《The Infinite Resurrections of Ray Mc'Lore》4. Rescue

Even after killing the spider, Ray’s heart didn’t settle down. He couldn’t relax. Clenching his fist, he decided to advance forwards to the direction from where he heard the cry for help earlier. But before that, he had one last thing to do.
Walking up to the already dead spider, he put his right palm on its head.
“Loot” He mumbled under his breath.
A yellow light flashed from his palms before enveloping the spider. After lasting for a while, it vanished, leaving behind a pile of materials. They were two yarns of wool, a bottle containing red liquid, pieces of bones, and a crystal ball the size of a ping-pong ball.
“Identify” He mumbled, looking at the materials on the ground.
[Enchanted spider-silk yarn –crafting material-]
[Mediumgrade Health Potion –consumable-]
[spider bones –Consumable-]
[Medium grade Dunegion sphere –currency-]
“Great loot” Ray smiled merrily. Suddenly, he felt like the bad luck he had been through his life was worth it. He couldn’t wipe off the smile from his face. ‘My days of being in debt are over!’ Ray was ecstatic. Raiders take Porters along during a dungeon raid because only Porters can loot dead monsters inside the dungeon. It’s a job-exclusive ability. Yet, due to how easy it was to get this Job when becoming level 1, Porters weren’t as rare as it would seem.
Hence, despite being a Porter, Ray barely earned enough to have his ends meet. The insane debts he was in didn’t help either.
With shine in his eyes, he removed his jacket and collected the drops into it. His bag, which he had spent a sizable amount on, was shredded to pieces. Its content, the loots from the previous floors, were probably eaten by that spider.
‘Two enchanted yarns, they will go for 50k Empire Credits. If I can find a suitable broker for the black market, it might go for higher.’ Ray carefully kept the yarns down before taking the bottle of red liquid in his hands. ‘This health potion, I will find a desperate rich dude and sell it to him. Anyway, I can resurrect after death, so I don’t need it.’ Putting down the bottle of red tonic into the jacket, Ray stuffed the last two pieces, the bone, and the crystal ball, into his pockets.

“Argh!!” The faint cry was heard again. This time, however, it sounded like the owner was tired and lost all their strength. It was barely louder than a whimper. The only reason why he was even able to hear it was the relative silence of the enclosed hall. Ray gulped a mouthful of air and nervously headed towards the dark tunnel.
The source of light inside the hall was only a chandler hanging from the roof. But, the light was not enough to enlighten every corner of the hall. A large portion of the hall was shrouded in darkness, with who knows what lurking in them.
Not willing to stay behind and become a target of some other monster, he quickly went into the tunnel. The voice had gone silent, but Ray knew whoever it was should be up ahead. As he entered the tunnel, the light behind him gradually drowned in the darkness. Ray rummaged through his pockets before pulling out a small flashlight.
Click!
The switch made a clicking sound, and the light illuminated a conical area in front of him.
“Ahh!!” Ray couldn’t hold back a scream. The uneven walls of the tunnel were densely packed with skeletons hanging to them with white ropes. A few had bite marks on the surface as if something had nibbled on them. Ray moved his light and soon found half-eaten bodies, but those don’t look like they belonged to humans. He breathed out a sigh of relief.
“Mhm!!” The muffled voice came again, startling Ray. The owner must have heard his scream and was trying to attract his attention. Moving his flashlight around, he searched for the source. And he soon succeeded in finding the source. A little further from where stood, a humanoid body was covered in white silk-like material hung from the ceiling. The voice came from this humanoid cocoon.
Ray walked over while being careful of his steps. He didn’t see any monsters but didn’t dare to put his guard down. The last thing one could do in a dungeon was to let his guard down and die.

