《Linked》Chapter 20 - Tribes

In the beginning there were fifty.
Fifty tribes, fighting for culture, food and water.
Battling for resources, hunting lands, and personal quarrels. It was a period of great death. War began without cause, revenge became reason enough.
Three tribes living on the the Hook peninsula gathered together to discuss the problem.
They were gathered before a great beast that ruled the world. Each tribe explained their method for stopping the bloodshed.
The first, the war tribe of the Southern Hook. Claimed they would simply dominate the other tribes. With adequate force all the tribes would eventually bow.
The Second, the peace tribe of the Northern Hook. Claim the best method would be passionately asking for peace. Through kindness they presumed the wars could end. Peace could settle across the world.
It was the third method though, the beast god overseeing the conference saw true strength in the tribe.
He taught the three human tribes the skill of assembling the world energy. An energy the Beast God called Mana. With this energy the three tribes would have the power to hatch their plans.
The first used their newly discovered magic to dominate the wars.
The second used theirs to spread the songs of peace.
The third, carefully thought what they would do.
But then, they just continued as they had. Living as a human tribe in the center of the peninsula while their now godly neighbors wreacked havoc in the world.
And it was havoc.
The era of forty eight was likely more deadly than fifty.
The Upper and Lower gods had nearly destroyed the population with their pulling in one direction or the other.
The Upper Gods used their powers to protect the weak.
The Lower, used theirs to dominate the weak.
The Dragon God, who sat watching wondered when the Mid Gods might show their power.
This world began to overflow with the mana that the two Godly tribes generated.
Whirlwinds of Pure and Corrupt mana whipped across the planet.
The Beast God cared little about the deaths of humans. He simply cared about a world he could enjoy watching. He personally thought the Mid Gods, the tribe who had lived center in the Peninsula had the best mind for the task. But he chose to not intervene.

The Two powerful God Tribes had amassed unheard of quantities of mana. This was before the advent of common magic so the energy was unheard of and dangerous to the people of the tribes.
But in this time the tribes continued to strive and war. The Corrupt God's campaign was powerful. It quickly drew many to their side through sheer might. The same happened with the Pure. Two large factions had taken the world.
Those standing proudly behind the Pure Gods, vs, those who cowered behind the corrupt gods.
It would surely lead to the greatest battle of all time.
Only the Mid-Gods stood outside the battle. A neutral state in a colossal world war.
Blood irrigated the world.
Those living in the Corrupt God's land starved and looked towards the Pure God's land greedily.
One side starved while the other sat in fear of having nothing to protect their lands.
The Pure Gods and the Corrupt God's had failed. They both saw this clearly. Their way would change the world too much. Domination lead to famine and death. Peace led to stagnation and discontent.
But the Gods could not stop. They refused to back down. They now were satiated by the people living in their regions. Those in the Pure territory fed their Gods the Pure Mana they generated. While on the Corrupt side the same happened.
The Gods, while understanding of their failures. Knew that without the Mana they would have no way to maintain their eternal lives. War was all the Corrupt could do, same with peace for the Pure.
Life could not continue. It could, but stagnation isn't continuation.
The Dragon, who had seen this coming assembled the Gods again.
He offered the Two failed tribes peace.
Not the peace the Pure gods desired, and certainly not the one the Corrupt wanted either.
It actually worked out best for the tribe who had said nothing.
They all sat at the large church in the Neutral zone. It was a zone that the Beast God and Mid-Gods now shared.
The only area of true peace.

A valley seen as cursed.
The valley wasn't cursed, it was only thought to be. Due to the fact that it's where mana first began to accumulate in the world.
The two tribes bickered back and forth while the True God and Mid Gods watched. The Beast God then spoke.
"Do you wish to end it?" He asked through pointed teeth, fire flashed behind each word.
The two tribes looked terrified. They knew that this Beast could strip them of their godly power at any time. They didn't truly want to stop. They wanted to continue drawing their energy from the people. They wanted to continue to farm their citizens of mana. They wanted to continue to live.
"Do you wish for an end where you, who have become powerful, can continue on?"
The tribes seemed intrigued by this offer. Only the Mid Gods knew what it was the beast had been talking about.
It was something the Mid Gods had conceived via magic while the other Gods spent their time cultivating and warning their people.
They called them voids, openings to other worlds. Only the God knew they possessed such a skill.
"Your people can survive. All you must do is vanish." The beast said with a frightening smile.
Vanish? They all assumed he meant death. They shifted uncomfortably while thoughts of their own death flashed in their minds.
"Leave the world to the Mid Gods, enjoy your lives in stagnation elsewhere."
"Leave this world?" The Corrupt god leader asked indignantly. "And leave it to them?!"
"I find it hard to agree with a southerner but I concur, what could the center tribe possibly do? What have they even done with your Godly power?" The woman representing the Pure said with contempt.
With that question the entire church froze in silence.
Only the three leaders of the tribes could move.
"What is this? What happened to my men?" The Corrupt Leader asked shoving a nearby frozen subordinate.
The man didn't budge an inch, just maintaining the expression he held moments before.
"They are frozen in time. Don't worry they are fine. It's just something my wife learned to do while you all were fighting and singing." The Mid God leader said standing idly beside his concentrating wife. "Now let's talk."
The three leader Gods and the dragon God then talked about the Mid God's proposal. The two were reluctant but felt they had no choice but listen.
This was beyond their understanding of magic. Their magic consisted of controlling natural elements.
The pure developed Wind and Water magics, the corrupt Fire and Earth.
But here stood a woman who could control time. And all she had to do was tear a large black rip near the church's roof.
The two leader Gods realized quickly they were nowhere near as powerful as the two Mid Gods they stood against. They had thought the two representatives had unusually high levels of mana. But to be able to utilize it was another issue.
The Chaos Tribe leader explained his plan. He would have his wife create two worlds. Two universes.
They would be given to the two tribes.
These worlds would be linked to this one. They would be fed traces of corrupt or pure mana in order to maintain the gods that lived there. These traces would be increased tenfold upon entering the worlds.
With this, the two worlds could even be fed by a single mana carrier.
With this proposal the two most powerful individuals of the two tribes would stay behind and join into the Chaos tribe.
There they would then interbreed. In order to make a single mana controlling god. One who could balance the world. A possessor of each type of mana.
And, then with the help of a ceremony the leader had been developing with his wife, make a new and greater world.

A Queen of Ruins
Some people just want to watch the world burn. I'm not one of those people. Some people see the world as something to be saved, and brought to heights never before imagined. Again, not me. What kind of person am I? I'm a Queen, plain and simple. Lots of people, noble and commoner alike, often complain about life being a cruel mistress, or something similar. When I hear those complaints, I can only laugh, or look at them in contempt. Life is simple, you only need to let yourself take the path you are meant for. Me, I was born a bastard, lived with my mostly sadistic half-siblings, among people who thought I was naturally inferior. And look at me now. *********** I do not claim ownership of the picture
