《First Contact - Book 1: WarpStar》Prologue

Prologue
The human species always was good at war. It engulfed the first half of the 21st century in chaos. Turmoil between the rise of American Radicalism, and the discovery of Foreign intervention to ignite a minor American Civil War, the first half of the 2000s was tumultuous. The American Civil War had led to the spark of the Third World War, pitting the United States, Great Britain, and the European Union against China, North Korea, and Russia. The war that had never ended, half a millennium in time.
Historians called the war ‘The Extinction Level War’ during the time. With most powers involved possessing millions of nuclear weapons, it was a complete surprise to historians that only one nuclear weapon had ever been used during the war. North Korea had launched a failed atomic attack against the United States. Without atomic retaliation, the United States quickly invaded and defeated the nation.
To combat the pure might of the Russian forces, the nations of the world had proposed a radical change, unifying the governments to pool resources and capabilities. Various nations of the allied force mainly comprising the United States, the United Kingdom, Australia, and others came to the United Nations in a bold proposal to reform the allied system into an actual single government that spanned the globe. The United Federation of Nations was born.
Russia had amassed a major military power. With the aid of China, and most of the Middle Eastern countries, they formed what they called the Republic of Earth. Their goal was to claim the planet under their flag. For several years the war gained no ground on either side, and turmoil inside the allies of the Republic increased in tension. By 2050, Russia had declared war on Pakistan and Iran, invading the countries and overpowering them with ease. By 2055, all the Middle East was Russian territory. Fearing Russia would come for them next, China broke ties with Moscow. This effectively ended the Russian Republic, granting The Federation a brief reprieve from the war and an opportunity to recoup some losses. At the same time, Russia and China duked it out. No one anticipated the outcome of these two superpowers fighting their own war. In five short years, Russian forces had overtaken the Chinese Military. The successful invasion of China resulted in Russia declaring victory and forming The Republic of Russian Nations, which encompassed half of the planet.

With significant successes fighting China, the R.R.N had declared the planet to be rightfully theirs and launched a campaign for world domination. The United Federation of Nations fought the Republic with all their might, fighting for justice, peace, and the morals of humanity. By 2065 it was clear no side had a tactical advantage. With zero ground gained on any front, the war quickly fizzled, no party declaring the victor, no side declaring surrender. Considerable casualties and industrial losses produced more harm to the world economic condition than the industrial boom it initially created.
The war amplified the effects that carbon emissions were having on the planet. By the time China fell to Russia, the Antarctic Icecaps had melted to where concern was grave. Natural disasters intensified until they were claiming just as many lives as the war itself. Despite bureaucratic opposition, the president of the Federation declared an emergency and redirected all available resources toward solving the climate crisis, taking much-needed supplies away from military advancement.
While these measures did eventually solve the carbon problem, it took the rest of the millennia to reverse the effects. During the laborious process of preventing a global natural catastrophe, NASA, with support from the Federation, began an endeavor to expedite colonization of the solar system. By 2100 NASA had constructed Space Stations around Earth, and Luna. In the first decade of 2100s the Federation established colonies on Luna, Mars, and Deimos.
The Republic, perceiving these actions as a threat, adopted a strategy of tactical aggression Rather than dedicate resources to the colonization of other sections of the solar system, or even have separate colonies on the same celestial bodies, they dumped all of their resources into constructing a military space navy. The first task of this secret navy was a forceful invasion of Mars, where they succeeded for a short while, just long enough for the Federation to respond in kind. In response, the Federation absorbed NASA into the military complex, abolishing the longtime civilian-run branch of government and forming the first United Federations of Nations Navy. The war had now entered the Solar System itself.

By 2150, to aid the war effort, a multitude of technologies were invented and created to assist both sides of the war. Anti-Gravity, Gravity Plating, and Artificial Atmosphere Scrubbers were among some of the highest valued technologies developed and used for mankind’s expansion into the solar system. The Federation had developed the vast majority of the new technologies. To broker peace and an end to the war, they openly gave the quality of life technologies to the Republic to aid in their own expansion into space.

An Advance in Time
In the year 2050, nanotech was invented that allowed humanity to do what it does best: ignore reality. Jason was a project manager at Razor, Inc. where those simulations were crafted and improved every day. That is, until an accident with a power outage and a poorly-coded backup protocol saw his consciousness transferred to a server and his body in a coma for the foreseeable future. With the corporate vultures circling around what they see as a new piece of company software, Jason finds himself in one of the simulations he used to design.
