《Lord of the Red Castle》Chapter 27

"Come out!" The maverick's voice echoed once more.
Before long, it was seen that 4 silhouettes were descending from the hill. Above them the maverick's ice spears swirled.
"Prince Doran, I am sorry, I didn't do my job properly." said Edward, bowing.
It was a big mistake not to notice a group that was following them, and as the commander of the soldiers, he was in full responsibility.
"Edward, it's not your fault, they're using something to hide from our mana senses." said Doran.
Edward's thoughtful face lit up. Doran's words made everything clear.Normally, there was no way he could miss a team like this. Edward bow down again and left Doran's side to go to the soldiers. After saying something to the soldiers, a group of soldiers started walking quickly towards the hill to bring the 4 people to the camp.
Not long after, 4 people arrived in front of Doran and Maverick.
Doran was sitting on the stool again, studying the 4 suspects standing in front of him.
Ashley, on the other hand, was right behind Doran, slightly frightened by the sudden events.
2 of the followers were male and 2 were female. The man, with a medium-sized bushy red beard and hair, was a tier 5 Cultivator. others were tier 4 cultivators. There was no wizard among them.
"Hmm. Who are you? and why are you following us?"
The red-bearded man was about to step forward and speak when Doran spoke again.
"I hope you don't lie, the consequences will be much, much worse for you!" Doran said coldly before the red-bearded man even speak.
The red-bearded man swallowed. He understood that they were screwed. But he still didn't understand how they were able to find his team.
"Your Majesty Doran, we are a mercenary group on Terras. and... and we were hired to follow you." said the man with the red beard and red long hair. Although the man was not very tall, he was quite built. As he spoke, he scrutinized the maverick and the ice spears above his head.

"Oh, you're so brave! that didn't stop you even though you knew my identity." said Doran, smiling. But there was no happy expression on his face, more like a child encountering a secret.
"Hmm. You don't even know who hired you now, do you?" ' asked Doran.
"Yes, Your Majesty Doran, someone offered this job while we staying at an inn. The man who offered the job was wearing a mask. Also, we had no plans to harm you, we were just following." ' said the other man behind the red-bearded man.
Doran looked into the eyes of his opponents one by one.
He had several ideas in his mind as to who had sent these men. But it needed to be investigated.
"Arte?" called Doran.
One person in the group, who watched what happened, left and came to Doran. He bowed in greeting. He was dressed entirely in black.
Arte was the head of the agents in the caravan, and was responsible for performing Doran's duties in case he needed it. King Albert had already set up a separate department for agents and was headed by Markus.
"Inquire in detail! No torture or killing, then report what you find to Markus." said Doran.
The red-bearded man was relieved when he heard the words no torture and no killing. He was sweating coldly ever since the ice spears began to spin around their heads. Because he could feel the power of magic in the spears. He was almost certain that if he made a wrong move, the spear would instantly pierce his heart.
At Doran's signal, 4 people started walking into the camp. Soldiers surrounded them, ready for anything.
"Who sent this team? Any ideas?" asked Ashley.
"Yeah, a few, but we need to investigate first." said Doran.

"I'm mostly wondering how you were able to detect them." said Maverick, smiling, sitting down on the stool.
"I use a different method to scan the environment." said Doran
"Oh, enlighten me," said Maverik. "I haven't heard of your weird ideas in a long time."
Doran began to speak. "Uncle Maverick, all the books you taught and read were based on seeking and recognizing Mana in people's bodies."
This was the method used by almost all wizards. Whether they were a sorcerer or a cultivator, they had mana in their bodies. If this mana was within the reach of others' senses, you could discover them by focusing on that mana. But as Doran was thinking about this method, he realized that it had a major flaw. If the other party hides their Mana, the search results were always wrong. Of course, hiding the mana was not an easy thing. But it wasn't impossible either.
"I saw that if someone could hide this mana, these methods would be useless, and I decided to create my own method," explained Doran.
Maverick was quite surprised by this. Because such a situation was very rare. Hiding mana would either require great skill or be a pretty powerful artifact. So it was very unlikely for a normal wizard to encounter such an enemy, but Doran took this possibility into account and developed a method accordingly.
"My method is about examining the suspended mana in the environment. No matter how careful a person is, when he breathes and moves, it causes the suspended mana to change place. I also follow these changes and spot them this way."
"You always find something to surprise me, that's great. You should tell me in detail how you did it?" said Maverick, smiling.
After assigning a group to interrogate and spy on the followers, those in the camps began preparing food and setting up tents.

Outlook: The Stars (Consciousness Unbound Book 1)
The year is 2152. Rune Yahui is a nineteen-year-old failure, not having gained entrance to college or the military, with no significant prospects in life. Even worse, Rune is the poorest of the poor, hailing from the mega-slums of New Southern Chicago, the lowest pit of America. In a desperate last-ditch attempt to gain a future more lustrous than toiling the rest of his days away in abhorrent conditions in one of the near sweat-shop level factories that dot the megapolis, Rune signs up for the Virtual Citizen program, a program to cull the excessive world population by transferring just their brains into a video game. In a stroke of rare luck, Rune is admitted into the program and happily submits himself to the surgery and digitization process. Unfortunately for him, he wakes up several hundred years later than he expected... or does he? **Author's Note** This isn't a type of story typical to RRL. You may have noticed LitRPG in the tags, but it's a relatively minor element in the story until later. You may also notice Slice of Life is in the tags. This story is going to be slow and there won't be any power tripping until way later if at all. The focus will be on character development. That doesn't mean I won't still have action/excitement, however. I encourage you to give the story a try. Maybe it will be your thing, maybe it won't. Thanks for even taking the time to read this, and if you do give my fiction a try, I hope you enjoy it. If you don't, well, I hope you find something that you do enjoy. Happy reading!
