《Stepping Through》We Play the Game – 28 – I Think I’m Good

Tina heard a noise of disgust. She turned to look over at Greta who was shaking her head. She looked back at the warriors, tensing as the whole eight of them filed in and surrounded them in a semi-circle.
She was about to get up, but Greta held her arm.
“Follow my lead,” she advised. “Do not think for a moment these… men are here to harm us. Or that they are even authorized to do so.”
They sure looked like they were, could, intended to.
“What do we do then?” she whispered to the older woman.
Greta sighed.
“We wait for the damn dwarf to make his appearance, “she said. “He’s quite the showman you know.”
“Really?” Tina said.
Greta offered her a sideways glance.
“What did you expect,” she stated then rolled her eyes. “Oh, you didn’t think the emperor himself sent this scruffy lot to disrupt our negotiations. He has more important things to attend to, you know, like an empire to run.”
A short figure pushed his way through the gathered warriors. And, as Greta has anticipated, it was Devon, decked out in an impressive suit of armor himself. And he wore it much better than anything she’d seen him wear yet.
“Oh,” he let out a breath of relief when their gazes met. “You are all right, Tina. I was worried when I saw that carriage carry you away. Didn’t you hear me yelling?”
“Um... no,” Tina told him. Okay, well she might have heard him yelling, but she’d been offered a carriage, and he was surrounded by a mob on a rampage. It would have been stupid not to accept a fast way out of there. “And as you can see, I am quite fine.”

She picked the goblet up and took a sip from it. As much as she didn’t like what Greta had insinuated, she also still wasn’t happy with Devon and was not going to make this easy for him. Wow, was she that drunk already?
“Yes, you can go and take your scruffy lot with you,” Greta told him. “The greatest Murderball player in this world is exactly where she wants to be.”
Devon looked at her. There was a murmuring and a shuffling amongst the gathered warriors who seemed to be a little confused at what they were supposed to do now. Maybe Greta was totally right in what was going on and this was all theater.
“You have no right,” Devon said, turning his gaze to Greta. “She doesn’t belong with you.”
Greta offered a harrumph.
“And she belongs with you?” the woman said. “Just like you to justify a misleading contract, an act of kidnapping, forced labor.”
She turned to Tina.
“Do you want to go back with him,” she asked. “Do you feel you need to be rescued?”
“Um…” The band of Vikings didn’t seem to be at all a threat anymore. Tina offered, “not exactly.”
She took another sip of her Sangria.
“I think I’m good.”
The dwarf stalked up to her, eyes wide.
“Listen to me,” he told her. “Greta isn’t doing this out of the kindness of heart, she never does, since she doesn’t have one. She is doing this to remove you from your best path, and reshape this narrative to her own ends. Do not believe anything she tells you. She is after the hammer as well, and she doesn’t deserve it. She has not earned it. And she will not give you what she has promised.”

Greta made another harrumphing noise.
“And you will? What are you that you deserve Lola?”
He turned to her.
“Lola is not for me. She belongs in the Halls of the Mountain King at his side,” he snarled. “And that is where she is going to go!”

My class [Death Knight] is just barely legal...
Ever since meeting his uncle, Arthur has pushed himself daily to achieve an arbitrary goal. He trained like nobody else did, longer than anybody else could. He neglected his personal relationships to pursue something he didn't even understand, in hindsight. When the time came for his class awakening ritual, he was ready. He was ready to receive a powerful starting class and to break free from his boring lifestyle. Well, you know what they say, "Be careful what you wish for, lest your wish be granted." Arthur was assigned the death knight class, which is just barely, technically, maybe legal. With it, he learns about what drove him to such simple minded ambition in the first place: his affinity. Now, he's faced with a dilemma: will he embrace it, or reject it? 'My class [Death Knight] is just barely legal' is a laid back story with occasional tension, that describes Arthur, a young man, exploring the world, the system and his own mental health as he pursues his ambitions. This story is the first serious fiction I ever wrote, so while criticism is definitely welcomed, keep it polite. I'm going to rewrite the first few chapters at some point, since they're not as good as my later ones, but I'm focusing on my current chapters first. I don't have time to do both yet, since I'm also in the middle of my exams. What to expect from this story: -Litrpg elements -A chaotic good aligned protagonist (that starts off as a neutral good protagonist) -(Hopefully) interesting characters. What not to expect from this story: -Grimdark elements -Harem -An enslaved protagonist. (I mention this due to the background of the mc's class) Release schedule: 1 chapter every other day, 2pm European time (14:00) Join the discord here: https://discord.gg/YHZFB4HMHD

