《Working Behind the Scenes》A new position

Dahe preferred to spend his time floating in his pool, sipping on a cold drink, watching movies on a massive movie screen. A smile swept over his face as he savored his experience, moment by moment.

He smirked, knowing his body was cultivating for him.

Once he was tired of floating in his pool, he exited the pool, put on the robe handed to him by his butler, and proceeded to his room to dress. Dahe could simply imagine himself in whatever clothes he wanted, but that wouldn’t be fun.

Dressed in a houndstooth suit, he sat down to dinner as Wolcroft served him. While in his mind, he could eat a great variety of food from his memories. High-end restaurants, simpler restaurants, or even a simple burger stand. Whatever suited his mood.

He ate off of fine china, his silverware made of actual silver, and once he was done, he dipped his hands into a bowl of warm lemon water that Wolcroft provided.

“Excellent meal Wolcroft.”

He was complimenting himself, but he was playing a role after all.

“Thank you sir.”

Wolcroft stood straight and looked off in a different direction. “There appears to be someone at the door sir.”

“Very well. I’ll take care of it.” Dahe stated, and stood.

Exiting his dream world, he walked to the door of his house.

Standing at the door was a messenger. He handed over the message, bowed, and walked away at a quick pace.

Closing the door, Dahe opened the message. He was being summoned by the Sect Leader. Reading closer, he realized it didn’t say Vice. Just Sect Leader. He’d never met him before.

Arriving at his office, he was directed to head straight in. There was the Sect Leader and the Vice Sect Leader. Wuming Lingxiu introduced the Sect Leader. “This is Da Laoban. The Sect Leader.”

“Hello Dahe Feng Ji. I have been aware of your work and all the things you’ve done for this sect. I greatly appreciate it. However, something has come up. We have a challenging position to fill, and I feel that your particular skills would be best suited for the challenge.”

“That sounds interesting. What’s the challenge?” Dahe responded, adjusting his position so he was sitting straighter.

“One of the young princes of our kingdom is in need of an advisor. I understand you have studied nearly every book in our library, up to the second rank. And you have been a big help, introducing the concept of ‘study guides’. Therefore, I think you are suited for this position. Would you be willing to take it on?”

Dahe wasn’t sure he had the patience to deal with someone like a prince. Plus, how would the young man behave? He was unsure.

{Go ahead.}

His eyebrows rose.

{it will set you up nicely to help me in the future. Take the job.}

Dahe bobbed his head a few times, as if he was considering the offer. He let a few seconds pass before speaking. “Yes, I’ll take on this task.”

The two leaders both smiled at him. “Wonderful, thank you very much. Our second choice was not nearly as good as you are.” The Sect Leader continued, “However, since you are representing us it’s appropriate you have the proper rank. This is basically a mere formality, but I am promoting you to the second circle.”

Dahe rose and bowed. “Thank you. When should I get started?”

Da Laoban turned to Wuming Lingxiu. She turned to Dahe, “within two weeks. Travel time can be difficult to estimate, but we did say that we would have our advisor there within a month and a half.”

Dahe nodded, and once more bowed. “Then I will start seeing what I need before I go. I also need to finish off my current projects.”

His current tapestry was of a beautiful library, however it was filled with the types of scrolls and books that this world used. Dahe had created the image out of his imagination.

After receiving blessings and good wishes for his journey, he went back to his home. He didn’t really need to do anything. His body could finish the weaving work on its own. And he was able to pack his things away quite easily, as they had given him another, larger, storage bag.

During the next week, Dahe started letting people know he’d be away for a number of years. Fusang admonished him to visit when he could. “You’re able to defend yourself from common rabble, but from experts, no.” Fusang was sure he’d lose his edge out there.

Dahe thanked him for his concern, and handed him a cardigan sweater. With his brain power, he was able to measure a person’s body pretty well. And if it was a little big, it’d still be ok. Fusang took the cardigan and thanked him.

The other guys he hung around with, he told as well. They all were sad to see him go. But found the idea of such a different job interesting.

Finally, he found himself walking his way out of the forest towards the river. He headed northeast to a small village with a dock. He planned to hop on a boat and sail further north up the river. He made it to the dock and greeted the captain. They were going to head out in the morning. The town was more suited for sailors, and thus not much of interest to Dahe. So he simply spent the night in his own head.

Morning came and they set out. It was a rather wide river. When it was foggy you couldn’t see the other side. Dahe stood on deck, watching the river traffic. He even went forward to the prow, and muttered to himself, “I’m the king of the world” before giggling.

Most of the day was spent on the trip. Apparently it was because they were sailing against the flow of the river. The return trip is much shorter.

With a farewell to the ship’s crew, he stepped onto the dock and walked into the large town.

Finally he was able to get directions to a carriage headed in the right direction. With a bit of running he was able to catch it before it set off. A little bit of money calmed the driver down. Also that there weren't any bags to carry.

Dahe figured it would be unwise to go into his mind with others around. So he made his introductions and then watched the passing landscape.

That night they pulled into a small town that was essentially a way station for travellers. There was a small inn for the travellers to spend the night. In the morning, after refreshing the food for the mounts, they set out once again.

Altogether it was about a three day trip. However, once arriving in a medium sized city, Dahe found he’d have to wait for another carriage in order to reach the prince’s city.

Taking a rest for the night, he then went to the stables at the edge of the city. Just by flashing some ducks, he was able to find and climb aboard a carriage headed towards his new job, in Yangzhoun.
