《Playtime》Chapter Twenty Two

I held onto Savanna tightly, afraid to let go of her. The low chuckle of the devil rang through the the air like chiming bells. I could feel Savanna's body tremble out of the fear that penetrated her body. I look at the guys as the car dives toward the solid earth below. The impact brought a sharp pain throughout my body, causing my grip to release. I felt Savanna's weight shift before her cries broke the eerie silence. The game was coming to an end.
"I wanna go home," she chanted, "I don't want this life." But I knew she didn't have a choice. It was a life chosen for her way before she was born. A destiny that was meant to change the course of history. She was going to die either way.
Peering out of the beat down and broken vehicle, I could see the fog getting thicker. The sun had gone down and the now peering moon hovered above. This was it. The night I had to choose. kill, or be Killed. Prying the door open, I hurried out. The cold air hit my face.
'what are you doing?' the voice questioned in my head. It made me stop abruptly and glance at the fallen angel that was now weeping. I felt the urge to do it. To put her out of her misery and admit everything. I wanted to help her, but that's when the whole plan came to mind.
The redemption. The savoring taste of satisfaction that I completed what I had to do. That's when the voice of my mother came to mind. The heart stopping moment when I realized I had made a mistake.
flashback
'Don't worry, baby." she said as I watched her with big wondering eyes. "someday, you will do great things." Her warm touch came in contact with my face, leaving tears in my eyes. I had only seconds to react and save her, and even then, I had no idea what I was doing. I was seventeen and desperate to not be alone.

Turning to the devil, I had uttered the words that I since regretted. "Take me instead." I knew it was a tempting offer. The devil usually got his way, whether it was following the rules or not. He got his way. He chuckled.
"you'll work for me?" he had questioned as if uncertain that I would follow through. I nod and look him in the eye.
"anything you want." I say confidently.
End of flashback
It was the day that I regretted saying those words. I still did, but I pretended that I didn't care. Whether it was a game or not, I was sick of participating. Grabbing Savanna's arm and pulled her along the road. Tightening my grip, I held onto her with my life and grabbed the one object that held everything. A round, turquoise moonstone. The smooth surface was cold at the touch, not that I knew the difference.
Glancing at my friends, I could tell they knew what I was thinking.
"you guys ready?" I questioned gazing around. After a few yes', I begin to rub the stone. It began to glow and vibrate rapidly in my hand.
Certain demons can have certain abilities based off of the victims they kill. I had a variety since I was the main killer.
Giving Savanna a reassuring smile, I throw the gem on the ground. A bloodcurdling shatter sound echoed through the Halloween air. I could hear the agonizing screams of the previous victims as the object dissolved.
A wave of energy formed around us, creating an unbearable pain surge through our bodies, before sending a bright beam of light into the pitch black sky. I felt my energy fade as the energy got stronger and the light got brighter.
"What's going on?" Savanna asked looking at us. I touch her face, feeling a single tear slip from my eye. "Yoongi?" Her grip tightened and her voice cracked as if trying not to cry. Desperation and fear hit her face.

"Savanna..." I say feeling my life slip through my fingers. "Don't cry. Not over me. Not after all I put you through." I run my fingers down her neck, taking the mark off of her neck. Her wings slowly fade back to white and her dark eyes turned back to their hazel look. My marking, my property was gone.
She shakes her head, not wanting to believe it; not wanting to let go. She grabbed onto my arm tighter and came closer to me. We were inches apart, and my heart began to pound in my chest at an unreasonable rate.
"I love you, Yoongi..." she whispers loud enough for me to hear. "you can't leave me." I shake my head and pull away.
"It's going to be over," I say trying to comfort her. "the pain will go away." I look to see my friends nodding before their souls disappeared into the sky. I glance at Savanna one last time before pulling her into a kiss. Not a fake one. A real one. One with passion, and true feelings.
I held onto her as if my life depended on it. She wrapped her arms around my neck, putting her feelings into the kiss. The kiss that told her...I loved her, but I couldn't have her. Pulling back, I let my body be carried away. I let my soul get dragged into the underworld to the devil.
"Yoongi..." was the last thing I heard before the world went black.

Ode to Fallen Angels
Jericho, the land of humanity, squirms in pain. Magic has been forbidden for so long in this so called "Age of Silence", that all Arcane knowledge has been presumed lost and irrecoverable, and the echoes of God's Will grow fainter with every passing year. The sight of Demihuman caravans is less frequent every day, as the likes of orcs and elves have learned to no longer beg for help from those who despise them. Clearly, they can expect more from the voracious wild lands than from humankind. Many have succumbed to despair, some driven mad by their fruitless efforts to bring back a Golden Age that they only ever read about in books. And in the middle of it all, in an old chapel lost in the Eastern lands, young Gabrielle lives in complete ignorance. She is another orphan living under the mercy of the Church of the Saints; one bearing the mark of evil in her red hair, the telltale sign of a Witch. In an Age of the Silent, the Prejudiced, and the Hateful, she clings to a single hope: that one day, be it in life or maybe after it all ends, she may find herself forgiven of her sin. The sin of being born.
