《Shaking the world》Chapter 23: First Awakening

“Next participants, please make your way up to the stage.”
Standing opposite each other was class 6’s dagger wielding Vaalyun and class 2’s staff wielding Chasianna. After suffering defeat in the first round Vaalyun was determined to crush her opponent in the fastest way possible.
From Chasianna’s perspective, a prodigy such as Daeharice winning the first match was a natural occurrence. She’d personally trained against that monster and knew better than anyone how much potential he had just waiting to be unleashed. Now that it was her turn to fight, she was determined to prove that she had the right to stand next to such a prodigy on equal ground.
Sizing up her opponent, Vaalyun closely inspected Chasianna’s bo staff. An unusual weapon to use to try to kill your opponent. Besides its reach and weight it seems like more of a burden than anything else. Due to its length it should make it hard for her to move around freely. If I enhance my speed and agility with the wind element I should be get in close to point where she can’t extend her arms, making her weapon useless.
After coming up with a strategy, Vaalyun took up a reverse grip combat stance, waiting for the announcer to start the match. What she did know was that when she was sizing up Chasianna, Chasianna was sizing up her.
From her clothes, weapons and body type, I’d guess she’s from the rouge subclass. Fast and accurate but weak in endurance and defence. And from the look of her weapons, she needs to get in close to deal any real damage. If I keep her at a distance with my staff, I can wait until she tires out and then defeat her.
Seeing Vaalyun take up a combat stance, Chasianna readied her weapon and took up a stance of her own.
“BEGIN!!”
*CLANG!!*
*CLANG!!*
Before anyone could realise what had happened the sound of steels clashing against each other reverberated throughout the whole arena as both girls covered themselves in the wind element and clashed their weapons against one another.
She’s trying to get in close! Shifting her weight onto her right leg, Chasianna covered her weapon in the element of fire. Tightening her left hand on her staff and holding her right elbow close to her ribcage. She swung the staff with all her strength, breaking the weapon lock with Vaalyun, and forced her backwards.
*BOOM!!*
Once free from Vaalyun, she swung her staff wildly sending out multiple flame slashes.
*SLASH!!*
*SLASH!!*
*SLASH!!*
*SLASH!!*
*SLASH!!*
“Too slow” Seeing the flame slashes approach her, a mocking smile emerged on Vaalyun’s face as the wind around her legs started to rotated faster.
*BOOM!!*
*BOOM!!*
*BOOM!!*
*BOOM!!*
*BOOM!!*
With impeccable agility, Vaalyun gracefully dodged all the attacks as if it was child’s play. “Your gonna have to do better than that!” Increasing her speed even more, she appeared in front of the staff wielding Chasianna and violently slashed at her.
*PING!!*
*PING!!*
*PING!!*
*PING!!*
“Soon or later your defence is gonna crumble! There’s no shame in giving up!” As she rained a barrage of slashes down on Chasianna’s staff, she covered her body in wind and disappeared from sight.
Shit!!
Dodging to the side, Chasianna barley managed to avoid the wind blade that appeared behind her.
“Run!!”
Charging towards her was the dual wielding devil covered in turbulent winds. “If you don’t give up I’m gonna end up slicing you up.” Her speed left the audience on shock as she appeared all around the panicked Chasianna sending multiple wind blades in her direction.

Facing off against the insane amount of wind blades attacking her, Chasianna felt her defence slowly start to weaken. Shit!! At this rate she’s gonna tire me out! Can’t let her control the flow of the battle any longer!
A savage glint crossed her eyes as an omnidirectional earth shield rose from the ground and protected her from the wind blades. Feeling her connection with the earth shield, Chasianna violently spread her arms wide firing the huge slabs of earth in every direction. Got you!!
Seeing the agile Vaalyun slow down to dodge, she gathered the fire element beneath her soles and used the explosive force to shoot towards her opponent.
*BOOM!!*
Crashing into the distracted Vaalyun, she swung her fire covered staff relentlessly at the weakened girl.
*CLANG!!*
*CLANG!!*
*CLANG!!*
*CLANG!!*
*CLANG!!*
Feeling like she’d broke out of a near hopeless situation, Chasianna couldn’t help but laugh. “HAHAHAHA!! Who’s struggling now BITCH!!” Applying more force to her swings, she drove back the defending Vaalyun. Taunting her with every swing brought her immense satisfaction as she felt like her performance was at the same level as Daeharice’s.
“Didn’t you say there’s no shame in giving up? Why don’t you take your own advice!” Drawing her staff back like a bat, the flames covering it transformed into an intense inferno as she swung it with all her strength.
