《Welcome to the Dungeon》Chapter 5
Advertisement
I went back into the dungeon as soon as I returned home. When I returned to the room I've been frequenting lately, there were again six goblins. It was a tough fight, but, using >, >, and my sword and evasion techniques, I was able to defeat all six goblins. My HP was reduced to 11, so I had some bruises. Four of these goblins dropped EXP shards. When I was resting, I got a notification from the system.
[Due to the Effects of class: Skill Lord, regeneration: HP (minor) has been acquired]
[HP decrease resistance has been acquired]
I immediately used my appraisal ability to check both of them.
Regeneration: HP (minor)
Level: 1
Description: passively heals 1 HP per hour. Level 2-5 reduces time required by five minutes each, level 6-25 by reduces time required by 2 minutes each
HP decrease resistance
Level: 1
Description: makes it 5% harder to lose HP per level, max: 50%
I then asked a couple questions to the system to garner more information, especially since regeneration was not its own column when I checked my status. I learned that there are some properties that can be regenerated. Humans have two of HP and MP, but other races may have more, such as spiritual forge. MP regeneration is affected by the ??? class, so its calculations are not included. The growth of the skill begins with insignificant->minor->small->medium, but I'm not authorized to view the remaining progression. Insignificant is inherent in each person and is not included in the list. It is difficult, normally, for the regeneration to be upgraded, and most never get past medium. While there is a large change between each, the one between medium and the next level is the largest.
After hearing this, I began to go out of the room, but a baby goblin spawned from the wall. Quickly, I slashed it. It disappeared and I walked to the next room.
I continued down the stone passageway, past the room. I then saw a large area full of goblins. There must have been at least 50, if not more than that. I could not fight so may at once, so I ran away.
A line of goblins followed after me. I had another tough fight, lasting the night. I barely survived, with my HP going down to 3. I went to my mansion to sleep during the day and rest for the next 12 hours. For my troubles, I was gifted three goblin clubs, one broken frail sword, and two EXP shards. I must have fought at least ten goblins. When my HP was restored nine hours later, I went back. Some of the regeneration seemed to be my own, without the skill. When I went to bed at first, I had multiple wounds covering my body. Now, everything was perfectly healed. My MP was still a little low, as I used a couple paralysis eyes, poison eyes, and very hot fireballs. I may not have won without help from poison eyes.
Saturday night, I went back to fighting goblins. I fought both the six from the spawn, and I went back to the large room I was in before. Surprisingly, there weren't as many goblins. There were only four, so I spent the night defeating them. I got the pale blue potion from this fight and 2 EXP shards and a goblin club from the spawn room. I spent the day on Sunday doing chores around the house. Throughout the nights of Sunday through Thursday, I continued challenging the two rooms. I got a few of the pale blue potions, so my MP at the end of the week was at 160, even with many uses of my spells. Paralysis eyes and fireball leveled up, and I got a few of the weapon drops from the goblins, as well. The biggest reward was most likely the unlocking of the next seal of Heaven's Grace on Tuesday.

Soul Search
Rank: SS/UU
Level: 1/1
MP: 50/use; one use allows looking at one soul until looking away
Description: allows looking at a target's soul itself, bypassing all blocking mechanisms. Level increase one increases number of souls, level increase two increase amount of time to see souls. At max level, soul of target always viewed.
Comments: This is the unique portion of Heaven's grace. Unique spell learned
I did not have a need, currently, to look at souls. I had never seen the comments section, and it was my first UU spell, as well. Unluckily, I did not receive any achievements for the spell. Additionally, I learned from the system that universally unique spells and SSS-grade spells all have two levels that are raised independently from each other.
I told my parents I was going over a friend's house Friday afternoon for the weekend. Actually, I went to my mansion in the dungeon. There, I completed my weekend homework. When night fell in the outside world, I went back into the first room and conquered it, again. Gaining 2 more EXP shards, I now had only six remaining until my level increased once again. I went straight into the next room, and it was empty. On the other days, this room had at least six or seven goblins, possibly up to ten. Today, though, it was oddly quiet. I snuck around the edges, looking for any mana strings or other traps. I saw, at the end of the room, a glossy floor panel like before. I had kept a goblin club in my warehouse, and, now, I took it out. I thought it would be fun swinging a club, but it wasn't as fun as I thought it would be. At least I could finally get rid of it. I threw it at the floor panel, where it immediately ignited. All of a sudden, two doors on either side of the room start to creek open slowly.
