18 - Meaningless End
Another figure appeared from the wall. She just popped up really. I did not see any entrance forming or anything of the sorts. The new woman did not look like a green alien like the others present here, on the contrary... I would dare to say she is the most magnificent creature I've seen in this world just yet.
In contrast with the other green beings around me, she was white. White dress, white hair, clear silver skin, white eyes, also pupiless. Fair silver with a tint of pink lips. And she was divine.
Her loose long white hair was in constant movement, like there was a perpetual wind blowing up just on her hair. Her almost completely transparent white dress followed the imaginary wind too, with slow movements up and down
...No, that's not an accurate description. it's not as strong or brute as the wind's movements.... It's more like water, like she, and only she, is underwater. The movements are slow and elegant, maybe like a slow motion jellyfish?
Her mana was so strong and condensed that it was visible to the eye. Strong enough that even me with my extremely poor knowledge of this world and mana could recognize that this was mana around her.
I can actually feel her all the way over here. I have never felt anyone up until now. By 'feel' I mean… It is hard to explain how I 'feel' her. It's like an extra sense, something comparable to touch or sight, but more abstract. I can just naturally feel her presence, her mana. Her existence.
She was walking towards me, but her foot did not actually touch the ground, she was floating above it. I'm questioning my sanity, is she even real?
…
She has to be, the green woman stopped nosing around and all looked at her. They all knelt before her.
"Mother..."
They said as she approached.
THAT'S MOTHER?? Really?! Like, Mother the giant tree? That's her?
Not that hard to accept actually… To be fair, she gives the same godly vibes as Mother, I can easily believe she is the personification of Mother's will or something.
"What is the result of your analysis?" Even her voice… is heavenly.
"She was an Oracle, and like us, able to perfectly harmonize with your mana. But, without the genetic modifications needed to sustain the power... her body could not handle the strength of the mana circuit forming within her. The seedling was a success, but her body was too weak to handle the entirety of your mana, Mother."

"How? How did she become an Oracle? She was created just like all the others. Random settings, random abilities, random physical condition… like she should… so, why?"
"We don't know, Mother."
"She is the third case… and we still don't know how that happens or how to identify them before the seedling?"
"Sorry, Mother."
"That's not your fault you know? That's on me, I created her. And the other two before her as well. I'm just… I was just hoping that you would be able to identify the cause… identify if it's all just unlucky, accidental rare chance… Maybe discover how to identify them before this disaster happens… Receiving this many young lives on the same day is just too sad." Mother was crying at this point. Thin continuous streams of water flowing down her face and vanishing before falling down the ground. Even her crying was beautiful… wtf.
"They deserved longer lives, yes, but it is an honor for all of your children to be reunited with you, Mother"
"We may teach them as such, but we also know that every living being wants to live, that's just natural. And the lives lost today? They were just infants. Their deaths were just meaningless." The aliens could not refute her on this.
"Did you finish your investigation on her?" She asked after an entire minute or two of total silence in the room. All just looking down on the floating unconscious child in front of them.
"Yes, Mother."
"Then you can go now"
"Yes, Mother. " They left.
They slowly walked to the same hole they came from. The entrance closed up and now we were alone. Just me, Drei and Mother.
She dispelled the mana cocoon and made Drei's unconscious body float to her embrace.
"I'm sorry little child. I cannot give you more time, I cannot save you. But I promise to learn from you" Drei began to dissolve into mana particles and enter Mother's body as she continued to cry.
Just like that… my second host is gone. Anticlimactic. Beautiful, touching even, but Anticlimactic. I was hoping that Drei would be special since she… you know, exploded mana and all that. But nooooo…
Not even a day with her, and she's gone. All that work to sync with her memories, to know her life until now… and she is gone mere hours after I'm assigned to her.
Of course I will continue. I want to see more of this world. I want to know more about Mother. If there was one thing that made the whole incident barely worth it was the chance to meet Mother. Was it not for this whole mass I would never have met Mother.

