《Not A Fairy Tale》Arc 1 - Chapter 14

POV: Altair Oberon Lyrius

I still remembered that day as if it was yesterday. Almost two months had passed but it felt like no time at all had passed since then. I still remembered how she walked towards me awkwardly, how I pretended to stare at one of my two daggers instead of at her.

At her golden eyes, fair features, her long teal coloured hair as it swayed slightly in the wind, the two bumps on her forehead that would soon grow to be antlers, which I found attractive just thinking about for some reason, probably the wood elven blood in me...

I still remembered how she stood before me, smiling at me awkwardly and me smiling back, hoping my smile wasn't as awkward as hers. And then when she said those words... I remember nearly falling over from shock. I had expected many things but definitely not that. And now I remember that day as the happiest day in my lifes.

I still remembered the way she told me that she loved me since that day over four years ago. My legs felt weak, my breathing got heavier, my heart beat faster and I became lightheaded. Not that I thought about it I think I loved her for a long time, probably even longer than she had loved me...

The more I repeated the words love or loved in my head the more unrealistic it sounded. I mean I was just some loser that did the dirty work for some gang and then got reincarnated into some fantasy fairy tale world where apparently everything just either goes my way or doesn't really harm me in the long run... At this point, this might as well be a novel or something...

"Everything alright?" someone suddenly asked, taking me away from my thoughts.

I moved my head slightly, feeling her hair rubbing against my cheek as I looked down at Alyra whose head was resting on my shoulder while my head was resting on hers. Together we were looking at the lake, the same lake I had fought the magical black fish in. I took a deep breath.

"Nothing, just... thinking about some things," I responded.

She just made a hmm sound and we continued to stare at the light blue lake which was reflecting the light of the sun as it always did. But no matter how many evenings we spent here, just looking at the lake and not even talking to one another... it never got boring, I never grew tired of it... because she was here, here with me. I took another deep breath and listened to the wind blowing through the leaves of the tree we were leaning against, I listened to her rhythmic breathing and the rustling of the bushes behind us.

Wait... why are the bushes behind us rustling? In a split second my magic mark spread over my body and I activated [Predator's Instinct]. I felt a slight presence behind us, in the bushes, it was a presence I knew quite well. I sighed and turned my head so I could see the bushes behind us. Sticking out were two long, sharp ears of a light brown colour. I sighed even louder, trying to signal him that he should leave but he only crept closer to us.

"I swear to..." I mumbled under my breath as I took a small stone from the ground, deactivated my magic mark and activated the warp mark. The black-dark green smoke surrounded and consumed the stone and only seconds later it dropped on Ilmar's head with a loud bong sound.

"Argh! What was that for?!" he called out as he was rubbing his head.

"You really think you didn't deserve that?" I asked, holding back a smirk as I watched the tears in his eyes grow bigger, trying to hold back a smirk.

"Of course I didn't deserve that!" Ilmar called out loudly.

Alyra moved away from me a little so she could turn toward her brother. She looked him straight in his golden eyes with hers that were the same colour.

"What do you want?" she asked in a serious tone.

"I just wanted to take a look at what my dear little sister and best friend in the whole wide world are doing right now... as it turns out it's the same thing you two do every day... boring if you ask me, anyway, father asked for you-" he pointed to his sister "-wants to talk to you about something, I dunno, you'll have to ask him about it." Ilmar shrugged.

Alyra let out a loud sigh, leaned toward me, gave me a kiss, making my heart jump just as much as it did the first time, and got up from the ground.

"I'll be back as soon as I can," she said, smiling at me, but I only half-listened, my mind still focused on the kiss.

Her lips were soft and slightly wet, it felt warm, something I had never really experienced in my prior life... I looked after her as she left, her long teal hair swaying with every step she took.

"Hey Alt, you there?" Ilmar asked me, waving his hand in front of my face.

"Yeah yeah," I replied, slightly annoyed.

"What? You two do the same thing every day anyway," Ilmar said, sitting down beside me.

"It's special," I replied, looking towards the lake, its light blue water reflecting the sun.

"How?" Ilmar asked.

"It's not something you can explain just like that... it's just special," I said.

"If you say so," Ilmar said.

For a few seconds, there was silence...

...

...

...

"So... what does your father want to talk about with her?" I asked.

"As I said, I don't know," Ilmar responded.

"And you expect me to believe that?" I asked.

"..."

I raised an eyebrow and looked at him, his nose twitched. There it is...

"I really don't know." His nose twitched again.

I raised my eyebrow even higher.

"Alright, alright, fine, I'll tell you," Ilmar said. "It's about you two. He wants to know whether or not this whole thing is actually serious or not..."

"What? Why?" I asked.

"Why do you think? It's because she's his precious daughter and you're the only son of another of the great families. As far as any of us know there has never been a case like this... partially because it used to be forbidden by the wood elven council, although that was during the blood-wood wars..." Ilmar explained.

Right... the blood-wood wars and the wood elven council, an organization made by the five great families that all mistrusted each other at the time and wanted to limit the power of the other families during the wars between the blood elves and the wood elves... according to history it worked... although it resulted in the Lyrius family sacrificing most of its members to wipe out the blood elves. A lot of old history we learned in class... back when I still attended but hey, stuff like that is actually interesting compared to the history of my old world, simply because this one has magic.

"But don't worry, it'll be fine," Ilmar reassured me. "I mean... Alyra might actually destroy the village if dad tells her to break up with you..." Ilmar looks surprisingly a little scared.

"Did she do something like that before?" I asked.

"She pretty much destroyed half our house when she didn't get something she wanted about ten years ago... and that was before she could use magic."

"..."

"..."

"Remind me to never make her angry," I said.

Ilmar put a hand on my shoulder," Don't worry. I'll clean up afterwards."

"Oh shut it," I said, slapping him across the head.

Both of us began laughing as we watched the sun slowly set behind the tops of the trees.
