Black boots walked across the area in front of Kieren. He didn’t move an inch under the darkness as he waited for them to move past the area where he was hiding. When he was sure they gone past him he slipped out from his hiding place and slipped into a manhole.
The sewer system was very extensive, it ran through every building in the city so it was useful to get around when he didn’t want to be detected. The only reason why others didn’t use the sewers was because each entrance was protected by the Moonfury Corp in collaboration with the water and electricity companies. The only possible person who could get through the security unscathed was Kieren.
(Again. I REALLY wish I didn’t have to use this method. Aaron’s intel better be worth it, if it’s not then he’s going to wake up in the middle of the Arctic circle in a Thundercat costume!)
He trudged onward while breathing through his mouth to try to reduce the stink from reaching his olfactory receptors. The first thing he did when he got home was to take a sorely needed shower. The stink was horrendous.
“Whew! That felt great!”
Once in his room he spread himself out onto the bed. There was nothing more relaxing than laying a tired body in his bed after a warm shower.
(I’ll send the data I gathered to Aaron tomorrow. I know part of the reason why he set up this misson was to give me a change of pace because he’s worried I’ll brood if I stayed home all day. I’m grateful for that but I’m still frustrated that I had to endure a car spin and crawl through the sewers for a few hours.)
After venting for a bit Kieren sat up with a resolute look on his face. He got to his laptop and before he started the first thing he did was check the security to ensure that nobody tampered with it. Nothing came up, or rather nobody had the ability to do so even if they wanted to. Kieren encrypted his devices with his very own security software. The same one his grandmother and himself developed together when he was first learning the art; over time they would improve and update the program so it even exceeded the one used in the Moonfury Corp. After all, they couldn’t reveal their strongest hand to the public, just like all powerful and innovative people the best was kept on hand. Despite that, he never let down his guard when it came to concealing his activities and movements.

“Hmm?”
The scan showed signs of attempted infiltration. The infiltrator tried to cover his tracks and to be honest the attempt was pretty good. Whoever it was managed to get almost halfway past his security but for some reason it looks like they were forced to stop and leave in a hurry. The coverup was sloppy yet somehow still thorough.
“How ironic, while I was hacking into his computer he sent someone to try to hack into mine. And by the looks of it he either has a lot more money and power than Aaron and I realized or someone with a decent amount of skill owes Mr.Grim a favor. Well isn’t this interesting.”
If Aaron or the Huoinu siblings saw Kieren’s expression at the moment they wouldn’t hesitate to call him a conniving fox. The way the expression suited him so well.
Spotting the thumb drive laying next to him, he took a second to contemplate before locking it into the port, gaining access to Mr.Grim’s life. Sorting out the useless information, he shifted through the copious amount of data until he dragged out what he was looking for. Blocking out the useless information he searched through Grim’s underground payroll.
“Bingo.”
A name and account number was highlighted before Kieren’s eyes. Taking a minute to commit the information Kieren got ready to go to bed.

An Unbound Soul
When Peter suffers a too-close encounter with a truck, he finds himself reborn in another world. At first glance it is a perfect fantasy land. There's magic to play with, elves singing in the forest and a hyperactive catgirl neighbour. There's even a System that lets him earn skills and level up. But it isn't long before he notices that the world is far too perfect. Just why is everyone so nice? Can Peter accept the alien morality of this world's self-proclaimed protector, or will he seek to overthrow her? Set after the events of A Lonely Dungeon, a few hundred years after the rebirth of civilization, this is a story about an earthling falling into Erryn's new world and the subsequent struggles of himself and Erryn to understand each other. It's a slow paced slice of life, and while there are pieces of action, don't expect any immediate grand conflict between Erryn and Peter. Published here, scribblehub and amazon. Two new chapters a week on Tuesdays and Fridays.

Steps of the Immortal Tree
Evan stood on a hill, staring calmly at the gate of his former clan. A crowd waited behind him, some eyeing the clan in an unresigned manner, others looking at their spiritual support. Some of the young children shivered at the gnawing cold. Wind howled in his ears, seemingly deploring his fate. A silvery cloud drifted over the mountains surrounding the compound. The roar of a river could be heard from underneath its frozen surface. He had reincarnated many years ago. Hailed as a prodigy from his youngest age, Evan had seemingly tread on a path to invincibility. He had gotten married with his childhood sweetheart and had cultivated with a group of friends, forming a considerable power of his own. Yet now, here he was, devoid of any path to move forward, with his energy locus destroyed. His wife was dead and his branch had been kicked out of the clan. He looked at his progeny that had been entrusted to him. The baby seemed content in his father’s strong arms, too young to understand anything but the warmth of the father’s beating heart. Signaling to the people behind him, he turned around and the procession gradually disappeared in the distance, as the sun gradually set and the stars acted as a guide. --- Author-san here. I originally started this novel on another account, but lost the login information for it, so I'll be restarting this story here. Thanks for understanding! This is my first fiction, so I appreciate any and all feedback! (^^) The cover picture is by Yuji Himukai (as pointed out by Truis). I found it on the internet. Please contact me if you want to have it taken down. If anyone is interested in drawing a cover, send it to me. I'll put it up if I feel it represents the book well, with your name in the credits.
