《Autumn Winds and Crimson Waters》How the Oriental got its Wings
Advertisement
The Orientals were dragons, but they were unlike other dragons in that they were kind and caring. Prefering to help the weak and needy, they hoarded no treasure, breathed no fire, and kidnapped no princesses.
They had no wings - instead, they flew through the sky on pure magic alone. For they were blessed by the Seraph Ameriel and each of them was born with exceptional magical powers. When they flew, they were the most graceful of all the creatures of air.
The Orientals are children of Ameriel and they loved the Seraph. In turn, the Seraph loved them back. Ameriel healed the sick and blessed the younglings, so that they grew up strong and healthy.
Ameriel taught the Orientals to be helping and good natured. Those among them who were disadvantaged were supported by all the others of their species, and no Oriental children grew up lonely. In this way, they formed a tight-knit community, supporting and sharing with each other.
Yet as the days came and went, the Seraph Ameriel grew distant. No longer did they respond to pleas, nor did they bless the younglings, or heal the sick. Eventually, the Seraph looked away and disappeared altogether.
Centuries passed. As the world changed around them, the Orientals strayed further and further away from the Seraph's teachings and were no longer what they once were.
One day, a new Oriental was born. He was small and weak and skinny, and grew slower than the other younglings. He was named Wynd, in hopes that he would be able to fly as gracefully as the autumn winds.
However, they soon discovered something. Wynd had weak magic, so weak that he would never be able to fly.
Wynd grew up bullied and shunned by the other Orientals, and grew sadder each day as he watched the other younglings all learn to soar through the air, as elegant as the dancing faeries. So it was one day, after realizing that he would never belong, that he left the other Orientals and went away.

He journeyed for years, trudging and climbing on the ground. He gazed at the birds in the sky, and cursed many times as he fell off obstacles that others could have soared over. Finally, after many years, Wynd came across a figure atop a cliff.
Wynd could not discern the gender of the figure, but they emitted an aura so pure that he could not bear to stand close to them. The figure had three pairs of white wings, so large and beautiful that they appeared to be shining. The smallest pair sprouted from the shoulders and covered their face, while the second sprouted from the waist and covered the legs. The last, and largest pair, were folded neatly on their back, the white feathers almost touching the ground.
"Are you the Seraph Ameriel?" asked Wynd, flicking his tail nervously.
The figure nodded, slowly.
"You are an Oriental." said Ameriel. "Yet I sense not your magic."
"I don't have it" Wynd replied. "I was born weak."
And Ameriel realised what had become of their children in their absence. The once kind Orientals had grew self centred and uncaring, whereas they once helped the weak and needy. Without Ameriel to bless the younglings, each generation grew up weaker than the last. Without Ameriel, Wynd was born without magic.
The Seraph was filled with remorse. They gazed at the dragon before them, who had a spirit made for the air but will never be able to fly.
So Ameriel lifted their hands and took the smallest pair of wings, those that had covered their face and turned them away from their children. Ameriel pulled them out, so that they will no longer look away at those in trouble, and gave them to Wynd.
"For you who was born for the air yet never flew, take them."

And Wynd took them. From his back sprung two feathered wings - white, pure, strong, just like those of the Seraph's.
He leapt into the air, flapping his new wings, and flew even more gracefully than the strongest and most magical of the Orientals.
"I will look away no longer" said the Seraph as their yellow eyes observed the overjoyed Oriental in the sky.
And thus, the Seraph Ameriel returned, and blessed the younglings born weak and without magic, so with their new wings, they will still be able to soar the skies.
And that was how some Oriental dragons came to be born with wings.

Delve
Summary – Level 1: Delve is an isekai litrpg that follows an average guy who just happened to wake up in a forest one day. He wasn’t summoned to defeat the demon lord or to save the world or anything like that, at least as far as he can tell. The only creature there to greet him was a regular old squirrel. Soon enough, he meets other people, only to discover that he can’t speak the language, and that not everybody immediately trusts random pajama-wearing strangers they met in the middle of the wilderness. Things generally go downhill from there, at least until the blue boxes start appearing. Delve is a story about finding your way in a new, strange, and dangerous world. It’s about avoiding death, figuring out what the heck is going on, and trying to make some friends along the way. It’s not about getting home, so much as finding a new one. Did I mention that there will be math? Summary – Level 2: Okay, but what are you in for, really? Well, this story is supposed to be realistic, or at least, as realistic as a fantasy litrpg can be. The main character doesn’t instantly become an all-powerful god and murder-hobo his way across the universe. Delve is, at its heart, a progression fantasy, but that progression is meant to feel earned. The numbers in this story actually mean something. Everything is calculated, and if you find a rounding error, I expect you to tell me about it. That said, if math isn’t your cup of tea, there is plenty more that the story has to offer. Characters are meant to feel real, and progression isn’t only about personal power; it’s also about allies, connections, and above all, knowledge. Figuring out how the system works is a significant theme. ... What, you want more details? Okay, fine, but this is going to get a bit spoiler-y. Are you sure? Yes! Really sure? I mean, this summary is practically half as long as the first chap– Now! Okay, okay! The main character becomes a magic user, but he takes a route that is not very popular in adventurer culture, namely that of a support. There is a full magic system with various spells, skills, and abilities, but our MC decides that aura magic is the way to go, and that the only stat worth investing in is mana regeneration. Most people at the Adventurer’s Guild think that this makes him a bit of a dumbass, but he’s playing the long game. We’ll see how that works out for him, won’t we? Because of his build, the MC levels up fast, at least compared to normal people. There are no cheats, though, and he is limited in other ways. There are some clear and pretty obvious downsides to his build. That’s what makes it fun, no? Morals? Our MC has them. Again, we’ll see how that works out for him. Realism, remember? Would you be okay with killing someone and looting their body? I sure hope not. POV? The focus is on the main character, but there will be occasional varying perspectives from people around him, or involved in the events related to the main plot. It isn’t going to jump all over the place. Tech is standard medieval stasis. No smartphones, but the MC does have a technical background. Computers and their programming might be involved. There might even be a bit of uplifting down the road, who knows? Anyway, it isn’t the focus. He isn’t going to invent the gun in chapter 1 and change the face of warfare. Romance is not a major focus. Friendships are more the name of the game, though there will be some characters in romantic relationships. There is exploration, though not as much of the geographical nature as you might expect. It is more about exploration of the system and the culture. The pace is slow and detailed, sometimes verging on slice-of-life. The action is meant to be realistic and grounded in the numbers, and it is intended to have meaning beyond simply punching things until they stop moving. The general tone of the story is grey, and some parts can get quite dark. People die. Sometimes, people with names, but not anywhere near GoT level. There is plenty of light, too, though, to balance the darkness. The world is dangerous, but overcoming that danger is why we’re all here, isn’t it? Anyway, if you’ve made it this far through the summary, you clearly like words. I hope you enjoy the story! Cover by Miha Brumec Summary Updated: 2020-06-14

City of Champions Online

She's tried other VRMMORPGs, but they've all been fantasy-based, with a couple sci-fi games thrown in. But she wants something more, something Super. Superhero VRMMOs have had a... subpar reception in the past, in part due to the fact that the nature of most MMOs makes for fairly unheroic tales. But then she heard about City of Champions Online. For the first time, a developer partnered with a tabletop RPG maker to use their system to create a VRMMORPG, and it was one of the systems designed to be used with superhero games!