“URGHHHH!!” Using her daggers to block the swing, Vaalyun felt body rise into the air as she was sent flying into the distance. As her body crashed into the floor she felt several of her ribs break. FUCK!! This bitch is insane!!
Seeing the sadistic smile on Chasianna’s face coming closer and closer, a flash of hate crossed her eyes. You hateful bitch! I’ll slice that pretty face of yours to the point that no amount of healing will be able to deal with the damage I’ve done!
Rising to her feet, Vaalyun took in a deep breath before wrapping the law of air around her legs and charged to meet Chasianna.
*SWOOSH!!*
The air around the area she was standing at previously turned chaotic as she met head on with the sadistic Chasianna. Before the two clashed, Vaalyun shifted her weight on her right foot and sidestepped Chasianna.
“What?”
A confused expression covered her face as she saw Vaalyun purposefully avoid their clash. I thought she was gonna face me head on?
Her momentum didn’t slow down as she passed Vaalyun. Realising that her back was open to her opponent, a sense of worry rose in her heart. Twisting her body, she tried to face Vaalyun. Unfortunately, she didn’t take into account the speed she was going at. Her sudden twist caused her to put strain on her ankle resulting in her accidently twisting it and falling backwards. Taking advantage of her precarious situation, Vaalyun landed on top of her stomach and wildly slashed at her face. Chasianna’s eyes widened as she felt the cold metal come into contact with her skin.
*SLASH*
*SLASH*
*SLASH*
*SLASH*
*SLASH*
*SLASH*
*SLASH*
A gleeful expression covered Vaalyun’s face as she covered Chasianna’s face in a multitude of cuts and gnashes. Blood oozed out of her wounds as pain was written all over her face. In her eyes rage and hatred erupted. If looks could kill Vaalyun would have died ten times over by now.
“What’s that look for? I gave you the chance to surrender earlier but you ignored my goodwill. If you have anyone to blame, then blame yourself for that arrogance and lack of skill!” Seeing the hateful look in Chasianna’s eyes, caused her to feel uncomfortable.

Looking deeply into Vaalyun’s eyes, Chasianna grit her teeth and put emphasis on every word. “I. WILL. KILL. YOU!!”
*BOOM!!*
The law of fire erupted out of her body and sent a shockwave out towards the audience. Vaalyun’s danger instincts kicked in as she barley managed to avoid the eruption of flames spurting out of Chasianna’s body.
How the fuck does this bitch still have the energy to fight!!
Looking at the flame covered elf, a shiver went down her spine.
Walking out from the flames, a red haired elf with orange eyes locked eyes with her. Her skin was covered in a myriad of black tattoo-like symbols that seemed burnt into her flesh. Her face was covered in cuts and blood that gave her a ominous appearance.
Her steps were light but caused the ground beneath her to slowly melt. The air around her was shaking as if it was reacting to her presence. The temperature suddenly shot up as Vaalyun felt beads of sweat roll down her face.
Who is this?
Shaken up by the appearance of the strange girl, she didn’t notice the hate filled gazed aimed at her.
Feeling a warm sensation below her, she quickly did a backflip, dodging the sudden eruption of fire shooting out of the ground. In her place was scorched earth surrounded by steam.
Visibly shaken, Vaalyun focused her gaze on the redhead only to see her showing off a disgusting smile.
CHASIANNA!
Feeling a similar sensation beneath her feet, she quickly avoided another eruption of flames only to discover the place she was standing at now gave off the same amount of danger as before.
*BOOM!!*
*BOOM!!*
*BOOM!!*
*BOOM!!*
Somehow managing to avoid every fire eruption around her, Vaalyun’s figure could be seen jumping around the courtyard. From the eyes of the audience, it almost seemed like she was playing, the floor is lava.
…
“I-IS THAT AN ELF KING BLOODLINE!!” Feeling shocked, Daisha screamed at the screen and swerved her head to look at a stunned Rhina.
“I-I think so.” A dazed look appeared in her eyes as she watched Chasianna take on a similar appearance to herself.
The elf king bloodline was a rare transformation that only elves with the highest compatibility with certain laws could achieve. For generations only a few individuals were able to unlock this power. Although she had previously seen her sister use it, that was over 90 years ago so her sudden shock of seeing another individual activate the elf king bloodline was understandable. Not to mention that the girl’s highest elemental affinity was the same as her.
Looking at the screen, Kira felt nothing but disgust at the transformation. Just knowing that it was that bloodline residing in her body that caused the death of her family , the defiling of her mind and body and the loss of trust in humanity made her hate the power and those who use it. (including herself)
It was only after she met that young man who had the same look of hate and sadness in his eyes that she slightly let her guard down.
