《The Traitor Games》Chapter 5

Emma immediately ran over, her medical training kicking in as she checked his wrist and then his throat for a pulse. The prognosis was good because she started yelling out orders to us to look around for something to use as a bandage. I was surprised he was still alive, the head wound looked bad, and even if he was fine he was more than likely concussed. Allison found some gauze in another room and brought it over. Emma had his head wrapped, and pressure applied to the wound within seconds. She said head wounds bleed a lot, but aren't necessarily as bad as they might look. Crazy was unconscious, but would likely be okay as long we woke him up and kept him awake.
Lacking any sort of cold water, we used snow to try to shock him awake, but the man remained unconscious. I left the girls to tend to him, while I took a look around the cabin. The first thing I noticed was the lack of the burly man from earlier. Luna was also missing, but that was to be expected. She didn't seem the type to wait around and do nothing, and while I couldn't say she went for a part, I could at least guess she had gone looking for another android to complain to. There was also no sign of the brothers, which meant we had about 12 hours to figure out where three other parts to the radio station were, as well as get both it and the helipad fixed. We couldn't afford any more delays.
I left the flare gun in Allison's hands as by this point I couldn't afford to not trust her, there was another traitor active, and since neither Greg nor Dave had made an appearance it was likely the three of us were all innocent. Making the trek out to the next objective, this time to the west, was a risk alone, but better than sitting around wasting time.

The silence of the forest was deafening as my boots crunched through the icy layer coating the top of the snow. I felt anxious, constantly looking over my shoulder. Anyone could be watching me as I made my way to what looked to be an old steel factory on the map we had all received.
On the way there, I found one of the crates they mentioned. Inside was some food, a few more blankets, water along with hot packs to melt it, and arguably the most important prize, a revolver with 4 bullets. To the side of the straw the items were placed on, there was also a small black box. Picking it up and looking at it didn't help me figure out what it was. The only clue I received was when I placed it in my makeshift backpack and my UI popped up a notification.
1x Medkit acquired
Considering the UI had only updated for important items so far, such as the parts for the objective, I knew this medkit had to be something special. Maybe it could help out Crazy when I got back, but it might be better saved for when one of us needs it. I loaded the ammo into the revolver and feeling more confident now that I had some manner of protection continued on my way. I had gone hunting with one of my buddies way back when, and that was the only time I had ever shot a gun, but everything I'd ever seen on the subject made it look extremely simple, just point and squeeze. The one thing that came to mind from our trip was trigger discipline, and also not pointing the shotgun at your foot, but the first lesson was the most useful to my current situation. I kept my finger off of the trigger to prevent any sort of accidental misfires from occurring, not only would it give away my position, but I needed to conserve my ammo.

About half an hour later I was nearing my destination when I heard a noise that sent a chill down my spine. That noise was the growling of wolves, and as I turned around I saw three of them, hackles raised with gritted teeth. I had two real options here, run and take my chances that I'd be able to get to the building and lock them out without getting taken down or stand and fight. I would be lying if I said I didn't consider running away, but I knew that my best chance was to try and scare them off, and so I raised my revolver and shot at the biggest one. God damn, I nearly broke my wrist by shooting without bracing, but some manner of luck must have been on my side. I managed to hit the lead wolf right in the head, and it dropped. Now, had these been normal wolves, it's more than likely they would have cut their losses there, but normal wolves also don't typically attack humans in the daylight, so naturally, these wolves instead decided to charge me. This time bracing the pistol, I fired another shot and winged the second one. I had two shots left, and if I missed, I was getting bitten. The wolves cut in opposite directions, forcing me to split my attention. Firing my third shot, it was a direct hit as well. The wolf went down and turning I almost managed to get the gun around in time, but couldn't. A white-hot flash of agony ripped through me as the wolf clamped down on my shoulder. Picking up a fallen branch near me, I swung the best I could only having access to half my body. I knew it was either him or me and frankly, I wasn't really in a giving mood that morning.
As he savaged my shoulder, I continually swung that branch until the pressure of those teeth finally let up. The wolf wasn't dead quite yet, but it was in a bad way. As much of a threat as that wolf had been, I was never one to let an animal needlessly suffer. I ended it quickly, to prevent the animal from feeling more pain. As I stood up, a wave of vertigo washed over me, and I nearly collapsed from blood loss and exhaustion. I wasn't sure if I would be able to continue, and I thought of the medkit I had picked up a ways back. If anything was going to heal me, it was this. I just needed to figure out how to use it. Pulling out the cube, through blurry vision caused by my proximity to blacking out I ran my fingers over the cube, looking for indents, ridges, buttons, anything that would give me a clue. And then I found it, a tiny button at the bottom of the cube, with small ridged markings on it. Well, here goes nothing I thought as I depressed the button.
"Medical Examination Device Kit activated. Determining injuries and prescribing the best course of action. Scan beginning now." The device said as I fell into unconsciousness.

