《The World of The Tower》Deeper

Preparing breakfast and taking a morning shower was nothing but a pleasure in the clean and brand new apartment. The other two tenants were nowhere to be seen yet and Arath didn't really care about them. They packed their equipment, prepared weapons and mentally braced themselves for another hard day. Carl and Beniamin were already waiting for them at the entrance to the Tower but their faces looked grim. Shops on the main street were even busier than usually and vendors run from one stall to another so fast no one would be surprised if they left their legs behind. Excitement and anxiety filled the air and some couldn't hold back their emotions and exploded destroying everything around.

"What's going on?" Arath asked Ben.

"Remember how we wanted to be rich?" He answered with a question.

"Yeah, I bought a new flat and live like a prince. Is something wrong?"

"Everything is wrong!" Carl exclaimed. "They found even more crystals!"

"Who?" Clara got curious.

" 'Who didn't?' is a better question. We were incredibly lucky to be first to find a crystal deposit, but right now many other groups have found their own caves just like ours. Prices of crystals have fallen drastically, luckily the first batch was worth something at least." The man explained.

"Are you kidding me?" Arath raised his hands towards the non-existent sky and sighed. "Let's get going, we have to find another way to earn money."

Their plan for that day was to instead of going left, turn right this time. It was going to be much more dangerous, at least according to the notebook, but Cave Spiders' web was very precious because of it's flexibility. Over ten groups were preparing to venture into the caves, among which some known and respected mercenaries could be found. Quick and easy money was something that appealed to almost everyone, even if the prices weren't high now, they would rise at some point in the future. Unnoticed, the scouts entered the right corridor and stepped into the darkness of the Tower. No matter how bright a Light Crystal was, the darkness always seemed to hold it's ground and barely allowed light to exist.

The corridors created a labirynth so large that walking from one side to the other could easily take a whole day. No matter where Arath looked walls were painted red with blood and pieces of bodies, both human's and spider's, were scattered around. Ben took the lead and tried to find traces of monsters but the task proved to be incredibly ardous as spiders' legs were very thin. Only after about fifteen minutes did they finally stumble upon a group of enemies, five spiders the size of a dog were currently devouring a young blestol. The scene was so disgusting that Carl almost puked but having experienced a similar situation two days ago he managed to hold back the urge.

"No time to waste they probably already know we are here. Get them!" Arath shouted, pulled out his old sword and stabbed the monster.

The rest followed and started stabbing the spiders in their torsos or slashing at their hideous legs. Blood flowed and slowly created a red river at the feet of the four Scouts. The job was quickly finished and the team spared no time and started to collect anything that had some value on the market. Spider thread, if handled by a professional, could be the perfect material for creating equipment thanks to it's flexibility and durability. Arath packed as much of it as possible in a very careful manner trying not to tear anything and once he was done the group set off again. The deeper they went the narrower and darker their surroundings became, to the point where only Arath's ability allowed them to move forward safely avoiding ambushes and dangerous chasms. They defeated four more groups of Cave Spiders and were walking into a bigger cavern when suddenly Arath saw two enormous spiders feeding on a still breathing human. The person couldn't move and was covered in a white cocoon, he was pale and looked like death itself but a faint sound of breathing could still be heard. When Arath looked around he noticed two more cocoons hanging from the ceiling. The vision dissapeared as quickly as it arrived and the man was left flabbergasted and perplexed.

'What the hell?' He had no idea what just happened. 'Was it my ability or just a hallucination? If I remember well the same thing happened to me in the Awakening Hall.'

"Guys, I think there are bigger beasts in here, be careful." He decided to say.

Arath with Ben took the lead and examined the area. Fresh bones and blood covered the floor of the room and a heavy atmosphere made even breathing hard.

"I think we should leave." Carl whispered.

"Not until we know what happened." Ben shook his head.

"I think we know what happened." Clara pointed her spear at the wall in front of them.

Ben held out the crystal and shed some light ahead. Over ten white cocoons were laying motionless, next to them few swords and other weapons were sticking out of some sticky substance. Behind it, a large corridor was leading to a spacious room with two more cocoons inside. But the thing that drew their attention were giant white spiders with no eyes on their body, they were in the middle of the process of devouring a poor human. Life had already left him but a painful grimace on his face was still there.

"Attacking head on is not a good option, their venom must be strong if so many people are here with no chance to move. One bite and you are done for, if we want to take these guys on we need to keep our distance." Arath was trying to think of a plan. "I could probably go in there and focus them on myself but we still lack any way to attack."

"Let's go back, it's too much for us." Carl had no intention to fight a lost battle.

"Let's at least try to take the unconcious with us. I can't leave them for a certain death." Ben declared and went on to take as many people as possible.

"No, stop!" Clara exclaimed but it was too late.

The moment he got close to the bodies the spiders suddenly turned around and stopped eating.

"You just walked into their trap! They can sense even the slightest vibration in their web!" She remembered their previous encounters with such monsters. The urge to kill the boy with her own hands arose in her head.
