《Pink Mage》135, Young masters and how to use them!

In the end Micky didn’t really care about how things were going. The event with the little noble heir was finished up relatively quickly if not cleanly. As for the young man that they was pursuing and his girlfriend standing over him protectively? They were press ganged into the army. Luckily they didn’t seem all that choked up about the young man’s brother that [Dead] protecting him. Not because he didn’t like his brother, but because he was aware that he had a hero complex that would never be fulfilled due to his lacking strength. If anything the young man was happy that his brother was able to fulfill his fantasy if only short lived.
As for the Tubors? They were rapidly raided and dealt with while Micky was here. The final cleanup would be left to the governor but Micky had no problem deploying muscle in the meantime. It made him think back to when he was the one cowering in the streets. And for a second he wanted to pop this town like a pimple, then it disappeared. Micky wasn’t the type, he had been bullied and he could bully to achieve his ideals. But Micky would prefer to achieve things instead. Why even bother with bullies when there were just so many things that could obliterate them? He would rather be on that thing’s good side and never have to worry about the bullies in the first place. As long as Micky was powerful enough to flick off bullies like flies or gnats then he would never have to worry about them in the first place.
As for the materials that were confiscated in the raids? These would be taken as evidence and any soldier that partook in them would be swiftly dealt with. There was already a pile of heads at the collection depot. There were some interesting finds however. For example, it was apparent that the Tubor’s were a part of a drug smuggling ring. Something that the governor apparently didn’t want Micky to look too much into. Something that was enough to slide another ten shares of the Tubor’s confiscated goods and 3 shares of the alchemical goldmine his way. Micky excepted of course.

Micky could think of several influential centurions that would love to help him with the confiscated evidence as well. The drugs in particular would need to be sent in for review from several centurions that were directly under the legate himself. And should Micky find himself in a steady supply of such evidence, he would have no end to his buyers… reviewers. As for the other stuff he needed to offload, most of it would stay here until he could get a caravan to move southward away from the skirmish. Which actually wasn’t as hard as it might sound since most caravans coming away from the skirmish were empty.
This meant that the things that were meant not to be seen immediately could go on a confiscated caravan immediately and the rest could spend it’s time waiting for a larger one. Such as the nearly endless amount of slaves. There were only so many he could use as camp followers and gifts. Then there were the staff that would suddenly find themselves mixed in with the slaves, but Micky wasn’t going to police what the soldiers did too awful much. After all, if he was too overzealous they may revolt against him. So long as they were things that were not his to make a profit off of Micky wasn’t going to complain, or execute them for it.
The biggest problem were the half elves, and half dwarves. Elves and dwarves were vary particular and strange. These were no doubt left behind with some pregnant whore or another. The elves and dwarves not even knowing that they exist. And should they go back they would no doubt be ostracized in the worst of ways. On the other hand, if he kept them the elves and dwarves may take exception and there was no way that the kingdom would protect him from their wrath. So Micky did the next best thing. He foisted them off on someone that could, at the minimum, keep the news hidden.
Micky did free all of the child slaves however. Child slaves that were not accompanied by their parents were illegal. So Micky would place them in the nearest half decent orphanage or more likely an apprenticeship. Free labor for the likelihood of becoming whatever it was they were apprenticed too. In addition, should they become that, they would then become a true apprentice and do everything that their master tells them. It was a beautiful thing… Anyway, it wasn’t Micky’s problem as he planned to give these orders to the sweating governor who was more than happy to have Micky out of town as fast as possible.

