《Love at First Theft》7. Steal the Team

I didn't actually expect it to work. But there he was.
"H-hey Flynn," I could barely fumble out a few words. It was Mei's idea to stick out a bit with the hoods and to knock out the guards so if they were here, they would be suspicious. This whole plan was assuming that they actually showed up. And they did.
"Wow, you actually remembered my name. Last time you gave the impression that you wouldn't," Flynn spoke as if he knew I was going to be here all along. He spoke clearly and concisely so I could here him over the crowd, the complete opposite of how I was babbling. When we met before, I kept my composure, but I have no idea why now is different. "Is this the thing that's better than that 'crummy old ring' that you were going to steal," he whispered the word "steal" so no one around us could hear.
This was a complete role-reversal. Before he was the infatuated baffoon and I was the calm and collected one, but now he was the one that was completely unruffled while I stood there like an idiot.
Is it because I wasn't sure he was going to show up? But how did he know I was going to be here? Did he assume that I was the one in the hood? There were too many questions and not enough time. While my mind was running a mile a minute, he took out his phone and checked it. He swiftly took hold of my arm and escorted me out of the crowd and down the stairs to where the security room was. Right in front of it was Mei, Aaron, Max, all of them looking quite astonished, and a guy wearing a suit similar to Flynn's.

"Flynn. This is Mei, Aaron, and Max. They are also theives and they're partners with that girl Ash, which is who I'm assuming that is," the guy gestured at me. "Ah, I guess I'm being rude. The name's Blake. Blake Kingsley," he did a slight bow and all I could do was stand there in shock.
So Rhett's hunch was right. They are partners.
"Y-you're Blake Kingsley? The Blake Kingsley?"
"Wow. I didn't know that I was that well-known." He blushed and looked bashful.
In response, Flynn rolled his eyes at him. "Oh shut up."
"My, my! So mean," Blake retorted.
He rolled his eyes again while Mei, Max, Aaron, and I were standing there dumbfounded.
They act so nonchalant. They seem like they're used to this. And Blake seems less powerful looking than expected.
"Anyway, why are you guys here?" asked Blake.
We can't tell him that we are here to meet Flynn again! That seems too... stalkerish.
As I was internally panicing, Mei stepped forward and said a reasonable response that made enough sense which was:
"We're here to steal the statue."
Duh. I'm stupid.
"So are we, so this is quite the predicament. You know what? Why don't you steal it 'cause we took the ring from you. It's only gentlemanly," Blake offered.
"I took the ring, not we," Flynn mumbled, correcting him.
"Yeah, yeah, yeah. It doesn't matter," He told Flynn. Then he directed a question at us. "So, you in or not? I mean, it's only good for you guys, it seems to good to be true! We could easily steal this probably by tommorow, so decide quickly. Though, why wouldn't you agree?"
"I think this idea is fine," Aaron chimed in.
"Ditto," Max agreed.

Mei sighed. "There's not really a choice here. If we disagree, they'll get the statue."
Blake smiled, even though this was disadvantages towards him. Flynn, on the other hand, looked like hand was contemplating something. Then he said, "What about a third option?" Everyone looked at him with confused expressions.
"What, nobody takes it and we all leave empty handed?" Blake said sarcastically.
"No, that we team up."
Everyone "Ooh"-ed and immediately felt stupid for not thinking of that.
"This is probably the better idea," said Mei. "Both parties get what they want."
Everyone nodded and then it was decided. We're combining teams.
I can't believe that we're partnering up with Flynn and Blake Kingsley! It's like a dream come true.

Computers are directly connected to their brains, creating a nightmarish state of absolute control, every action is monitored and harshly judged. Perhaps worst of all, the victim's perception of reality itself is controlled. A system of social credit hangs over everyone's heads. If you want to survive you will need to pick a company and stay loyal to that brand. But it goes beyond that, because each corporation has been infiltrated and taken over by forces that are interested in more than just profit. He goes where he wants and does what he wants, moving from one augmented reality to the next, always looking for the next score.
