POV: Vile
The princess finally exited out of the dorm, she asked if we could get to class early and I had no problem with that. We walked to her first class which was advance training; there were a few students who were already seated when we walked in.
“Yana!
“Beth!
The two girls ran towards each other and hugged, they talked about some things before the girl named Beth turned her head at me.
“Hello my name is Beth it’s nice to meet you, Vile is it?
I gave her a nod.
“Sorry Beth Vile doesn’t trust any students right now.
“Its fine I only been you best friend for like forever. Sob* sob*
“Hehe come on Beth let’s take our seats I think class is about to start.
The girl’s walked to the middle row of seats and sat beside each other, I sat on the window seal overlooking the classroom. Students began to fill in seat and the teacher walked in.
“Good morning class! My name is Professor Tor and I am your advance training class teacher, in this class you will mostly fight and spar with each other. I will teach you combat and help guide you, now any questions?
No one in the class spoke up.
“Good now it seems we have a few new faces, please go around and introduce yourselves.
People started going around telling their name and stuff they like to do. I was looking out the window not giving a care in the world when I felt magic heading in my direction. Naturally a rune formed and shielded me from a fireball.
“I see you can use rune magic my young friend, that’s very rare and you seem to be proficient at it. You’re not a student here judging by your outfit, so would you mind telling us you name?

The class was bewailed at why the teacher would all of a sudden create a fire ball and throw it to the back of the class. The students turned around to see me staring back as my rune went away from blocking that fireball. My red eyes show brightly because my head was turned from the sun giving shadow to my face.
“I am nobody. I said and turned toward the window looking out again.
“Well young man you’re not supposed to be here and I’m getting mad at the disrespect you are showing me.
That’s when princess Yanna stood up.
“Teacher he is my bodyguard\servant
“Yanna you do not have to take up for him, now sit down.
“But professor he..
“Yana I will handle this.
The princess sat down and looked at me worried. Students where asking why is a little boy like me a bodyguard for the princess of Vermont, she must be lying.
“My young friend you have 10 seconds to get down from there and leave this class.
He started to count down but he never made it to 9. I shot forward and kicked his chest causing him to crash through the chalk board and through the walls to the next class.
“Professor Tor what is the meaning of this! A woman asked in a fit of rage.
The class is now looking wide eyed at me as I stretch my muscles, walking through the hole in the wall I see the teacher is now starting to get up. He chuckled.
“I like you kid, hit first and laugh later I always say.
He wipes a bit of blood from his mouth. Fire starts to form around him and gathers on his arms. He turns to the other teacher.
“Go get the headmaster! He lunges towards me.
He hits my rune shield and it sends him flying back. I take out my dagger and jump in the air.
“ let’s play my favorite game of cut and bleed professor. I giggled stabbing both daggers in both his legs.

8 204The Core of a Factory
An abandoned steampunk arms factory, in the middle of a conflict torn former state of the Empire it served, gains a soul. This transforms it into a Lord, capable of turning land into power. Beset by enemies on all sides it must figure out how to win the war its creators lost a century ago. This is a progressive Dungeon Core novel (which is to say the core will progress and expand in scale, eventually) across multiple dimensions with different characteristics (e.g. steampunk, magic, mythological). It has rationalist leanings (paragraphs of reasoning) and litrpg leanings (there are stat blocks). The core game mechanical idea is something like "what if different flavors of magic power actually did come from controlling land" and then the story is: "what if there was a flavorless (artifact deck) dungeon core". Chapters will be relatively short (my aim is that in three column format each would fit on a wide screen monitor), the first few chapters - setting up the main character and mechanics - are currently the longest in the entire series. I write chapters in blocks, and then release them one a weekday (M-F; 6 PM GMT, unless RoyalRoad's publish thing screws up) until I run out. There may be a few days of gaps here and there if someone finds an egregious error I have to re-write around or if I am behind. In general though one can read this once a weekend. I may do slight retconns and edits, I'll make sure to put it in an authors note if I do.