Mother is truly a goddess.
Look, if I was presented with the chance to exchange old Drei's life for the chance to meet Mother, I would have never chosen to kill Drei. But given that this was inevitable, an accident that not even Mother could prevent, who am I to do something? I can only think about the good side, which was to meet Mother.
YES Alexa, yes.
...
…
…
This is taking longer than last time…
...
Finally!
I can feel my connection with Drei being broken just like last time, which is weird because… she did not even exist anymore, in the physical sense because.. she was like… all dust and already being consumed by Mother… But here I am feeling the connection with her being broken.
Not like last time, my vision went black for a couple of seconds in between my connection with Drei breaking and a new one being made.
…
No longer in the cave. This place feels a bit familiar, but… This is a room extremely similar to the one Drei di Adel used to sleep at. Yet.. Not the same room.
My new host, hopefully for a bit longer this time, is Zwei. Zwei di Mila.
I remember one Mila… I remember this name being mentioned before… When was it?
Aaaaahhh.. I'm sure I heard this name… I think… uhmmmmmm…
Wasn't she the most powerful person of Adel's generation… or something along those lines? Yes yes… that sounds right.
I don't even know why I'm trying so hard to remember this.. It won't even make a difference, and I'll get to know her anyways. Back to the important stuff.
My new host is Zwei di Mila. She's good at following orders and communicating with others. But… But she is always the last.
Zwei is always the last one to finish every training. She was the last one to be able to master assisted Seontto, she was the last one to leave the house and play outside. She was the last to complete the training of solo-Seontto. She was the last to learn Chess… Always in last.
She has the most friends outside the household tho… that must count to something right? Friends and connections are extremely important.
Although she is always the last, I'm not sure that she is slow or dumb. She is just slower than the others here. Mila is an extremely good teacher, very competent and very strict. Mila lost a child in the beginning of the Seontto training, but it was not her fault, just bad luck. Aside from that accident Mila has been extremely successful in her teaching.
Her children are exceptionally good. Even Zwei being the last of her children to complete every training, Zwei is also better than both Drei's I have memories of. It is just that Mila's children are too good.
There are only 3 children alive. Einer, Zwei and Vier. Drei is also the one who died… is it a curse or something? Every Drei I know is dying early in life. Out of the 3, Zwei is definitely the worse one, but if you compare her to the others "normal" children, she is gifted. Of course she does not know that and is extremely sad because of it.
Aside from her geniality that goes unnoticed because she has two monsters as sister and a bigger monster as a teacher, her life was absolutely normal and followed the pattern up until now. She just finished every training earlier than normal and was free for more time. Of course, she does not know that.
I didn't really get any new information from her that I already didn't know before. I was expecting to learn how the seedling ritual should have gone if no mana-bomb exploded in it killing a few children, but she doesn't know either.
I completely forgot that the children were completely out of it during the ritual. The only reason I know what happened after they passed out is because I'm kind of a separated entity and all that. Zwei has no memories after they got 'drugged'. Damn, Zwei only has memories of the very beginning, she remembers up until they are placed in the specific spot. After that is just… blank.
I know more than her… what a shame. I won't ever get to experience that again since she was already seeded or something…. That's a real shame.
Even more remorseful is the fact that she is sleeping now, and will probably keep sleeping for a few more days. I have absolutely nothing to do until she wakes up!
How boring.

Vast Asleep
The story of Kingard the Binder in the aftermath of Broken This short story is the epilogue of Broken, the second book of the Chronicles of Mother's Gate series. It’s a great follow-up to the novel, a bonus story that adds extra layers but is set apart from the full-length narrative. Vast Asleep follows the story of Kingard, who finds himself caught in a world called Mother's realm, bathed in glowing light but strangely stuck in place. He encounters his greatson Varyan there, and learns that his experiences are likely dreams. As he grows more accustomed to the loving realm around him, Kingard remembers fear and trepidation about the face of the world, and he loses contact with his companion. This story answers the question, Is Kingard really dead? with a tentative no, and new mysteries brewing. It also raises the question, What's happening while he's awake? and includes an excerpt from the sister story Ride Awake, about Kingard's situation with the Colkh'rak. Praise for Tales of the Known World Bookends: Loved it. The difference between the two stories is great! The difference between the epilogue and prologue is astounding. So much light and love in the first story. You feel safe reading it. Healing. The second, so much darkness, pain and despair. The choice of vocabulary is awesome and makes an impact. And this set of short stories ties the two books together so well. -- Dana V. of Texas ★★★★★

Sanguis
In a world inhabited by vampires, various factions are vying for dominance, whether through wars or grueling tournaments. In the midst of the conflict, two unsuspecting humans become caught in the battle. Note: My first story on here, I wanted to try writing a story with battles and leveling up, the kind of story where a character starts at the bottom and world their way up. I hope this story is a good chance to see what works and try out a few different ideas I’ve had.

The End
There are five days left. The End is a miracle 10,000 years in the making that will free all from the confines of the world. The gods will soon be born. There is nothing that can be done about this. Not a webnovel, but a screenplay, submitted as my dissertation for my screenwriting degree. Sort of experimental. I have learned that I dislike writing screenplays, but all the same, I thought I'd post it anyway so it's at least worth something that way.