“Hey! you alive, pal!?” He whispered near the wrapped-up body. He didn’t dare to touch it rashly. What if he catches some infection?
“mhmm!” A muffled scream came from within the cocoon as the person inside noded their head furiously. Ray hummed in response. “Calm down! Don’t make noises.” He requested before looking around for something sharp. Then, he recalled, he didn’t have anything sharp with him at the moment. He looked over at the still man while deep in thought. He wasn’t cruel enough to just abandon them when there were no dangers around him. The silk around the person looked sturdy. He couldn’t do anything to it with his bare hands.
‘Wait!’ Ray stopped as a sudden epiphany hit him with the force of a ton of bricks. ‘Crystalline Poison Arrow also has corrosion properties. Can I use it!?’ Although the idea was possible on paper, it seemed like a lot of work when put into practice. He might not even succeed. Ray looked over to the body of the man and sighed. His eyes shifted towards the other end, where he could see a faint source of light.
‘That must be the exit,’ Ray’s face looked contemplative. ‘Alright! Let’s do this.’ Like before, he clapped his hands and activated the ability. With a flash of yellow light, an arrow made of glass formed between his palms. He grabbed it with his right hands, and almost immediately, a ‘+’ sign appeared in the middle of vision.
[Crystalline Poison Arrow]
[Deals 2900 Damage per Second for ten seconds]
[Stamina: 100/300]
Ray nearly keeled over when the arrow finished forming. The stamina drain was too much for him to handle in one go. Of course, it was due to him not being used to having his stamina consumed at this scale. Gritting his teeth, he touched the tip of the arrow on the wrapped up person’s torso.
Chiss!!!
A sizzling noise echoed as the silk-like material turned black before falling off. ‘It works!’ Ray’s mouth stretched to a smile. Without delay, he started using it to disintegrate the material and free the person. He also noticed that the arrow’s tip was getting duller with each second passed. By the time he reached the woman’s legs, it had all but gone.
Surprisingly, the living mummy was actually a woman in her late teens. She had short dark hair on her head, an oval face that would have looked cute if not for her lip and eyebrow piercings. She wore black leather pants, knee-length punk-styled shoes, and a vest. All in all, she looked like a rebellious punk, yet cute.
“Ah, thank you- guh-” before she could finish talking, her eyes rolled to the back of her head as she fell on Ray.
“Hey!?” The death-cheater patted the girl’s back. His voice carried hints of panic and dismay. “Hey! You alright? What happened to you?” Yet, she didn’t answer his questions. The shaking of her body and rising and falling of chest, which had pressed into his, indicated that she was still alive.
Ray breathed a sigh of relief. ‘Dammit! Making me do all this work!’ He complained before lifting the girl and dropping her on his shoulders, like a sack of potatoes. Adjusting his shoulders, he flashed the light ahead and walked over towards the light in the far.
‘At least she is a cute girl.’

Cosmic Bulldozing Team
"Welcome to the Cosmic Bulldozing Team! CBT for short... references to any other acronyms are purely coincidental." Breve has one exceptional gift: an inborn potential for Resurrection magic. The cost? Every other healing spell she casts is absolutely paltry in comparison to the rest of her race, making her family outcasts within her society. That potential alone, however, classes Breve as a Rank A Healer. By what metric? Well, by the crazy elf lady who’s about to destroy her planet. Wait, what? Here's the low-down: her planet has been targeted by the Cosmic Bulldozing Team, which, as their name suggests, operates in the apparently lucrative business of destroying planets. This comes with the unfortunate side-effect of also murdering everyone who lives there. And Breve would’ve been killed, too, if she hasn’t unintentionally passed their audition for a new healer. Unwillingly saved by the people who just annihilated everything Breve ever knew and loved, she’s dragged into a massive spaceship before, without a moment’s reprieve, being assigned missions to sally forth and commit the same atrocities on other planets. And with Breve's home lying in a pile of celestial bedrock, it seems that cooperating is the only option. And she will cooperate, or so help her, they'll send her back whence she came: into the void of space, where the smashed rubble of her planet now drifts along. "Buckle in, rookie: you've got some planetary destruction ahead of you." (Updates every 2 days.)
