《The Survival of the Prince》Chapter 2

"Sometimes memory is as intangible as our thoughts, and sometimes it is as tangible as the world crashing down around us" -an adroit philosopher
Thinking back on the events that had just transpired, the boy twitches and shakes.
'What was that, where am I, why do I know so little, what is my name…, this doesn't make any sense.'
The boy starts to violently scratch his head in frustration and stops at a twinge of pain.
'Something must be wrong with my memory, at least that person thinks so, and I would think I would know my name otherwise…'
He looks around the room, noticing the state of unnatural cleanliness.
'Why are the walls so clean, there's not a speck of dust anywhere, and now that I'm thinking about it, this room smells like bleach and a faint whiff of…'
'Bleach…Bleach…Bleach… hm… what's that again?'
After thinking for a long couple of minutes, the boy tries to throw his hands up in frustration, but only managed to slowly move them, painfully, thanks to what he assumes to be his condition.
'It doesn't matter; I just hope that that person comes back with some answers, about my condition, my memory, and hopefully everything else that this situation is.'
The boy doesn't have to wait long as a bedraggled, sleep-deprived, duke enters the room, against the protest of his subordinates.
"Alex, are you okay," the man says as he walks towards the boy. "Alex, I know you might be a bit out of sorts right now, but can you tell me what you can remember"
"I…"
'I've got to think there has to be something.'
But at that moment, there wasn't.
"I'm not sure," the boy, no Alex, stutters.
'who is this man, he seems to know me.'

Ivona leans against the wall at the threshold to the room, looking at the boy and shakes her head, "I'm sorry Walter, if he doesn't remember he doesn't, it's a result that we knew might happen."
The man, Walter, looks at Ivona, his eyes simply saddened at the seemingly impossible situation.
Ivona sighs, and approaches her distressed long-time friend, "It's likely temporary Walter, a bought of amnesia, but just in case something was damaged…" Ivona pauses, giving in to Walter's pleading gaze, "I'll stay a bit longer, just to make sure there are no other sequelae and to help hasten his convalescence, but I can't make any promises concerning his memory."
Walter then hugs the boy telling him, "everything is going to be alright, Alex. Everything's going to be okay."
Ivona's patience snaps, and she starts pulling the duke out of the room, "Let's discuss this elsewhere Walter the boy is tired and needs to rest."
Walter gives Ivona another pleading gaze, but it seems to have lost its magic, and all that meets it is a stern one, Walter sighing, hugs the boy once again telling him,
"I love you, son, just stay safe and heal up, I'll see you when you get a bit better."
Ivona then drags Walter out of the room, and the servants follow along with them, leaving the boy, who had been in an almost trance this entire encounter, alone with his thoughts.
'So I'm Alex, that's cool, I guess…'
Alex starts rubbing his forehead while remembering what had just transpired.
'I've got a good father, I guess, if he even is my father that is – though he sure acted like it, and it seems that whatever surgery I just went through was successful since I'm alive, a caring father (if he's that) wouldn't put their son through whatever a surgery without reason if there is the possibility for such unpleasant side effects, so I'm assuming my life was at risk or something equally drastic. Everything seems settled, for now, so what's this uneasy feeling I'm getting…'

The boy continues to ponder into his thoughts for some time before ending up planning to ask one of the servants he saw earlier more about what he was like, and maybe that 'doctor looking lady' about his condition. With his plan all set, he falls into sleep.
