《Nekana, One in Billions, Lost.》Chapter 12 - 'One more won't matter'

‘Nekana’
‘Yea?’
‘Things have gotten bad. Everything’s falling apart. And the fault’s mine’
‘I see… But you’re mistaken. It’s because you’re too nice, to the point you care too much beyond what you’re supposed to.’
Nekana knew of such problems, but couldn’t understand.
The brunette kept to herself as she was in her room. The surroundings were spacious and on the bed she was. Walls of a soft white with tinges of yellow was the colour of her wallpaper. Upon entering, a wardrobe could be seen. Next to it, the window, and then a couch. The curtains were purple and below the couch were drawers with quite an amount books filled.
At the present, a light yellow light filled the single-person consisting room. The current time night, and the full moon was out. If one were to step out, its gentle light would be bestowed upon. Stars could be hardly seen as the air pollution was taking its toll on the previously clear and gloriously beautiful night sky.
Nekana was speaking, more specifically messaging her friend who went by the name of Hussein. He was a previous classmate that had recently migrated and transferred to another country and school. He had a sharp jawline, alongside dark hazel eyes. Slightly dark and curly hair, his nose was decently placed and carved nicely.
The boy was a kind person. He treasured his friends and acted as a pillar of support when he could. And the friends he had to leave he held precious, the boy was deeply hurt in a way, if not more already. As kind and insecure as he was, he unintentionally, perhaps slightly aware, sought one he could rely on. The responsibility as a ‘person’ could take a slight toll after all. It was an instinct.
Sometimes, he would think to himself; as to how it was because of him much was falling apart.

Because of him, a former love lost a friend.
Because of him, the other was having trust issues.
If it weren’t for his arrival, none of this would have happened.
This, he told Nekana. And she would deny, as it was that he sought for.
Insecure, he sought reconfirmation as to it was really not his fault. He sought one he could reach and that they won’t pressure him. Example be: his family, which was on the verge of breaking. Divorce, a choice of sides, it wasn’t uncommon.
What Nekana was, a friend? A reconfirmation? Perhaps even a last thread away from reality?
His hand, submerged in dark water reached out as there her hand reached out, to grasp on to. Although he would tell on Nekana his troubles and it leads to his fault, Nekana would, gently and in an assuring tone tell him: It was not your fault, you are kind Hussein. She was sincere.
With brief sentences, he would curse himself more. And Nekana in turn would calm him. Through time, Hussein found himself immersed in a puppy love which he was not aware of.
So he confessed. And was rejected. For Nekana only found him a child, still young unlike his age and was lost. A guide was needed, until he could once again, stand and walk on his own.
He relied on Nekana, but then who does Nekana rely on in place? Her burdens? Such thoughts never did cross. The brunette however, did not mind as her back was broad, her shoulders wide. At least that was how she pictured it. ‘One more won’t matter.’ Such was she.

The Forbidden Class
Hatred. Lust. Power. There are many reasons why the Forbidden Classes are chosen. For Katai, a young village Guard, the reason was simple. Vengeance. Schedule I’ve not been able to write for quite some time now, so while I’m getting back into things the schedule will be nonexistent. Story details LitRPG - expect classes and skills and magic. Not a lot of stats/number-crunching though. There is slavery featured in this story, which a lot of people have been upset about. So here’s your fair warning. Skill levels and progression inspired by Azarinth Healer. Let me know what you think, and feel free to give me some constructive criticism. Please be nice about it though!

Nero Zero
Monsters plagued the lands for too long. No matter if one had fangs, beak, teeth, skin, fur, or feather, or was tall, stout, or diminutive, the people suffered. Until the Gadgeteers came with a device that could allow people to fight back. Powered by one's own magical power, feeding off of monster Essence, the Arbitrium bracer turned the tables. It also changed society. Strength of one's level cap was all that mattered. The strongest were Kings and Emperors. The weak or those too poor to afford the marvelous device, destitute. And so it has been for millennia. All that mattered was one's level cap. High, low, a fate decided the moment the strange contraption came alive. Too high and you were a threat to those interested in keeping the status quo, a weed to be nipped before it could grow and take root. Too low and you were nobody, fated to be a bit more than a simple farmer. What if someone, somewhere, came up with a zero for their level cap? Unable to use Essence, unable to level up. On all of recorded history, it never happened. Until it did. In a small village of fur-less and tail-less ape-beastkin, a boy found out he was uniquely handicapped. Nero's level cap was Zero. But he'd never let that stop him from reaching his goals. ------------------------------------------------ All stories have already been told. We merely reuse elements from them. From Joseph Campbell's Monomith to Stephen King's advice, and that encyclopedia of tropes you've visited, fiction has been dissected and reassembled countless times. One will surely find elements inspired on other works here. Just like cooking from basic ingredients, the recipe and presentation is what really matter. This is a fantasy adventure, of someone that goes from a zero to a slightly bigger zero. It will have romance but no harem. Cruelty but with hope dimly shining ahead. Lightweight where it can be, heavy where it must. Thanks for reading. Cover Credits (The cover is CC-BY-NC-SA): Steampunk Spider Bracer, by Daniel Proulx.
