《Magnum Opus》6.4

Pulling out a small silver tube, my mentor said, “Come, let me take some blood, it’s one of the basic tests I run to help figure out what a person's talent is.”
Feeling a slight burn as the needle pricked my skin. Releasing a soft hiss, I said, “So what exactly are you using my blood to looking for.”
As he waved the tube, now filled with my blood in front of his face. He said, “It’s not really that complex, at least nine out of ten talents come from have some form of a bloodline. So it’s the first thing I look at, certain talents for specific bloodlines, makes my job easier.”
Looking at my blood sloshing in the tube, I said, “Oh well that makes sense.”
Watching as he put the tube with my blood in it, in an opening on the side of the silver contraption. Mana began to thrum through the air surrounding the silver box, as lines of runes began to glow across its surface.
With the hum of the vibrating box droning on in the background. I said, “So what is this thing supposed to do?
Turning to look at me my mentor said, “Hmm, oh this It’s called a machine but this particular machine is called a Nabu-synthesizer; it's really just a branch of alchemy, and what it does is break down your blood to the smallest particle. Than sorts those particles into groups based on how they are identified. Each grouping not only represents a latent-bloodline but also how diluted it is.”
As my mentor lead me to another machine, this one had a glass pyramid on top. I was baffled by this new wave of information, but it sure sounded interesting.
Stepping beside this new machine, my mentor said, “This machine is called a lux-inhibitor, it’s used to replicate a high-stress situation, and records your reactions. All you have to do is stand on the circle over there, and look into the pyramid.”

Standing on the small white circle, awkwardly pulling at my arm. I said, “Like this?”
Continuing to hit something on the other side of the machine, my mentor said, “Yes, just like that, no need to be nervous.”
Watching a glowing orb appear inside the glass pyramid, I said, “Okay, this isn’t so bad, I can totally do this.”
The orb began to flash in a spectrum of light, my stomach dropped as my vision blacked out.
Thousands of men in heavy armor fought, blades flying, and biting into their opponent's bodies. With blood flying through the air as giant fires appeared throughout the battlefield. Over a hundred people shouting commands. Both armies clashing; diving down, rolling out of the way of an incoming blade, I felt the sting of an arrow pierce my thigh. With my heart beating loudly in my chest, my vision going red with rage. I felt the mana pour out of the air smashing down on my enemies.
Screaming, pausing as I realized I was back in the room, it felt like I just woke up from a dream.
Looking around confused I said, “Wha... what happened?”
With mirth in his eyes, my mentor said, “No need to worry, it’s normal to have that reaction. The whole point of the lux-inhibitor is for you not realizing you're in a dream.”
Walking past me, My mentor said, “Follow me, this test is a little different from the ones that came before. Please step into the formation.”
“Okay, is there anything I need to do once I'm inside?” I said, Walking into the glowing circle.
Standing next to another one of the silver machines, tapping along its side He said, “No, just close your eyes, and stand there. Just tell me if you feel anything.”

Even with my eyes closed, I could still feel the slight tickle of mana against my skin. The deep vibrating sound of this machine seemed to beat in sync with the mana touching my skin. As the prickling sensation turned into a heavyweight feeling like I was wrapped in a cocoon of. I must have dozed off because the next thing I know, I hear my mentor calling.
Shaking myself from the drowsy feeling, I said, “Ugh, sorry I think I fell asleep must be because I didn't sleep well last night, what were you saying?”
Laughing, with an unreadable expression, my mentor said, “It’s fine, I was just going over my findings. But before we continue, I would just like to say, you meet my standards for becoming my disciple If your willing that is?”
Looking at him in shock, I said, “What, really? I didn’t really think I'd make the cut, I mean I’m not really anything special.”
Sighing, my mentor said, “Hmm, we can work on that later. But yes you’ve definitely made the cut. Just say the word, and I’ll accept you as my disciple, no pressure.”
I don’t know what to do I wish I had someone to talk to about this, but he doesn’t seem as cold as he was earlier. He’s also obviously knowledgeable, even the headmaster seemed to respect him.
Looking at him, deciding to take another chance. I said, “Yes, I would like to become your disciple.”
