《Vienna's Game》Chapter 13

I stared at the little girl, she seemed unnerved for several minutes. I watched her movements carefully. I braced myself in case she does anything. It felt like an hour had passed before she lifted her head and spoke.

“Is there anything wrong?”

“Why is that?”

“I was waiting for you to reply.”

“What do you mean?”

“I wanted to know if you wanted to go back on topic or not.”

“Ehh…?”

“Ehh…?”

“…”

“…”

“What were we talking about again?”

“We were talking about how the world was going to end due to stagnation.”

“Yes, that, how could I forget. Ehehe…”

Although she didn’t turn her head, I could feel that she was glaring at me and that her eyes were piercing through my soul.

“So…umm, how do we save this world?”

“Save… the… world…?”

“I’m assuming since you told me how the world was going to end that you want me to save it.”

“There is no saving this world, there is the only destruction the I can foresee.”

“I-I… then what was the point of telling me?”

“But there is a way to save your students and yourself…”

“T-that seems a bit selfish. What if I want to save everyone in this world?”

“Then you’re a fool for believing so.”

“I-I understand,” I replied as a bit nail. “So, what if it makes me a fool though? I am onl-I used to be human and lived up most of my life to being human until now.”

“I don’t understand.”

“What do you mean, you don’t understand? Aren’t you… what are you anyway?”

“Me? As I said earlier, I am a child created by God herself, a mere observer if you will.”

“An observer?” I stood in silence contemplating as I stared at the back of her head. “But as an observer, why are you intervening?”

“Inter…vening?”

“Yes, intervening, isn’t your job as an observer to just watching like have been since your creation.”

“Since my creation… I wasn’t always an observer; it was just a new role for after…” She paused for several seconds. “After my original role was no longer possible.”

“Your original role?”

“That is for a discussion for another time… tell me, Kana, why were you born?”

“Why was I born?”

“Yes.”

“Why I was born… I guess I was born because my dad one day decided to **** my mom.”

“Please be serious here.”

“Fine.” I took a deep breath. “I was born to serve my students.”

“To serve your students?”

“Yes, it is the role of a teacher to teach their students how to live a proper and fulfilling life, if our work culture sucks.”

“Your work culture?”

“Let’s just say that back in my old world, companies would find ways to work you without respecting your time.”

“I… see… but what does it mean to ‘serve’ your students.”

“As I said before I wanted them to live proper and fulfilling lives. I want them to cherish their lives and to cherish others. This is why I want to save everyone in this world.”

“That belief is naïve.”

“It may be naïve, but it is the naivety that makes it is easy to believe that what I am is doing the right thing.”

“Then how do you plan on saving everyone in the world?”

“That is dependent on what you have to say?”

“Very well. I shall tell you, but do you mind if I ask you some questions first.”

“Do I have a choice on this matter?”

“I did just ask you.”

“But it could be one of those situations where you’re just asking out of politeness and I have to answer ‘yes’ just so I can give you control of the conversation.”

“What?”

“I am a teacher; I know that tactic.”

“You sound a bit ruthless as a teacher.”

“Do you know how much of a pain in the ass it is to deal with those hormonal teenagers?”

“N-no, I-I do not.”

“Exactly my point, I swear some of those kids are problem children. But… But I do care deeply about them.”

“Then my first question is this, would you be willing to kill one person to save a million, or would you let a million people die, just to save one person.”

“I-I…”

“You have to answer this question, or else you’re going to be stuck in this dreamworld forever.”

“Dreamworld?”

“Yes… this is all in your head.”

“In… my head? Wait am I going insane?”

“This is also reality too, which is why I am asking you such a deep question… so Ms. Oshino, what will you do?”

“I-I would kill one person to save a million.”

“I see.”

“Would you kill that person if it was one of your students?”

“One of my… students?”

“Yes, one of your students.”

“I mean… it’s a million people from another world or a student from my original world… I guess I would still save a million people.”

“You seemed to need to think about it, why is that?”

“You seem to have misunderstood something about me, I want to make my students live a proper and fulfilling life because I failed to do so. Which is why… which is why if I had a choice, I would rather sacrifice myself rather than my student.”

She moved her head down.

“I was about to ask you that… would you sacrifice yourself if you could save all your students, but it seems like you reached that conclusion already.”

“By the way, you did mention that my students and I could survive, but why the sudden need to sacrifice?”

“Simple, since you want to save as many people as possible, I simply rethought my calculations to fit in what your desire.”

“W-what.”

“Let’s just say, like you, I also possess skills, it's just that my skills are a bit more exclusive to me, and me only.”

“Is there a possibility of me gaining those skills of yours?”

“But didn’t I just say…”

“Nothing is impossible when you’re an epic gamer.”

“What?”

“What? Is there an issue?”

She sighed.

“I guess not.”