Ars Magica
Our vision comes back into focus. Our eyes, while being able to perceive the immediate surroundings, still leave us with our minds uncomprehending towards what is actually occurring. Sure, there are definitive things that we can focus on, like the fact that we're either out upon the open sea or the open ocean, there not being much of a difference with no land in sight, as well as the fact that we appear to be upon a haphazardly constructed metal boat, whose seams are barely able to keep a hold of themselves in the crashing waves. However, that does not let us understand what exactly is causing the waves in the first place. If we were to rewind time, we'd find ourselves upon a calm sea under a peaceful sky with the only difference, being a small whirlpool that would be the precursor towards this uproar around the boat. Lightning flashes in the sky, with no clouds being near, and anyone actually manning the boat has either died towards the cause of the smashing tides in the first place, or are fighting amongst the flashes of lightning, all while trying not to become devoured, demolished, and utterly decimated by the beast roiling in the whirling waves. To better understand exactly what is happening here, there is one singular event that needs to be understood, that needs to be explained, and that is the arrival of a creature named Dave. Stepping back from current events and going towards this creature's first appearance in the world, we begin to hear the sound of water slowly dripping across rocky ground. The cavern is utterly silent except for this one constant, its cause feeding channels downwards, sloping towards cracks in the rubble along the floor from broken stalagmites and stalactites. And there, lying on top of something which had fallen over recently, judging from its cracks, is a person, the creature named Dave. His form is fast asleep, either from the impact or from an intoxication, judging from the smell upon its breath. A bright light suffuses into it for a second, giving life towards the pale skin, before it slowly dies down back to the comfortable black of the cave that it's within. Before this moment in time, Dave did not exist in the physical world. At least, not in the reality that he finds himself born into. We do not know whether or not his existence is simply a cosmic joke, or something that is being played out on purpose. All that we do know, is that one moment, the body was not in the cave, and simply formed in the next. The actual earliest time that we know Dave exists, is the interpolation of the memories of J-209, which we'll begin looking into shortly to gain context towards the coming narrative that is being written and hastily trying to keep itself written. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Warning: This story has several things which might turn its readers away. The first is that this story has shifting points of perspective. Don't worry about that previous sentence too much though, as the main character will always have a first person perspective associated with them. However, any other character from which we're viewing the story from will either be in third-person, as we are not necessarily in their shoes at the moment, or in first person, given that the narrator is an actual physical presence within the story. For the most part, chapters will be self-contained with their perspectives, so there will not be an abundance of switching perspectives within the same chapter. The most that an average reader would have to worry about is the fact that perspectives can switch between chapters. The second thing is that the main character is a bit on the 'special' side of things. He's not exactly mentally there most of the time, so there will be some times that his personality or his thoughts do not actively align with his actions. The third, and final thing of importance, is the fact that past the first couple of chapters, nothing has been planned in advance. There are arcs and plots that I want to do, want to implement, or have already been set into motion from our main character's introduction to the world, but the method that I use for my story writing and generating leads towards a bit more random chance being enabled. Basically...there's a lot of dice rolling behind the scenes. To not complicate the story further than its regular LitRPG elements, the rolls will not be publicly available. However, there will be knowledge within the author's notes on whether or not there were positive or negative critical rolls that had occurred within the chapter. You have been warned. Updates: Mondays & Fridays (Schedule permitting) Typical Chapter Length: (2,000-3,000)

Into the Feywild
I've never considered myself to be much of a fighter. In fact, I had no notion what it was all about. I couldn't envision a war amongst people, especially my own. In this odd realm, a timid half-elf has little chance of success. Especially with minimal experience. I've only fought as a means of survival, self-defense, if you will. I had known only humans, so the concept of elven culture and family was foreign to me. And yet, here I am, in the midst of a tremendous battle between two Feys and a God. I never planned for things to turn out this way, or for me to get caught in the great shambles of war—a conflict between good and evil. My two companions are practically strangers to me, knowing nothing but my name. This journey was not something I had planned or wished for, but it was what the Gods gave me.◈ ◈ ◈Meli, a young half-elf traveling the Material Plane, is unexpectedly captured while on her travels, only to become a member of an odd group of individuals. Crane, an older wizard castaway from his college for practicing unnatural magic, and Kurky, a youthful and lively gnome who is as fascinating as they come. Meli's curiosity gets the better of her as she chooses to accompany them on their not so concrete journey into the Feywild. Little did they know of the constant war raging within this woodsy plane. Maybe Meli will discover everything she's been looking for, embracing love and pleasure along the way. Or perhaps she'll become a part of something bigger. © Copyright to EmmeMeadows 2021
