《Grasping for the Heavens》Chapter Thirteen
Advertisement
Forcing the mana to repair my broken arm and scythe, I leap into the air as three vampires dive to meet me.
Forcing my unbroken arm to smack the first one down to the ground, I impale the second vampire, before giving the third one a kick to the neck.
As I fall, I crush the vampire that I impaled as I land. Leaping immediately to the right I dodge a diving vampire and leap onto the roof of a two story building. On the roof, I’m met with a pair of vampires who leap for my throat. Dodging the first vampire, the second one leaps onto my neck and grabs onto my right arm, my broken one.
Giving it a pull I cry out. It doesn’t hurt, but if I lose an arm it’ll mean big trouble. Stabbing the blades that I have on my left arm, I manage to shake the vampire off before another vampire leaps onto my back again.
And then a whole pile of vampires are on my, tearing down at my left arm, and they begin to pull at both of my scythes.
“By my will- urg” I shout as a vampire jabs their hand down my mouth, and grabs at my neck from the inside.
Giving a hard bite down, I separate the vampire from his arm, and convert the separated arm into mana.
“By my will, set my enemies aflame!” I shout. Shrugging free of the terrified vampires I quickly cut the connection to my spell.
I need to reserve mana for repairing the damage.
I’ve lost my right arm, and lost a scythe.
Forcing the mana to appear, a bright light begins to appear where my arm used to be, and slowly begins to solidify into my arm before a vampire that’s recovered leaps onto my back again. This time I use my remaining scythe to stab through and throw him away.
My tanks are still fully operational, good. Taking a leap into the air again I land on a building further north of the town and turn back in time to see the last of the vampires leap into a river getting the fire off.
Vampires and their damn regeneration abilities.
Moments later I vampire jumps out of the water sniffing the air and then immediately turning to face me.

Do I even have a scent, maybe the smell of metal?
My arm has been fully recovered, but I’ve forgone the skin because that’ll take more mana and I don’t think I’ll need to hide anyways.
It’s 5:00. Half an hour has passed. Time sure does fly when you’re busy.
Taking another leap into the air, I land on a vampire that’s turned into the air, only for me to destroy its head, and I leap into their again, while taking a glance down.
It’s head has regenerated.
What the hell man, this isn’t even fair.
As I’m in midair, 4 vampires leap into the air with their wings unfurled and my two scythes reach out to meet the two behind me, impaling them where their heart should be, as I drive my hands into the vampires in front of me.
Smashing the two vampires in my hands into the ground, I take the two vampires on my scythes and impale them into the house behind me.
Is this whole Dukedom filled with vampires? Maybe the people are government experiments, all the more reason to take them down.
After withdrawing my scythes I leap forwards just as an explosion sounds behind me, pushing me forwards and crashing into another house.
As I crash through the walls of the building I smash through this house into another, before stopping in the fifth house in a row.
That would normally kill a human, no wait, these aren’t normal humans, they might survive.
Anything broken… Yup, both of my scythes, and my air tank is pretty much gone, as well as half my body.
Great, what’s the time? 5:15. One hour and 15 minutes huh.
Forcing the mana that I just regenerated to fix my tanks and scythes I use my arms to pull me towards a wall.
Not having any legs is hard, but not painful, I don’t have nerves for a reason.
Leaning against the wall, my vision begins to dim as I note the first rays of the sun beginning to appear. I thought sunrise… was…….. At…. 6……… 30…...
“Oh what have we done?!” I hear a voice shout in the distance.
“There’s a person over here, find a doctor!”
“He isn’t human!”
Are the last things I hear before I fall to sleep.

=====================================================================
Opening my eyes, the first thing I notice is a group of people surrounding my bed. I note a couple of familiar faces in the group.
They’re familiar because they were the ones who got the closest while trying to dismantle me, I guess that’s what it means for power in numbers?
I was obviously more powerful, but they had way more people than little old me.
“He’s awake!”
“He’s awake? He’s awake!”
“Go call the elder!” says a vampire as the one closest to the door rushes out into the sunlight only to return moments later with a vampire that doesn’t look much older than the vampire that brought her here.
The Elder is a lady that likes as though she’s in her mid twenties and is well proportioned.
That’s all you need to know.
“We’re awfully sorry for the trouble we’ve brought you” she says while bowing down.
“That’s an understatement”
“We know, but we’ll do whatever it takes to repay for all that we’ve done”
“Well… Why did you attack me in the first place?”
“That was… That was because of the full moon while the spikes in mana were at it’s highest, the appearance of the moon… Enhanced the spikes, causing us to go berserk” The Elder says while looking down at the ground.
“I see… So it was due to nature… Since you guys owe me… What about being my servants for life?” If I can get these guys to serve me, bringing this Dukedom down won’t be a problem.
“For life?”
“That’s right, you’ll follow my orders for life, but you guys can have vacations, I suppose”
“I will need to discuss this with my brethren”
“No problem” I say while nodding towards the door.
Moving out of the room, the elder signals to the rest of the vampires and they all file out of the room one by one.
Time to see what I repaired before losing conscience.
It seems I repaired everything at the cost of fainting, not bad really, the only problem being that if I pull this off during combat, I wouldn’t be able to continue to fight.
The Elder returns and kneels down, “We shall serve the lord for life”
“””””””””We shall serve the lord for life“”””””””” says the vampires that enter after her.
“Wonderful, our first step will be to topple this Dukedom”
“””””””””Understood!“””””””””
See, I told you a vampire army would be great.
“I don’t know what your name is, Elder”
“My name is Maria” she says as she bows down.
“Good, Maria, from henceforth you’ll be my right hand woman, also, if another incident like before occurs, is there anyway to prevent what happened before?”
“These mana spikes aren’t common in the first place, so it shouldn’t be a problem for your lifetime”
“I think you forgot the fact that I’m not even human”
Staring at me with wide eyes I think she’s finally realised that this whole group of vampires will be serving me until the end of time. Wonderful.
“Uh, well I think our first step should be to sabotage the ports along the coast of this Dukedom, after doing so, they’ll have less money to support an army, which will allow us to bring the Dukedom down faster.”
“It’s a good plan” I’m surprised she didn’t ask why I wanted the Dukedom gone. “Oh yeah, that explosion that took me out, who did that?”
“I did” she says while blushing and looking to the side.
“That’s great!” I say while grabbing her shoulders. “We can use your magic! Who else can use magic?”
“We, we all can” she says with a little hesitation.
This is great! A bunch of unkillable physically strong magicians! What better servant did I need.
“Good job Maria!” I say while patting her head like a cat.
“Eh? Ah, yes…”
“But the problem still remains, what are we to do about the spikes, of course, I could just become stronger, then it wouldn’t be a problem, but then I will still have to deal with you all all night”
“I, I don’t think there is a solution, I’m sorry, my lord”
“Not a problem, and could you not use ‘my lord’? I’m not used to it”
“Then is young master fine?”
“Yes”
“Understood, Young Master”
Author’s Note: Hm… There seems to be a migration in the future in RRL, anyways, it won’t be a problem as I have all my chapters stores on google doc, the only problem is, that I do my editing on RRL, so those are completely rough around the edges… -_-
