Chapter 2
When I woke up, my body felt drained of all energy. I set up in bed, but my muscles ached all over forcing me back down. Suddenly I could feel a strong surge of magical power heading in my direction, so I put up a barrier.
BOOOOOOOM!!!!
The wall next to me exploded and I was sent flying straight through the window next to me. The blast destroyed my barrier, and glass stabbed into me causing me to scream.
Falon:"AAAAAAAAAAHHH!!"
I could see giant balls of fire raining down on the orphanage destroying every thing they touched.
Falon:"what the hell is happening!"
I used all of my strength to stand, and began to pull out pieces of glass from my abdomen. I used magic to heal the wounds, but I new unless I got all the glass out of the wounds they wouldn't be able to heal properly. I had no time to pull every piece out besides I new this body could deal with this level of injury.
Tessa:"Falon run we're being attacked by demons!"
Tessa came running out of the building we used for meals with a few children behind her. When I started to move towards her a fire ball came into sight and landed between the two of us sending everyone flying back.
Falon:"damn! why the hell are demons attacking this orphanage."
I quickly got up and ran over to Tessa and the kids. When I saw them I knew that the only one not dead was Tessa, but she was unconscious.
Falon:"her natural healing ability must have saved her."
I decided to create a hole in the ground using earth magic, and hide her in it until I could come back for her. After I covered the hole I created a few holes so she wouldn't run out of oxygen.

Falon:" only three kids are dead for sure I better find the others and get out of here. I hope there still alive."
I started to head towards the sleeping quarters since it is still early. I assumed most of the kids were still asleep when the attack started. I heard a loud sound and turned my head towards the mess hall where Tessa and the kids came from. The door was smashed into pieces, and I could see someone from the demon race standing there.
He was six foot seven with blood red skin, three horns sticking out from his head and a long thin tail. He had a silver chest plate with matching gauntlets and greaves. He had long black hair which was what all demons had. Very little is known about demons other than they're hostile towards all other races and that once they die their bodies burst into flames leaving only ashes behind.
He glanced over his surroundings the found me.
Demon:"BLUE HAIRED BOY WHERE IS THAT WOMAN!"
I thought for a second before deciding what to tell him.
Falon:"She was killed by a fire ball so I buried her."
He started walking towards me.
Demon:"You lie boy. I know a simple fire ball couldn't kill her."
Falon:"It was pretty big."
Demon:" if you tell me now...I won't make you suffer."
I decided fighting him would be a bad idea, so I instantly created a smoke screen by evaporating all the water in the air.
When I started to run towards the sleeping quarters, I could feel fire balls hitting where I was just standing. After a few seconds I made it to the door and ran inside slamming it closed behind me.
My body still felt really drained so I took a second for a couple of breathes. I then started heading to the gathering room where Tessa would usually read us a story before we went to sleep.

I pushed the door open and saw the other 17 kids inside. Standing in front of them was a man with short white hair. When he turned to look at me I was shocked to see who he was. He looked exactly the same as when my first life ended as if he hadn't aged at all except for the white hair.
I couldn't move seeing him stunned me. Suddenly and intense pain started to come from my stomach. I looked down and saw a silver gauntlet covered in blood sticking out of my stomach.
Falon:"AAAAAAAAAHH!!!!"
I couldn't stop myself from screaming, and all the kids started to join in. When the gauntlet was pulled out I fell to the floor, standing above me was the demon race man.
White Haired Man:"Who's that?"
Demon:"he was outside I followed him here."
White Haired Man:"Well did you get that elf girl?"
Demon:"She got away, so there's no need to keep those kids."
After he said that I used all of my strength to turn my head towards the white haired man. The white haired man gathered mana into his hand, and created a fire ball then threw it towards the kids. I couldn't summon and strength to do anything except watch as the children burned.
White Haired Man:" She couldn't have gotten far order your men to stop the fire balls."
Demon:" Yes Sir."
The two of them started to move to the door, but I mustered enough energy to speak.
Falon:"how are you here!"
They stopped and turned to look at me, but turned right back and continued. After they left my thoughts were all over the place.
*It can't be.*
I used body modification magic to close up the hole in my stomach before passing out.
When I woke up, I looked towards the window and saw that it was night. I was able to stand up but my legs felt very weak, so I slowly made my way to the front door.
Once I made it outside I headed towards where I left Tessa. If she hasn't been found then the two of us would be the only ones left alive.
When I got to the hole, I could see it was undisturbed. I used magic to open it up and saw Tessa in there unconscious, but all of the burns had completely healed.
Falon:"What an incredible healing ability."
I had never met anyone that could heal themselves when they weren't even awake. I picked her up and brought her inside. I knew we couldn't stay there long, since they might come back. If I tried to leave now, I wouldn't make it very far since I felt very weak.
I went to Tessa's room grabbed one of her bags and packed her clothes. I found a grey robe in her closet that I was able to fit and put it on.
I returned to her and used earth magic to create a new hiding spot. With the two of us inside I decided to take a nap and hope that if the demons return they won't find us. Thoughts of the white haired man popped into my head. He was someone I new better than anyone else. His name was Keltor Thron, me from my first life.
As I started to drift off to sleep I uttered one phrase.
*what the hell was he.*
I fell asleep wondering if what I saw was real.

Author's note: I love the idea of kingdom-building novels and think the genre has a lot to offer, but I don't think many authors do them very well. Here is my attempt. The novel has a strong focus on politics and kingdom building, with occasional action and a bit of humor. Have fun. Cover was made by MrZombie Updates three times a week.