From the first door to open comes a slightly bigger goblin with more muscles. Appraisal showed this goblin was an adult goblin, different from the weakened goblins.
type: monster (adult goblin)
vitality: 70/70
magic and skills: fire flicker Lv 7, goblin control Lv 4, elementary sword techniques Lv 2,
Its vitality was double that of the weakened goblins, but that wasn't the worst part. It had skills! My elementary sword techniques may have been higher, but it still had the skill. Goblin control was obvious. It could control other goblins. I appraised fire flicker, but it did not scare me too much. It only affected those with burn resistance less than three, even at such a high level. Out of the other door came a second adult goblin, with the same vitality and the same skills, except it had ice flicker Lv 9 instead of fire flicker Lv 7. Even with the higher level, ice flicker did not affect me since my freeze resistance was at least level three (its level four). Appraising the swords they carried, I saw they were not the broken frail swords but actual frail swords. As soon as they both stepped through the door, I heard the system.
[the goblins have noticed your slaughter and are retaliating.]
When it said that, the door to move further in the dungeon quickly closed itself. The system, though, carried on.
[Conditions met. Heaven's Grace second seal released. Current seals: 2]
I appraised the new magic, hoping it could help me defeat the adult goblins.
Spell: Angel's Status Annulment
Rank: SS/WU
Level: 1
MP: 100/use
Description: removes all status afflictions and curses from target, up to a certain level determined by level of spell
Advertisement
Skill: Angel's Curse Annulment
Level:
MP:
Description: passive skill without level, does not allow user to be afflicted by any curse; curse nullification automatically Lv 20/20
Not only did I get the usual expensive spell, but I also got a skill. I did not know anything about curses at that time, but, knowing they exist due to the skill, I became nervous the skill would not work. The skill also brought a large benefit against curses. According to the system, once resistances reach level ten, they become nullifications. At that time, an N is added to the level. The entire ten levels of a resistance are equal to one nullification level. Each level nullifies 5% of total damage caused, whereas the resistances at max level only make it harder to get hit with whatever you are resistant to and effect spells and skills. At level twenty, 100% of curses are nullified!
While I was thinking about my new skill, I failed to notice more goblins crossing the doors. Soon, each adult goblin had five goblins with clubs and two with swords. There were now eight on each side, with a total of sixteen. I wanted to move, but I was unable to. Finally, the doors on both sides shut. Just like in the tutorial, a number appeared above the door to move on; however, this one was slightly more broken down.
「weakened goblins defeated 0/14」
「adult goblins defeated 0/2」
「baby goblins defeated 0/1」
I backed up to the previous room and saw that a baby goblin spawned. Not thinking twice, I used > to create a bright light, shut my eyes, and plunged Blackmail into the baby goblin, defeating it. The number of baby goblins defeated disappeared from the door. I did not know how I knew so, since the door was in the next room, though. I now had to find a way to defeat the remaining sixteen.
I hoped my fireball would work on at least some of them. I used 120 MP so that it was as hot and damaging as the 30MP but spread out in a much wider area. At the entrance to the large room, I fired it off. A loud sound was heard all of a sudden. Not wasting any time, I ran into the room. I immediately surmised the situation in front of me. There were multiple wounded goblins coming towards me, and the two adult goblins seemed unaffected. Looking at the door, it seemed that I had killed eight of the fourteen goblins with the one attack. Using >, I went into the room and collected my prizes from the defeated goblins. The weakened goblins weren't fast enough to catch up with my speed, but the adult goblins were closing in fast. I got a single EXP shard, some more pale blue liquid, and a spell book. I immediately drank the liquid and attempted to distract the goblins with a 30 MP luminescence. It worked for a second, and I was able to > to the door.
