cares about. NOTE: Currently I am working on a rewrite. I will post a new chapter once that is ready, listed as V2CH-001. I hope you look forward to it.
