Soon I saw Vel coming to the front door as well, she put on a more luxurious coat than mine. The coat I wore was plain dark green and reached over my hips. Hers was long and black with white details added on her shoulders and purple ones in her collar. She would wear a purple scarf too, made from wool, just like my black one. Her gloves were thinner than mine, they made sure her hands remained feminine.
She looked at me when she was ready saying 'All done, where did you plan on going?'
I had planned on walking a small round, but there was someone I wanted to visit. 'I wanted to go to the lake, I'm curious if the old man has caught anything.' Her face changed to one seemingly saying oh that guy while exclaiming. 'Ah the fisherman, sure let's ask he, might have caught something interesting.'
We stepped outside, went through the gate, and made our way through town, to the lake which our town is built around. The streets were quite busy for a Tuesday, so we went past lots of people, many of them knew Vel. She was the daughter of a highly accomplished wizard after all. Luckily this had something intimidating as well. People didn't often stop her for a chat. And she liked it that way.
We went past some shops and Vel stopped suddenly. 'Wow that is a very pretty dress, don't you think so?' She was looking at something out of a fairytale and I wasn't sure if that dress was magical or not, but for the price of it. It probably should be. The dress was a midnight blue, with sparkling glitters of light gold, seemingly making the slim part of the dress integrate flawlessly with the wider part from the back of it.

I was caught off guard, so I just said the first thing that came to mind. 'I think you would look beautiful in it.'
My face went red in an instant after I realized what I said.
She gave me a look I had never seen before,
'I see, so you do think I can be beautiful, that is quite interesting Jacob.' She walked away.
I stood there for a little while, thinking of how I messed up and how to give it a clever spin. I simply couldn't, everything would sound stupid.
I ran after her for a bit to catch up. As I came to walk next to her again she said something in a tone that was obviously meant to be teasing.
'Ah there you are, were you daydreaming or something.'
I just tried to hold a poker face and said. 'Something like that.'
She was holding both of her arms quite close to her body. 'It's quite cold don't you think.'
Her lips were pinkish and moved staggered as she spoke.
I didn't feel cold in the slightest. 'I don't think it's that cold'
'Wait, feel my hands they are freezing'
I grabbed her hands in both of mine.
Her hands were so delicate and small in mine, and this time very cold.

She decides to grab her trusty rifle and set out into a home made strange and sinister, determined to find her father and confront whoever is responsible. The Lay of the Black Doors is a horror/adventure story that takes place in a secondary world. It is mainly inspired by the Cthulhu Mythos, Amnesia: The Dark Descent, China Miéville’s Bas-Lag books, M.T. Anderson’s The Game of Sunken Places, and Shea and Wilson’s The Illuminatus! Trilogy. Be warned that the story involves frightening situations and occasional dark themes, as well as some violence and gore. Weekly updates. No longer on hiatus! The cover image is not mine. It is "The Drawbridge," a 1761 engraving by Giovanni Battista Piranesi.

The Drifting World
In the year 2104, a brand new VRMMO called The Drifting World is released promising realism, adventure, and freedom like no other. Follow Noah as he builds his character Chemistree, a Treant rogue, and uncovers the mysteries of a destroyed virtual world. Expect guilds, dungeons, skills, stats, and, levels as he progresses through the main story of the game and tries to uncover what secrets the game has to hide. Okay, stereotypical introduction over. This is my first time trying to release a story I've written, so feedback is welcome. The premise is nothing special, I just want to do it well. A lot of similar stories I've read make me ask "what kind of game would work like that?" Sometimes believable gameplay elements give way for a more immersive story, but I hope to make that as balanced as possible rather than going for cheap thrills. Well, I guess we will just see how this goes.