I readied blackmail, knowing I was in for a tough fight against the two adult goblins. First, though, the weakened goblins came towards me. I used > > and > against the first three goblins that came at me. As they were already badly burned, I was able to take on all three at the same time. I suffered a lot of damage, though, from those three goblins. My rewards were an EXP shard and the pale blue liquid. The next three goblins came at me to fight, and, during the time I was fighting the first three, the remaining ones slightly healed. They were also all using swords. I defeated two of the three and got an EXP shard, but I was too badly injured to continue. There were cuts all over my body, and I was heavily bleeding. With my HP down to 3, I retired to my mansion. After the fight, my exsanguination resistance and pain resistance both increased in level. It still hurt a lot, and there were still many cuts on my body. The bleeding slowed a little. I went back to my room at home and brought some clothes back with me to use as bandages. I rested in the mansion for ten hours, waking up around ten o'clock on Saturday. My HP went up by nine, and the bandages helped slow my bleeding. It must have been severe, though, because my exsanguination resistance leveled up again and my HP had decreased further, since it wasn't even at ten after all the hours I spent waiting for it to heal. I had some scars from the swords, still, as well.
All of the clothes I brought were ruined with the blood. Wondering what to do with them, I heard the system.
[What would you like to do with item: ruined shirt x6? Options: store, sell, equip]
I chose sell, and, instantly, the six ruined shirts vanished. Each gained me $1 BTP. I looked at the store and saw that the T-shirts that had been ruined were now for sale, for $3 BTP each. I bought two with the money I earned. Once I did so, they appeared in my hands. They weren't the ruined ones I sold, either, but perfectly normal shirts. I put one on and went back to my room, stealthily. I didn't spend too much time there, and I quickly went back to my mansion. I stayed there until about two o'clock in the afternoon before I went back to the goblins. Before I could even get to the adult goblins, though, another six respawned. Looking at the wall with the mana threads on it, I had an idea. First, though, I had to defeat these goblins. It was the usual struggle against them, and I gained an EXP shard. Going to the wall, I wanted to try mana manipulation to see if I could stop the spawning. Looking at the wall, I did not know where to begin. I tried grabbing one of the strands of mana, and I was able to successfully grasp it. I tried pulling it away, and it took a lot of might to remove it. I also seem to have lost 10MP from that action. Not wanting to further waste my MP, I decided to stop messing with the spawner. I did appraise it, though. In the description, there was a small change. It now took three hours for the goblins to mature instead of two.
Description: generates baby goblins at a fixed interval until a predetermined maximum is met. After three hours, the goblins grow up to become weakened goblins. There is a small chance that they will continue to grow and become normal goblins.
I then thought, after reading it again, that I was lucky my change was positive. I could have, instead, made it much worse. I could have instead made normal goblins the default, or at least increased the chances. If I was really unlucky, adult goblins could have even spawned!
Not wanting to try again, I proceeded to the large room.
「weakened goblins defeated 13/15」
「adult goblins defeated 0/2」
I now have another goblin I have to fight to get past this room. I used 30MP for luminescence to surprise the goblins again. I was surprised that this kept working on them and that they have not figured out the trick to beat it. I next used 40MP for two > against the weakened goblins and most of my remaining 10MP for > on the adult goblin. My final 5 MP, though, was used to > in front of the first weakened goblin, using my sword skills to defeat it. As a reward, I drank the pale blue potion it dropped. I used > to defeat the remaining weakened goblin and drank the pale blue potion it dropped. I also sold the goblin club it dropped to the store. The weakened goblins disappeared from the door, leaving only the adults to defeat.
「adult goblins defeated 0/2」
I used > on both adult goblins once they started chasing after me. It was then I remembered the spell book I gained before. I proceeded to read it, initially disappointed by the result upon appraisal.
Freeze eyes
Rank D-
level: 3
Mana use: 10/use
Requirements: ice affinity 20%, freeze resistance Level 3
Description: uses ice to freeze target's movement base (legs or wings) temporarily.
Even though it was already at level three and my ice affinity rose by a little bit, it wasn't as useful as the paralysis eyes. An enemy could just melt the ice. After the appraisal, I heard two announcements from the system.