It turns out, the Tubors were not the only ones slow to adapt to the change in resime. There were several small noble houses that also collapsed almost overnight, well in some cases it was literal. Almost all of these could be traced to some little wastrel or another. And Micky was basking in the exultation. It was amazing how often these little bastards had attempted to have the beautiful female or male soldiers kidnapped. On the few occasions when it was successful there were even more viscous raids on said noble houses. This outpost had quickly been turned on its head and there were several riots that had to be put down. It wasn’t pretty. But considering that Micky had almost as many trained soldiers as there were actual townspeople it wasn’t too much of a big deal. He could probably even send a single 1000 ranker in and decimate the entire town. He had this outpost under his complete control and the governor knew it.
Micky thought about it and it really was the sandals on the other foot now. But Micky didn’t want to start trouble. It was simply that he would end any and all trouble that came to find him or his. This also earned him the respect of the soldiers as the supply corp was used to being traded when their commanding officer got political. This newfound loyalty also meant that he only need to chop off half as many heads when they finished the confiscation after the raids!
But all is well that ends with wealth. And Micky had made a killing on this trip. So it was time to head back. The legate had had his fun at Micky’s expense and Micky was sure that he had left enough problems that could lead directly back to the legate himself to have made up for it. Now he needed to head back and be done with his little side quest. To return to politics, intrigue, murder, backstabbing, two faced hypocrisy, double dealing, under the table and back room deals, and if that wasn’t enough maybe they might actually go to the battlefield and fight the enemy! Nah, it was safer there, not as many people wanted to kill you on the battlefield…
Micky could only shake his head as he sat in the supply wagon. He was in the second wagon of the small group that he was in. He had to split them up this time because they were too big. The supply wagons were ladon and he learned his lesson when they weren’t even loaded. At least if they made small groups they could keep an eye on each other. If he simply had them all in one large caravan then they would cause problems and often need to stop because of something inane with just one cart.
Now that the groups were separated out the carts were moving at twice to possibly even ten times their speed! If one took out the actual traveling speed of course. It was amazing. Micky felt that he would shrink down the two week adventure into merely a handful of days. He was very eager to get back to the skirmish. Not that he was looking forward to fighting under the legate again. However, He was very worried about his soldiers in his division. He had left Prin in charge, and he trusted her. But that didn’t mean that the rankers or soldiers would be kept in line even when she could do a better job of it. No they needed their mascot… *Cough* centurion.
… Then there was an explosion...

Author's Thoughts: What is litRPG (From wikipedia) - LitRPG, short for Literary Role Playing Game, is a literary genre combining the conventions of MMORPGs with science-fiction fantasy novels.[1] LitRPG is a literary genre where games or game-like challenges form an essential part of the story. A LitRPG work simultaneously narrates the story of characters inside and outside of the game-world. At least some of the characters in a LitRPG novel therefore understand that they are playing a game: they are 'meta-aware'. So, while Tolkien's Lord of the Rings is a fantasy novel, a book about people creating avatars and interacting in a Lord of the Rings MMORPG would be a LitRPG novel. Why do I read them? You know, I am not too sure. I love MMOs. I played them, quit them, joined up and repeated the cycle. They are fun! They are a massive waste of time but so are most games. Do I want to read about someone else playing them? Sort of?The advent of VR and the possibility of VR someday becoming so immersive that you can't tell them from reality sets the imagination on fire. What if this could be life? But most stories fall short. At the end of the day the protagonist hangs up his VR helmet and goes to have dinner with his mom and dad or other family and it becomes meaningless. It's like the story that ends because the main character woke up and nothing you read matters. There have been some books that explore the concept of the intersection of reality and total immersion VR. Enders Game is a classic. There were a few others that escape me but they exist, however, the cross between the game and reality is weak.So what if the game was real? The technology needed for total immersion VR is so advanced that by the time we reach that goal technology should have naturally evolved to include several items. You must have direct neural input. You simply can't have a total immersion (all senses and perfect presence) experience without this basic prerequisite. If you have direct neural access, you can probably do neat things like feed knowledge and skills directly to that person. You can undoubtedly do many horrible things as well. Muscles are controlled by the brain. If you control the brain why would you let the body just sit there and rot? A person that sits unmoving for 24 hours a day will have their body whither away just like a coma patient. However, if you control the brain you could control the muscles. On a basic level, this would be isometric impulses, working muscle group against muscle group to avoid atrophy. Taken to its logical conclusion you would be able to gain muscle mass and program muscle memory. The flip side is that you could remote control their body... but let's not go there. So what would people do if it were real? Well, they would probably limit and regulate it since the drawbacks are very obvious. Even if you look at the basic aspects of this you can see some negative possibilities. Look at the Sword Art Online anime. Personally, I think they missed the boat by putting a bomb in the VR helmet. Do you really need a bomb when you have direct access to the brain? So what kind of events would you need to have a situation where the obvious drawbacks haven't been explored? Maybe a society where the advancement of technology has so far outstripped the explorations of its applications that ignorance was truly bliss? Okay, so I had to put in an alien invasion to kickstart the premise, but that was just one of the possibilities.
