《Crisis Zero》Ch.8 True Power

“What happened…right! Hanabi! Kyo! Hang in there! Wait…” Before me was a cave with a fountain flowing down over it, a light shone brightly towards me from within the cave. “Where am I?” I looked around to find myself in a jungle-like surrounding, birds flew in flocks over me as the sounds of cicadas reverberated around me. I decided to venture forward into the cave to search for the source of the light, as my body inched closer towards it, the air around me felt warmer as though it was embracing me in its “arms”. Upon entering the cave, there was a floating platform in the middle with glistening water around it, I leapt onto the platform with ease and before me was a stone tablet with an unrecognizable language written on it. Above the words was an imprint of a human hand, I raised my hand up and glanced at the imprint. “Well here goes nothing.” I placed my hand down onto the imprint and who would have known, it was a perfect fit.
The platform started to shake violently and started to sink below the waters, “Fuck! This must be a trap, how foolish of me!” Suddenly a voice echoed throughout the cavern, “Arthur…is that you?” A beautiful figure rose above the water, her long, azure hair grasps my attention as she inched closer towards me completely nude. “Miss…your clothes…please…” She placed her index finger over my lips and uses her other index finger to point towards the water, another platform rose slowly, in the center was a blade wedged in the middle of a rock. Even to a commoner, one can definitely tell that this sword was a one of its kind, it had a sapphire crystal in the center of its pommel whilst coated with gold and black leather as its grip. The cross guard was gold and majestically crafted with a ruby in the center, as the waterfall from outside the cavern stopped, the sun shone directly onto the sword reflecting its ray into my eyes.
“You are not Arthur, however you may be worthy of this blade since the tablet foreseen the prophecy and has reacted to your hand.” She signaled me towards the blade and I took a deep breath, I waddled my way through the waist-deep waters before reaching the sword. On the fuller of the blade, the words “EXCALIBUR” were etched in bright gold, “The legendary Excalibur? So I just have to pull the blade out right? Let’s do this!” I closed my eyes and took a deep breath in again before attempting to pull the blade out. I wrapped my fingers tightly around the grip and just as I was about the pull the sword out, the leather on the grip started wrapping around my right arm as the rock below the sword broke into a million pieces.

Before I knew it, the sword was in my palms as I clenched onto the grip of the blade tightly, “But I didn’t even…” The lady walked up towards me smiling, “No, the sword chose you, this is the second time I have seen this happen, now the legend of Arthur lives within you.” “Second? So the first must be Arthur huh?” The lady shook her head and laughed, “A decade ago, a man by the name of Siegfried entered this cavern as well, the blade chose him too but a few years later after Crisis Zero, he came back to me and return the blade saying, “He shall succeed me, no he must.” Do you happen to know this noble knight?” I shook my head of all the legends I heard, the name Siegfried never rings a bell. “Anyways Souta right? You have the power of Excalibur, a blade of light, a blade of justice. Where there is darkness, you shall be the light to give hope for others, go brave knight, save those dear to you!”
I regained consciousness, I was back at the alley where the Lightning warrior stood, Kyo was still behind me coughing out blood and Hanabi was still in the hands of the warrior. “That sword…” The warrior glanced at me with fear and disbelief, I raised my arms up only to discover the sword, Excalibur, in my grasp. “I see…” My eyes darted back onto the warrior and pointed Excalibur towards him, my arms started glowing bright as the blade lit up, “Cleanse the evil in this world, Excalibur!” An aura of gold light surrounded my body, I could feel my strength increasing and my body felt lighter, in a flash, I zoomed in front of the warrior before swinging my blade towards him with all my might. The attack was so quick he didn’t even have time to react, with one swoop, his head fell onto the pavement and rolled towards my feet. *thud* His body ensued as it collapsed onto the concrete floor, Hanabi quickly rushes towards Kyo as she chanted her healing magic to heal Kyo’s wounds.
“Princess attend to yourself first please…” *cough* *cough* Despite that, Hanabi continues focusing her healing on Kyo without a care for her own injuries. As I released my grip on Excalibur, it started to fade away into golden sparkles and the aura of gold around me disappeared. “What did I just do, what am I now? These powers…nevermind that…I have to attend to them first!” With Kyo in my arms, Hanabi and I started walking back home. “Souta…that sword…that power…how?” I looked at Hanabi and looked up to the sky, “I don’t know how I ended up where I was, but this sword, the Excalibur, it chose and called out to me.” Hanabi nodded and smiled, “The sword of light and compassion, she suits you.” I looked at her confused, “She? Wait the sword is a?” A golden light descended in front of me and there she stood with long blonde hair and gentle blue eyes, “Nice to meet you Master, I am Excalibur, surprised?” What in the world is going on…each day keeps getting more and more fucked up…urgh…

After reaching home and explaining what happened to Yukina and Misashi, I lay on my bed looking towards my window, Siegfried huh, wonder who that is? Instinctively I sat back up and booted up my laptop, “Siegfried… Nothing…” *knock* *knock* “Oh, come in!” Misashi opens up my door and enters my room, “I hope I’m not bothering you Souta.” I shook my head smiling to her, her face started blushing as she raised her hand to cover it. “Well…Hanabi told me about the sword, Excalibur. To be honest, I am really surprised, never have I ever seen a wielder of this legendary sword, Souta, in this world there are five legendary weapons each with their unique powers and strengths, now listen closely.” I crossed my legs and in my mind, I called out Excalibur who materializes into her human form and sits beside us.