Superior Era
How would you react if you found yourself unable to sleep? Not just for one day, or two days, or even three days, but a more permanent time span, like the rest of your life? That’s exactly the predicament Dario finds himself in and he’s thoroughly vexed by it. After all, what sort of sane person would want to miss out on sleep? A madman, that's who. It’s especially worrying considering how he lives in a world filled with fantastical monsters, deadly beasts, and 'Superiors' supposedly protecting the interests of humanity. Sleep is quite the necessity under those circumstances. Life is tough for an ostracized kid, but Dario quickly realizes that his wakeful nights are more blessing than curse, as there seems to be quite a few advantages in not having to sleep... Join Dario as he climbs the ranks of superhumans, uncovers hidden truths, travels the world, and discovers abilities he never before thought possible. This is a tale of superpowered/superhero-like individuals set in a dangerous fantasy world with hints of GameLit elements. Features MC with abilities deemed unique to the world and can disregard the need for sleep at no cost to himself. No Harems. Current Release Schedule: 3-5 chapters per week. (Slower updates for holiday season) First few chapters are fairly short, but the rest will average around 2.5k words.

Force Majeure: A web novel
In the Qursan Empire, the grey walls of the city press down on its subjects. It is a highly divided society which is based on the magical strength of its citizens. While the most powerful are trained as Mages, the majority of citizens use their limited skills with essence to power the city in their assigned jobs. Jano is pretty much the lowest of the low in the Qursan Empire. A Class Ten citizen forced into transitory work after having his power restricted. When he gets the opportunity to change all of that, he takes it with both hands. Please note this is an edited version of my story ‘city of captives’. It follows a similar structure but I’ve ironed out some of the kinks. If you read that version, much of this will be similar though there are some differences. This is a slow burning progression fantasy. Please expect at least two chapters per week. I love writing this story but I do have unfortunate things to deal with like work and life outside of writing. I may be able to write and edit more than that, but it will never be less! If you enjoy this, consider following me on Instagram by just searching Crow J Williams.

Re:Interference- Did something go wrong with my Rebirth?
> The GOD made a simple offer. And the man rejoiced, and gladly accepted. However...something goes wrong, and instead of being reborn, the man wakes up inside a strange room in a ruined temple. > -NOTICE- This series is also available on my personal blog, along with two other series I am currently working on (blog exclusives). -NOTICE- CHANGE OF SCHEDULE- Due to some IRL stuff, I am forced to change the schedule for Re:Interference. Because of that, I will make two major changes to the schedule. First, I will be able to release one single chapter each week. Next, the release of it will be random. That means, one week I could release it on friday, the next one on sunday etc... whenever a chapter is ready (writing, editing, proofreading of 9000+ words) it will be released. If you read this, please do keep in mind that: English is not my native language (so, by all means, if you spot bad grammar/ wrong terms etc take your time to leave a comment, it will help me a lot) As this is my first attempt at writing a web novel (well...technically it's my second attempt...but oh well) please leave some feedback about the story. Any kind of feedback will be appreciated (unless it is just blatant, non-funny insult) Thank You for your Time!

Passion Forged in Hell
Koala knew the evils of the world, she had endured the worst it had to offer; she didn't think it would get worse, but fate proved her wrong - the love of her life, her partner in crime, had been brutally beaten at the Reverie - then sold into slavery by the Celestial Dragons. Now, Koala must overcome her trauma if she wants to get Sabo out before it's too late.*Basically, it's my theory for what happened at the Reverie, since Oda is intent on keeping us in suspense.Disclaimer: Not mine, I do not own One Piece.