Where are you.
…
Shit! My body won’t be able to hold out much longer!
Her continuous amount of dodging was causing her body to enter into a quick state of exhaustion. If this carried on, Vaalyun feared that not only would she lose the match, but also her life.
Even the announcer was looking concerned but didn’t know what to do. Should he stop the match, No! no one had been injured or surrendered. Even if that transformation was unusual it wasn’t against the rules. Having no choice but to continue watching the match, he felt a lot of pressure on his shoulders.
The audience on the other hand was riled up! The majority of them had never seen such a transformation before and to them, this felt much more exciting than the first match!
From Daeharice’s point of view, he didn’t know what to feel. Happiness?, Sadness?, Anger? At first he furious after seeing Vaalyun cutting up Chasianna’s face. But now? All he saw was Chasianna toying around with her which left him confused. Why drag it out so long when she was clearly superior to her opponent? Not to mention he didn’t know how to react to her sudden jump in power. Although he felt like he could still defeat her, knowing that the gap between them had closed due to a transformation, left a bad taste in his mouth.
…
“Maeve what is that?”
Recalling her knowledge from the countless amounts of books she’d read. Maeve quickly figure out what she was looking at. “It looks like an elf king bloodline.” Squinting slightly she paused before continuing. “From the way she’s using her power I’d say it’s probably her first awakening.”
“First awakening?”
Realising that she was being too vague, Maeve slowly explained it to her friend. “When someone with an elf king bloodline feels an intense amount of emotions, their connection with the law that they have the highest affinity towards will be severed. When that connection is severed all that power left inside the body will be forced out and will try to forcefully restore the connection. By restoring the connection, a sliver of the law itself will reside within the body and cause the body to mutate in order to contain the sliver. The first awakening is when the body releases the excess amount of power outside while the inside restructures itself. Depending on the emotion used to sever the connection, the power released outside the body will either run rampant as we are seeing now.” Maeve directed her gaze towards the screen. “Or in some cases, the power could be gentle but intense.”
Confirming that she understood, Azariah nodded. “What if they fail to restore the connection?”
“Then they can no longer use that law ever again.”
…
She collapsed…That psychotic bitch tried to roast me alive then collapses like its nothing! What the fuck! Now I can’t slice her up because the match is over. Shit! Can I even slice her up with my skills anymore! That crazy power she was using was fucking outrageous! Fuck! I bet that bitch holds grudges. Maybe I should leave the island. No! If I leave then I’m out in the open. But what if she does something to me at the academy but they let her go because of her potential? Shit!! That’s actually a possibility! FUCK!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Vaalyun returned to her team with a solemn aura covering her body.

Sword System Academia
2/17 NOTICE: I'm putting this on hiatus, possibly permanently. I didn't want to spam with an "update chapter", so hopefully here and in the story blurb will get enough eyeballs. There are a couple reasons for ending SSA for now. 1) I wrote the next chapter but wasn't happy with it. I've been less and less satisfied with SSA's quality the more I thought about it. Part of the reason is... 2) I am seriously thinking about trying to publish some novels to help pay the bills, since I don't have my other source of income anymore. I have never asked for anything from SSA readers, no money, not even a review or rating. SSA is written for fun to amuse myself, primarily, and I would kind of feel bad actually charging someone money for something as unserious as that. I don't think it is good enough to ask anything in return. To use an analogy from music, SSA is more like a jam session with a bunch of friends. You're just chiling and having fun playing some music. I mean, if you are Mozart or even Eminem, your jam session is good enough to sell, but for an amateur beginner like myself, haha, no. If I want to publish something, I feel like I need to go the proper route of practice and rehearsals, which might be more similar to a classical concert performance. With SSA, I work from worldbuilding notes and a loose outline, but what you are essentially getting is the first draft with lots of so-called pantsing. Pushing out a web novel like this also means it is very difficult to go back and improve things without breaking everything else downstream. I wanted to try this "jamming" approach, as it was a good way to teach me about another aspect of writing, but to move forward, I think I need to hone my "classical" techniques, which emphasize rewriting, or at least, revising outlines. 