“I’ll explain it to Souta on your behalf being a legendary weapon myself, I think I can explain this clearer. There are five weapons created by the gods above, Masamune, the cursed sword, a cut from this blade will kill almost anything that isn’t a celestial being in some cases, even certain celestial beings may die from its curse. Gae Bulg, a spear in Irish mythology once used by a warrior known as Cuchulainn, is a powerful weapon that gives its user enhanced strength, speed and awareness making he or she into the ultimate warrior. Gungnir, known as the spear of Odin, after his death, the spear was cast upon the human realm and was never seen again, those who possesses the spear possesses the strength of Odin and command lightning storms at will. Susanoo, in the form of a pendant called the Yasakani no Magatama, this god can be summoned by the user who wields this pendant. Susanoo is basically a living god turned into a weapon who wields the Kusanagi blade that is said to cut through almost anything and the Yata Mirror that is said to block and absorb any form of attack. Lastly, me! The bestest of the best of all weapons! I am the sword of Light, you experienced it just now, I enhance your senses and physical prowess based on your willpower and might of your heart! I know it sounds really weird but how strong I can make you is only limited by how determined and resolved you are! These all the five legendary weapons in this world but there is a rumor about a sixth one even I don’t know about, but trust me, you wouldn’t want to encounter it anytime soon…” *yawn* “I’m going back to the spirit realm to sleep, night-zies!” Excalibur fades away.
Misashi gets up and nods her head, “With Excalibur on our side, I am now more confident we can defeat the Red Crimson, Souta! I won’t hold back against you from now on during training, better prepare yourself!” With that Misashi leaves my room, despite all this, there was still one last question in my mind. Who is Siegfried? Maybe Excalibur knows, I’ll ask her tomorrow for now, I should go to bed…

Thief of Time
[Participant in the Royal Road Writathon challenge] Book 1: The Legend of Tot Synopsis: Claud Primus, a self-declared master thief, has a simple goal. To live forever. It's a rather easy task, for miraculous objects called lifestones are able to extend one's lifespan. These lifestones are best found in the treasuries of nobles, lovely resorts that Claud pays a visit to every so often. Unfortunately, one of those nightly visits go awry, and Claud is forced to escape with just a single lifestone and a box in hand. Normally, that's when things die down. The guards yawn, the gates close, and the night continues. But this time, the night isn't that forgiving. A dozen schemes result in the murder of someone important, and with a convenient scapegoat — Claud — at hand, it doesn't take long for him to be framed as a heinous criminal, wanted for the indirect murder of someone high up...and it just gets worse from there. Book 2: The Moon Lords' Rise Synopsis: As ordered chaos sweeps across Licencia, Claud leaves for Julan Barony, intent on making some profits there. Accompanied by the erstwhile heiress of Julan, a fellow member of the Moon Lords, the two plot against the barony's wealth...as well as a promise to bring about its downfall. Meanwhile, back home, the Moon Lords have busied themselves with digesting their gains. Eyes, however, are beginning to turn to this proverbial fish in a small pond. The fishermen are coming. When they cast their hook, what will Dia and the others do? Book 3: Murders under the Moons Synopsis: In the sleepy town of Nachtville, where Claud and Lily are forced to stop at, a set of nasty murders occurs. Victims scream out in fright, before a spear falls from the sky to end their suffering. Cowed and cautious, the master thief and his partner slink in the shadows, their objective that of home... A new task, however, has fallen on Dia. With a trusty helper at her side, she has to set off towards Nachtville itself, to solve the mystery Claud had abandoned. Faced with an enemy whose sole skillset is geared towards killing, how will they succeed? And what dark secrets will they find? Book 4: In the Dark of the Moons Synopsis: The year has ended. The four months of the full moons will soon be followed by two months of the new moons. Duke Istrel's ascension is around the corner. Amidst this political upheaval, Count Nightfall, Licencia's strongest defender, has been called away. The Moon Lords' largest task yet — to protect Licencia in the absence of its ruler — has begun. And yet, trouble is unrelenting. A distinguished personage, one that Claud fears, has been found dead in the county, his brains dug out and his body disemboweled. The inquisitors of the White Church have been dispatched to investigate and apprehend the murderer...as well as the person behind this puppet. Tormented by a call to fight, Claud directs his eyes out of the city, looking for the puppetmaster. Skulking in the shadows, the master thief will soon confront his greatest foe yet. A foe just like him. Book 5: Moonlit Tides and Darkened Seas Synopsis: A new era has begun. For the privileged, the sands of time dribble away for every passing moment, counting down to the arrival of a entity of mythical proportions. The night now harbours shadows and fog, and operatives of the Moons and the Dark clash in shadow. Claud, as usual, is investigating a spate of nasty disappearances in the city, but little does he know what these disappearances truly mean. And yet, a tide is coming. When it finally breaks, what will he do? Book 6: Secrets in Shadow Synopsis: The person behind a strike that would enter the annals of history flees his home, bringing with him the person closest to his heart into a new