《My Life as a Farmer in Another World》Chapter 5 - Spells

The meeting continued late into the night, and tonight Luke woke up earlier than his usual 3 AM wake up schedule. He had a dream telling him to wake up, it was a bizarre dream. Why did it tell him to wake up? Is a dream even allowed to tell him to wake up? It was a suspicious dream, all Luke knew was he had to wake up, all of a sudden he woke up. Luke checked his room to find out if anything had happened that some entity wanted to wake him from a dream. He wasn't very religious but this world clearly had a God, and maybe more gods, so he could not afford to be a sacrilegious person like he was in his past life. Not wanting to have any more thoughts, Luke noted everything was fine in his room, so maybe a fire?
“Nope, no smoke”.
Luke decided to go down stairs and check if maybe something was down there. Going out of his room quietly without a candle light on, he wanted to make sure it wasn’t any intruder. The first thought that came to Luke’s mind was “I am going to die like people do in horror movies.” Luke’s second thought was “I really don't want to die as a virgin again.” That was what Luke was more regretting from his past life. Luke told himself, “I need to focus!” Then Luke headed down the hallway that led to the stairs and down to the fireplace. Luke was surprised to find that his parents, and Alice were still up talking about something. He figured that this conversation must have been important for them to lie about going to sleep earlier. Luke hid on the top of the stairs to hear more on this conversation and he listened to everything.

Alice responds, “Samantha, I am an elf and I don't know anyone else that has all seven elements and people who have more than two elements are some of the highest nobles in this kingdom.” Then I heard my mom ask her another question, “I also heard that people with more elements and magical abilities live longer, is that true?” “Yes, usually if you have the capabilities to handle two elements like the elf race, you can live until 200”, Alice responded. She also said “My hypothesis is that one element gives you a 100 years, two elements gives you 200 years and each subsequent element will add another 100 years.” Samantha started crying, she didn't want her son to be living such a long life. “Honey, are you okay?” asked James. He was also very emotional about this situation, his wife was crying. James just found out that his son had seven elements, while he only had one. He was unsure of how Luke is abnormally strong for a baby and he knew nothing to say to make his wife feel better. “I know this is a shock to you but how did you think your king that was alive 200 years ago is still living now?” Samantha and James didn’t think that this was true, they wanted to believe that was a lie, otherwise Luke is going to have a miserable and long life. Alice said “I know this is a lot of information and I did not mean to make you worried for no reason about everything.” I will teach Luke everything I know and help him make connections in life so that he doesn’t end up being killed or have his life be an experimentation by some magic researcher in a lab or worse. Tomorrow morning he will start learning spells.”

Luke quickly retreated back to his room and pretended to sleep under his blanket as he pondered “what the hell did I just hear?” Luke decided after a few hours of muttering to himself that he was going to finally use the brain he had never used in his life before. He decided that in order to survive there have to be some rules.
Get good at magic, so good that nobody can ever challenge him in it.
2. Never reveal more than three types of magic in one kingdom. Come up with a way to hide his identity if he ever needed to use more than three types of magic. Make enough friends that he can absolutely trust or make them promise to never reveal his secrets, maybe some sort of magic to enforce this?
After coming up with these rules, Luke went to sleep. He got about two more hours of sleep before James woke him up and told him that he was going to have breakfast and then start to learn magic and swordsmanship starting today. James was prepared to bribe his son with food, money and story books if he needed to but Luke just smiled and said “awesome!”
Having finished eating, Luke went outside and met Alice. She told him “From now on, you're going to have some tough lessons. I hope you are ready. I know that you're only two years old but I think you can handle them, I will go easy on you.” Alice started with a simple explanation of magic and spells in this world. She said that magic is abundant in this world. It's all around us and when you say a spell name or pretend to make something with magic it becomes what the spell you say or what you imagined it to be.
“Well that's all that I wanted to cover for now, as you get older. I will keep telling you more about how the world works. You already speak pretty well but you are going to need to learn how to write.” She handed Luke a small piece of paper and a folder with the number two written on it. Luke already knew how to write and read. He suspected it had to do something with the gift from God when he first came into the world. Luke decided to keep this skill a secret until he determines Alice can be trusted.
Alice said “For today you will be casting a basic water spell. All you need to do is imagine a water ball in front of you and say water out loud.” Luke thought of a water ball and it happened. A big ball of water the size of Luke manifested in front of him, he didn't even need to say it.

The Gatekeeper
Quick Synopsis:This is the story of Reylor, a god-like existence who lost a great portion of his strength when accidentally sent from his “home” to another world. Making friends and learning to harness to power of magic, he maintains his commitment to his prior duty and proceeds to fight against corruption, both on a political front and against what is known as the shade.(Note, this story focuses on action and adventure, so politics are not in depth) This has been my first novel, which was primarilly inteded as a learning experience, and so it may be a bit rough in regards, but it should definitely be readable and it is a full story. I may make some adjustments to it later on, but there's no guarantee... anyhow, it's free to read, so give it a go! Also, feel free to check out my new website: aretornovels.wordpress.com

I Need Time
An action, adventure, mystery and strategy story about a strong male lead. Author note: First time author, good amount of buffer chapters (over 50k words) so I will not drop this book anytime soon. This book will mostly be from the perspective of the MC. On average +5k words will be published per week. I have not chosen some of the genres and tags as I do not wish to give away parts of the story. I added the content warning tags as there will come a time for profanities, gore and maybe "traumatising" content. Though, in my opinion the content will be mild if not light. *****SPOILER*****SPOILER***** Synopsis: A college ICT student transmigrates to another world filled with magic and learns magic from a dragon. MC uses modern knowledge to develop magitech technology. MC starts his adventure using the technology he develops! Saving princesses, fighting hidden criminal organizations, learning how horribly medieval peasants live, reasoning with uneducated narrow minded people, investigating the nature of magic and searching for gods... Story review: A fantasy/sci-fi story filled with some common cliches yet presents somewhat original ideas and a few unexpected twists & turns here and there. This novel also explores a few of the commonly ignored topics concerning medieval fantasy like hygiene, culture, education(ignorance, narrow mindedness) and the fact that everybody is short because magical crops cost too much. Modern knowledge in such a setting can often times revolutionize the world if the protagonist is not an idiot or weak willed or thinks something stupid like he should not intervene in a society that systematically practices unequality of opportunity, slavery and other nasty things, of course sometimes the protagonist can be just unlucky by being enslaved, etc. In our case we are granted a protagonist who had an initial stroke of luck, learning magic from a dragon instead of struggling for years without it or randomly dieing. After that his luck goes down the drain. It is arguable whether the princess is a good stroke of luck or not, I digress. Anyway the challenges the protagonist must face will grow and no more luck or helping hands. After gaining enough power and security the protagonist will change the world for the better or at least give it a stronge push onto the right track. He will make a lot of lives better but things are never so simple and there is much more to this world than meets the eye... Missing genres & tags: Fantasy, Sci-fi, Magic. *****SPOILER*****SPOILER*****

Soul Core Online
Soul Core Online was a game that few people were interested in until after it was released, due to its odd way of handling character growth but this soon changed as people started to realise just how different this game was. Unlike many of its predecessors the NPCs in Soul Core Online acted in a way that was indistinguishable from real people and the world felt alive because of this instead of the empty and sterile cities we had come to expect, even walking down the street could give you insights to how these people lived. In my case this was the world that I had always wanted to visit and I soon found myself embroiled in the constantly changing world that is Soul Core Online.
