《Darkness Rising》Prologue: The Shift

In a realm invisible to the eyes of mortals, a figure sat cross legged on the time-worn stone floor of a temple. A multitude of eyes peered out from his skin, their irises shifting too and fro at a rapid pace. The man’s body stiffened, and the eyes froze. All but one melted into his flesh, merging with the remaining eye in the center of his forehead. The eye grew until it covered his forehead completely, its pupil shrinking till it was nearly invisible.
Sivus, after confirming what he had seen, raised his right hand, frantically swiping through a holographic screen that appeared in front of him. He pressed his finger against it, initiating a call. Seconds later, the screen changed, displaying the face of a beautiful woman. Her golden locks bouncing, she turned quickly to face the screen, a look of annoyance on her face.
“What is it Sivus? I’m busy! These foolish mortals have desecrated another one of my temples! I must punish them immediately!”
“I am sorry, Helena, but this is of utmost importance. The Primordial Oblivion has shifted.” Sivus stated, his monotone voice nearly mechanical in its delivery.
Helena’s face froze. She stared at the screen for a moment, processing the information.
“Wha-what did it do?” She inquired, her voice rushed and agitated.
“It sent one of its spawn down to Atul. Most likely to increase is development.”
“We must destroy it! The Primordials have already wrought destruction upon Atul once. We cannot allow those beasts to do it again!” Helena shouted, her voice full of anger and spite.
“Wait, Helena. You do remember why the Primordial Oblivion split Atul, correct? It was because one of its offspring was accidently slain by the Primordial Creation. If we kill it now, without just cause, Oblivion may retaliate. I say we exercise caution, and wait to see how the situation develops.” Sivus interjected, hoping to quell the rage in Helena before she did something rash.

Helena frowned for a moment, then visibly relaxed, a soft sigh escaping her lips.
“Of course you are correct, Sivus. No need to anger the Old Ones when nothing has happened.”
“Your decision is wise, Helena,” Sivus praised, “I will continue to observe the spawn, and will report to you if anything goes wrong.”
“Thank you, Sivus.”
The screen went blank, and Sivus abandoned his charade, slamming his fist into the stone floor. A spiderweb of cracks spread across the entire temple floor, despite it being enforced by divine power. Ignoring the damage, Sivus began to rant.
“Foolish goddess!” He shouted. “You know nothing of the Primordials or their past. You have no idea what happened in the unknown era. You don’t even know that the last spawn sent below ushered in the mythic era, in which you were born. Yet, in your foolish pride, you still believe yourself worthy enough to slay OBLIVION’S spawn!?”
He cursed again at the foolishness of the young, before returning to his cross legged position. Eyes sprouted once again on his body, resuming their frantic viewing. He had averted a crisis for now, but he could only hope the spawn did not force the gods into foolish action. He did not wish to relive the unknown era. An era of utter destruction and death, far exceeding the ash era, brought about by the wrath of the Primordial Oblivion.