land and into a new world. Having left Istrel for the first time in his life, the two of them attempt to settle down in foreign lands, only to be caught in the middle of hostilities between two mighty powers grappling for dominion. Yet, none of that has anything to do with him. Following his desires, Claud eventually makes his way to the fabled Celestia Ruins, a fragment of another world. Bearing witness to truths he cannot yet comprehend, he returns from his exploration, a small break away from the machinations of destiny. One thing, however, is for certain. Destiny will not wait for him. Book 7: Reddest Rage Synopsis: Destiny churns on, heedless of mortal machinations, and Claud watches as the battlegrounds between the Moons and the Dark are drawn up. With the forces of the great Dark occupying Lostfon, Claud comes to a startling realisation — that he may have very well be a murderer of heinous proportions. Grappling with that realisation, he struggles to prepare for his Second Tutorial... Back in Istrel, Dia finds herself confronted with a perennial truth. Even in a time of writhing destiny, the machinations between nobles never cease to end — and unfortunately for her, the group once known as the Moon Lords are forced into dealing with a petty squabble between two counts. What they didn't account for, however, was the startling discovery they would soon make... And the shadow of the Red God's Holy Son behind it all. Book 8: Darkness Descends Synopsis: Nightmares haunt the horizon as Claud sinks and awakens from a seeming dream. What was once illusory begins to play out before him, in a way he cannot imagine. Dia, forced to wield arms, begins and ends a battle that opens her eyes to the vast dangers that lurk in this sundered world. Under the banner of humanity and divinity, she beholds the silent, forgotten protectors of Orb...but there is no forgetting the battle between the divinities. The Dark descends, the Moons writhe, and the horns of war blow once more. But this is not their battle. Not yet. Book 9: Moons Muster Synopsis: As more and more events fall into place, Claud finds himself desperate. Not for himself, but for the person who has turned into his world. Armed with the knowledge of a certain future, he approaches the only person that could possibly help him in his time of need, trading information for a promise of help. With that as solace, he returns to the grim task of understanding and seeking, revisiting an ancient, shattered fragment of another world...unleashing changes that he never knew was possible. Back in Istrel, Dia and the others must now navigate around a familiar spirit, who seeks to investigate the death of his master's Bearer. With them as prime suspects, the Seekers of Life must move carefully...but the Coloured Gods are not the only divinities eyeing them closely. The Moons, bristling from repeated defeats, are looking for new recruits, and the Seekers of Life are prime cannon fodder. Above all, destiny marches on, the unfeeling clock a warning to all. The Trial of Aeons will soon arrive. Book 10: Destiny Divine Synopsis: ??? Release frequency: one every few days or something, I guess. Sara's (not really) Fabulous System Armageddon, Book I: The World Ended at Rush Hour
Planet Earth, Monday, October 7th, 2019. 18:30 * * On a fateful day, during rush hour in eastern North America, Heavens and Hell crumbled and fell from their higher dimension on Earth. It came from "above" but not the same above we regard in our tridimensional Euclidean reasoning. No, it came from "above" as in from a higher dimension. Bits and pieces of those places fell on Earth from all directions, this time in tridimensional Euclidean space. Satellites, the ISS, and space debris all were wiped clean from orbit. Even those that didn't crash with the falling debris were knocked off orbit by the shockwaves. On the ground, power distribution lines were disrupted and most power facilities were left abandoned by their dead staff. Most of these had emergency shutdown routines that engaged in a few days. Some others had a survivor among their staff that followed protocol and activated their SCRAM switches, stopping the power plant. Long-distance communication disappeared the internet along with it. The world was plunged into technological darkness. Nine hundred and ninety-nine out of every thousand human beings perished immediately in the pulse of magical energy from the torn spatial boundary. Spirits were rent asunder and vanished, their fate neither salvation nor damnation, only oblivion. The criteria used for this culling was latent magic potential. It didn't discriminate against education, gender, age, or ethnic group. But of the around seven million survivors, most would meet their doom moments later. Those on moving vehicles, like the ones driving on highways suddenly had to contend with high-speed uncontrolled cars and trucks driven by corpses. Trapped in their vehicles and helpless, they became part of the long snake of crushed metal. Very few survived. Those in the air or out in the sea were alone and probably unable to control their rides. Airplanes crashed, and ships kept their course or drifted away, depending on their autopilot. Several ended their own lives in utter despair after seeing their loved ones die in front of them. Another large group would die at the hands of other survivors. Violence and aggression became the norm. Only a few sparse pockets of not-so-sane survivors managed to band together and cooperate for the sake of mutual survival. The sole survivor in a five-over-one apartment building in Georgia, a girl became the keystone to humanity's survival. Sara's fabulous System Apocalypse had just started. She has only one remark. It was anything but fabulous. * * Updates every Wednesday and Sunday.
