《The Survival of the Prince》Chapter 24

"If you do something enough times, and expect nothing to go wrong… All I can say is that you're a fool, and an idiotic one at that." – an exhausted philosopher

Alex starts to open his eyes, the blue light slowly worming them open.

'I'm getting really tired of this.'

'Wait… what is this?'

Lamps with blue flames give off light. This light imparts the room to Alex, all the tables filled with glassware, the papers scattered across the floor, the chalkboard filled with writing, the pile of books carelessly discarded in the corner dressed in a blue glow. The reeking smell of rotten food and sweat reminiscent of sewage then assaults Alex's nose.

A man with bags around his eyes, and gray hair and beard messy with particulates of food and unknown substances, starts speaking. "Sorry for the mess, I didn't really expect to be bringing over a living visitor. Oh, pardon me, it's Alex, right?" the man pats his shoulder.

Alex tries to look down, to notice that he can't, while the man ponders for a moment.

"My name isn't actually something you need to know. Anyway, I'm very curious how you survived that mess with the revolution if you wouldn't mind fulfilling my curiosity?'

'Wait, what? And why did he say a living visitor? Why can't I move? This doesn't look good…'

Alex looks back and forth and starts struggling.

"Oh, I'm sorry, I'm sure you want to fill your curiosity first," the man looks at Alex, his eyes twinging with a mad gleam, appraising him like an object, "You see, I've hit a standstill in my research, and I believe the augmentum constitution might help." The man starts giggling before coughing, "I had planned on taking your corpse, but you just had to survive." The man takes out a large brown bag, similar to the one that Ivona had once used. "So I had to use magic in a god-forsaken area like that, and with it there as well. In the end, though I have you, sure it might have progressed my condition a bit, but," the man holds up the scalpel, it gleams under the blue light, "I have you. Now, let's first awaken that eye of yours."

The man opens the bag, pushing a few yellowing papers which flutter flightless to the floor. He then takes out a syringe and stabs it into Alex's arm.

"We can't have you trying to escape, not with the last batch wearing off."

Alex's sight gets blurry, and he loses any sensation of feeling in his limbs.

'An analgesic then, well, at least it won't be painful.'

"It should only be painful for a couple of hours, after that they should awaken. I can't wait!"

"I'll finally get magic sight!"

That was the day that Alex lost his sight.