[Due to synergy between paralysis eyes, poison eyes, and freeze eyes, freeze eyes levels up!]
That explained the level 3. The next announcement was a better one though.
[Due to synergy between poison eyes and freeze eyes, new poison unlocked]
My next appraisal on poison eyes showed the new poison.
Poison eyes
Rank D-
level: 3
Mana use: 10/use
Requirements: dark affinity 20%, poison resistance level 3
Description: poisons target. Potency of poison increases with proficiency. Increases in rank can allow different types of poison to be used current types:
Basic poison: gradually lowers target vitality through contact or air-borne transmission, requires poison resistance level 2 to protect caster
Paralysis poison: due to possessing paralysis eyes, can cause breathing paralysis when inhaled, as well as lower vitality requires paralysis resistance level 2 to protect caster
Complex poison: quickly lowers target's vitality through contact, air-borne, or fomite transmission. Requires poison resistance level 3 to protect caster.
Decomposition potion: causes body part to start decomposing on contact. Does not work on undead monsters. Requires dark affinity 40%
petrification poison: petrifies body part of target. More petrification can be induced by higher synergistic levels
Blood freeze poison: freezes blood of target. Target must already be afflicted with poison. Requires freeze resistance Lv 3, ice affinity 40%
As the first adult goblin was already poisoned, it was perfect to use the new poison on. Using poison eyes again, the adult goblin's blood seemingly froze. It no longer moved; however, the first goblin almost slashed me in half! I was barely able to > the incoming >! Before I could retaliate, out of the corner of my eye, I saw the other goblin disappear. It left its frail sword, which I sold; an EXP shard; and 40mL of the pale blue potion, which I immediately used. I proceeded to have a tough sword battle with the remaining goblin. My > did not affect it, and I was unsure of what to try next. My HP was slowly >getting lower, and I was afraid. To give this battle my all, and so that I would not die, I tried using >. I quickly recited the chant that entered my mind
"I, Roberto, hereby borrow the authority of the heavens! Grant unto me the power of the soul, the sight which none other is allowed to see! The true soul of the enemy before me, in light and darkness, reveal yourself. By the authority of the heavens, I Roberto command the soul! Soul Search!"
As soon as I completed the chant, the adult goblin began looking translucent. In its stomach area, I saw an oval take shape, surrounded by a dark blue glow. The glow intensified, and I readied my final strike. I imbued the heavenly element into Blackmail, taking with it the last of my MP as I prepared for my final strike, a >. I pierced through the adult goblin's soul in front of me, and I began feeling dizzy. I don't remember what happened next, but I soon blacked out.

There for the first time, he will make true friends and find people he will come to see as family. But surrounded by creatures he thought only existed in tales and pressed by the Empire’s constant expansion, Jayce’s safety may be only an illusion. To survive a world fraught with danger Jayce will need to grow stronger with each new experience and rebuild his once forgotten house. ********************************************************************** Note: The story starts slow. Although there is more action as the story progresses, there is a fair amount of introspection and character introduction in the first 30 chapters. Jayce is the main character, however, other characters play a large role and the story is seen through multiple POV's. This is a draft, it is not a finished work. This is not a story that focuses on an OP MC who beats up on weaklings. At times there can be a fair amount of internal monologue. Some of that may be edited out when I rewrite the story. I decided to keep it in the draft because I think it is better to have too much material rather than too little when I edit. Constructive criticism is appreciated as it helps in the editing and rewriting process. Check out my other story Shattered Mind here

After a gruesome accident, John can't live a normal life anymore. While he's in a coma, he is offered an interesting proposal. If he can't live a normal life in the real world, maybe he could try living a good one in the virtual world. It sounds like an easy solution but things may not go as planned. Chapter 1 and 2 can be considered prologues but I advise you to read them to get a better understanding of both the characters and the world. The story picks up after chapter 4 so if you wish to read a story with a """"slightly"""" dark main character, please be patient. Warning! Some chapters may include : strong coarse language, violence, scenes that are suggestive of or depicting sexual intercourse, rape and ritualistic murders.
