《With the Power of the SUN!》Chapter 9 - Anti Climatic

The spire sparked, and energy jumped around it as it began to shut down abruptly. Hyrum and everyone else began feeling the effects of the machine as they started to float upwards ignoring gravity. Hyrum and Henry’s momentum caused them to float towards the door while spinning off-axis as they went.
“Woah. What is happening? Get me down from here,” Hyrum looked around as he floated to the door. The other people were floating as well. Some were able to stop the effect by holding onto objects. “Henry grab the doorsill in front of us and then grab me. We got to get out of here.”
“Give me a minute. I can’t seem to move quite right in this zero-gravity space.”
Henry waited for himself to twist around into position before reaching out and grabbing the upper door sill. With one hand he grabbed it and tried to reach out his other hand, but Hyrum was out of reach.
“I need you to get closer to me.”
“How am I supposed to do that?” he said as he hung upside down.
“Throw something away from yourself and you will go in the opposite direction. Didn’t you learn about this in school?”
“Sorry but ‘How to Float in Zero Gravity While Escaping Capture’ was not one of my core classes in school. It would have been quite useful though.”
“Just throw something towards the spire.”
“Here it goes.” Hyrum tossed his shoe after getting it off his foot which caused him to float towards Henry.
Henry grabbed Hyrum’s arm and pulled them down and through the door. The anti-gravity field extended a bit further away from the building. Henry pushed Hyrum towards the normal area near the ground before going himself. Hyrum rolled on the ground before getting up. Henry landed much easier but still stumbled as he got on his feet.

“Let’s get out of here,” said Henry.
“Yeah let’s do that. Lead the way why don’t you.”
Henry took the lead again and led them away from the flashing warning lights that had already started to form a crowd. He led them along the same pathway until they reached the stairway. From there Hyrum took the lead through the entrance area and out of the magnetic field farm.
“That was much quicker than I expected. Did you get scared away,” said Liam as the pair entered the base.
“Actually, we got all the stuff and did not have to go searching in whatever restricted areas you were talking about,” said Hyrum.
“That’s no fun. You would have liked it. The magnet beams do funny things to your insides or so I have heard. But then they kill you of course.”
“We did mess with a gravity spire though. That was pretty fun and only felt dangerous,” said Hyrum.
“Oh, those things. No way. I love those. I assume you pulled the proton tanks from them?”
“Yeah we got a fresh one too,” said Henry as he lifted the tank he was holding.
“That is great as well. Having a full tank should mean that we can power our little light show for a bit longer and with more juice.”
“Here are the things we got for you if you want to go through them.”
Hyrum and Henry dropped their things and items. Liam started collecting them and moved them to his workshop area.
“You two being done early means that I can get started on setting things up earlier. Maybe I can finish it all before Benny gets back. She is going to be so thrilled.”
“I’m sure she will,” said Hyrum. “Is there anything we can do to help?”

“No. No. No. You two are all good. I will let you know if I need anything, but I would rather be left undisturbed while I finish this. You two can go do whatever just don’t make too much noise in the other room and don’t get into any trouble. Especially you Hyrum.”
“I will keep my troublemaking to a minimum.”
“Good now go.” He ushered them out and closed the door on them.
“What do you think he is jerry-rigging in there,” said Henry.
“No idea. With the two energy canisters, you can make some pretty powerful stuff. I’ll just be glad when this is all over so I can go back to lazing around for another long while.”
“Are you sure that is all you want to do?”
“What do you mean?”
“I mean I heard what you did at the last place and how you broke into the Lithium Tower. You have a real knack for it. Are you sure all you want to do is bore yourself to death every day while mooching off me and occasionally working?”
“I’m not sure I will have to get back to you on that. Generally, people dislike when I break in and steal stuff or I am loitering around. It is also not quite as fun if I am not at least close to being caught. It raises the stakes you know. It all depends on what the future holds and how this solar flare sun destroying business turns out.”
“Consider it at least. Upgrading yourself does have its perks you know. If you want to throw yourself into danger some more there are plenty of dangerous areas to find in the upper ranked areas.”
“I will think about it.”
“That is all I ask.”