3) While I intend to try to make $$$, my actual current goal is to "get gud". I've spent a lot of time recently trying to understand the self-publishing industry, and I'm pretty sure I can make some money by using short-term strategies with my current amateur skill level. But I've seen too many authors come and go/burnout, and really, the only way that I think I can enjoy writing and still make money on a long-term basis is to become a better writer. And the next step for me, which I haven't done much before, is to spend more time on rewriting and outlines. That is pretty much antithetical to the way SSA is developing. I've always been kind of 20/80 plotting/pantsing, but I want to spend a lot more time outlining before I even start writing. SSA jam sessions don't really fit my goal anymore. If you're curious about what's next, read on... Among other regrets, I regret not finishing SSA. It's the first story I've dropped, but then again, it's the first web novel I've attempted, so I suppose that's not a surprise. I don't think traditional web novel formats suit me that well. The whole SSA story I had loosely planned (beyond a first book or major arc) is way too large as well. Big story = good for neverending webnovel with Patreons, bad for penniless and fickle writer like me. I am currently outlining a complete trilogy to another story in great detail. I want the story to end concisely, and I also want the chance to really spend a lot of time on the full outline to spot pacing problems, character issues, lost themes, and so on. I'll still share this story on RR. What I intend to do is finish book 1, flash-publish the whole thing here for a few weeks, then publish on the big Zon. Repeat for books 2 and 3. The upcoming story will be about crafting heroes. The backdrop is an isekai-like setting, where elves will summon humans to their world as heroes, but the whole hero crafting business is still in its infancy. The elven mage researchers are figuring out how to imbue heroes with power, while the heroes are trying to figure out how to use the powers that they gain. Humans are the best hero templates because they are blank and have no intrinsic magic. Or at least that what the elves thought. The human MC has his own secrets... There will be some similarities with litrpgs, but I would call it more a progression fantasy or gamelit story. For example, the stats are very low, at least initially. Say we have a stat called Str. Going from Str = 1 to Str = 2 is a huge deal. Also, going from Dex = 0 to Dex = 1 is an even bigger deal. I guess you could call it a "low-stat litrpg", haha. Also, the heroes won't be gaining stats simply by killing things or leveling up. You can't increase stats arbitrarily, either. There will be rules to how stats can increase, and how they work with each other. The elven mages will be figuring out these rules in order to craft stronger and stronger heroes. Some inspiration will be from cultivation magic systems, but there won't be overt cultivation, at least for now. A theme I really want to explore is the idea of interactions. That includes things like hero crafter vs hero, tactics vs strategy, skill synergies, racial interactions (dwarves, elves, etc), and son. Yeah, so hero crafting. I'm super excited about this project and venturing into publishing. If you want to check out the upcoming story, you can follow my RR author profile to see when it drops here. Finally... THANK YOU TO EVERYONE! I'm very sorry that SSA is stopping, but I hope at least some of you will find the next story at least as enjoyable, if not more. Thanks to all the readers who gave SSA a shot. Big hug or solid fistbump to all of you, whichever you prefer! I hope this message is not a downer but an upper, because I am psyched!! -purlcray -------------- BLURB: Talen, youngest Master of the Koroi, makes his way to the Empire's capital to salvage his clan's fate. But the bustling city has few opportunities for the traditionalist. For the old sword clans are fading. With the rise of alchemy, gold can purchase strength that ordinarily took years of training to cultivate. Sword artists, once rare and accomplished, are quickly growing in number, especially among the wealthy noble class. Even with such alchemy, though, no one has advanced to the rank of Grandmaster in countless years. Talen's true dream is to walk the path of a sword artist to the very end while fulfilling his clan duties. And then the Swordgeists return, fabled founders of all sword arts, gods who had touched the world long ago and vanished. These myths turned into reality warn of a coming threat. Alongside this warning, they issue an invitation to the Sword System Academy, a path to power beyond the mortal realm. But first, they will hold an entrance exam... Story notes:Sword System Academia blends elements of western and asian fantasy such as xianxia and litrpg. I took parts from different genres I enjoyed and twisted them into my own creation. There will be an explicit system, both of the litrpg kind and the hard(ish) magic kind, but it is embedded within an academic structure that will develop over the course of the story. This is my attempt to design a unique type of system, the System Academia.

8 209One Piece: The Elder Twin
(Previously known as Being Luffy isn't Lucky) An utterly random person comes to their senses to find out that they're being dangled by their legs, not to mention that they feel some slight vertigo. Upon realisation, they discover that they've become... ahem, I mean they share a body with the one known as Monkey D. Luffy and they also have no idea who they are themselves! The one thing they do know? They used to be an absolute loner. (EDIT: So... a few months later and I come back to this and read like a few chapters. Only to realize the absolute rubbish the story and everything has become. There was many needlessly developed things that just waste chapters and don't even develop anything. The fiction's Mary Sue was horrendously developed. I'm just repeating myself to try and convey how terrible it developed... like seriously. IF I were to update the fiction again I would be thinking of improved concepts and ways to present everything which would contradict the entire way I previously presented everything.)
