Chapter 19: Paths
-----------------------------------------------------------------------
Face the facts of being what you are, for that is what changes what you are.
―Soren Kierkegaard
<><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><>
Four years before Edin’s knighthood
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
David/Mek
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
He missed his tail. Sometimes he would subconsciously move his tail but remembered it wasn’t there. He lifted his arms to pet his cat ears.
At least I still have these.
His mother had been a junky that lived only for her next fix of nip. He had never met his father but assumed his father was probably some man who was horny enough to make love to his drug addict of a mother.
He hated his mother when he was nine she had come into the house with a rusted and dulled knife.
She had insisted that if she could get rid of his cat features than he’d be no different than a human boy. Even David himself knew how stupid that sounded. There was no changing someone’s eyes and David were green and feline.
He struggled but she had started cutting into his tail. He screamed as she used the dull blade repetitively to cut his tail.
The neighbors had heard his cries but by the time they had arrived his mother had succeeded in cutting his tail. The cat tribes were incapable of magic but even if they had a healer he did not have the money to hire them. Although there were rumors that once you got past your instinct as a cat then magic was much simpler but most races of the zvire and beast race relied on their natural physical attributes. They were also capable of using muscle strengthening magic.
His neighbors had been an old elderly couple it was because of them that David still knew that some people were good albeit rare.
David realized that it didn’t matter what race you were, some people were bad others were good.
But most of them are bad.

He sighed.
“What’s wrong?”
“Oh I don’t know, we’re inside a ship going somewhere to be sold as slaves, it sucks,” David responded.
“Yeah calm down Mek,”
Mek what a weird name.
Mek had been his nickname ever since he had been captured by the slavers. He didn’t speak much when they asked him. Someone had named him that and it stuck. He didn’t care, the less they knew the better.
“Mek, this one has heard that the king of Ganeleon wishes to free us,”
“Where did you hear that from?”
“This one escaped once to the unclaimed lands between Ganeleon and Thisadora and the lord of those lands had said to me and another that he had spoken to the Ganeleon king.”
“And?”
“Well, he said they were gonna discuss more but the lord had disappeared before the king had returned.”
“So escaping and going their for help.”
“With the lord gone and this one has heard that his heir prefers slaves.”
David sighed
So much for escaping.
“Enough talking in there!”
David was only ten and he hoped that he had a nice master. He didn’t want to be trained like Kane and several other slaves who lost their identity as living beings. Always referring to themselves as this ‘one’. Sometimes he thought it better to just die.
He had been sold to human slavers by The bear beast race who had sacked his village only to get slaves that they could sell in return for metal weapons and armor. The Zvire were humans with animal ears and tails while the beast race were more humanoid animals. They looked like their wild counterparts but they walked on two feet and had some intelligence. They were wild compared to Zvire who were more domesticated.
“You know Mek being a slave is not so bad,If you work and keep quiet ,life will be more comfortable, plus the snow crab”
“Yeah but we’d still be slaves.”
“All men are slaves it matters not what those chains are but at least here you will be given food, water, medicine and a roof on cold nights,”
David said nothing.
The ship had stopped and the slaves were being herded towards a large building with no windows. The doors were guarded by men with spears.
They started separating the children from the older slaves.
He was standing together with other children when a man stepped in carrying small stick the size of a child's arm.
“I will be your master here!” said the man
He wasn't tall.David had seen taller men but man carried himself with a sense of superiority. The man went up to one child.

“What is your name?”
“Stan,”
“Well stan that is the only thing you shall all be allowed to keep is your name,”
You all belong to your masters,”
The man looked down at a boy from the lion beast race,
“Who do you belong to?”
“I belong to myself!” screamed the boy as he attempted to lash out against the man but the boys were all still in shackles so his effort was fruitless.
“You belong to me!” shouted the man as he whipped the boy
Then he suddenly turned and looked at david
“You what’s yer name?”
“Mek,”
“who do you belong to?”
David was not someone who believed in pride. If admitting that you were a slave and were treated better he had no problem with that
“I belong to my master,”
“Good then Mek you shall be the leader of this group,” he said as he handed David the stick
“Here this stick gives you the authority to discipline your group, for if you do not I will,” he said as He showed Mek his whip
David, no Mek grabbed the stick
“Excellent for a year you shall be trained to be the best of slaves, after all our company is the best in quality slaves.
Mek decided he would live no matter what he had to do.

De'rek
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Four years before Edin's Knighthood
De’rek was on his knees scrubbing the deck of the ship.He was still excited at having such an opportunity to be apprenticed as a fisherman.
A native of Zahurdet ,a contingent of small islands off the coast of the Ganeleon kingdom. It’s natives were dark skinned and lived off the sea.Their main exports being fish.
His uncle was the first mate to the quartermaster and was able to find De'rek a job as a swabbie. He had wished maybe he had been cabin boy but alas his job was scrubbing the deck
He sighed
No I just have to work hard and they’ll see my effort
His wish was to commander his own fishing ship. His father had always told him that hard work paid off.His father had been a slave but he had payed off his master for his freedom and was able to become a whaler.Having been a whaler for ten years he retired to his native island and married De’rek’s mother.
He saw commotion near the steering wheel. It looked like the captain and the navigator were pointing somewhere in the distance. The captain took out his telescope.
De’rek looked towards the port side where they were pointing and saw a large boat.It seemed like they were flying the flag of the Ganeleon kingdom.
This would be his first time seeing a ship so large belonging to a kingdom.
The ship had over three levels of cannons with at least ten cannons on each level. It came closer towards their fishing ship.
strange maybe they want to talk about something
As the ship grew closer he noticed that there were few sailors on the deck of the ship. These men were not clean shaven. Some of them seemed to be outright thugs but all wore the uniform of the Ganeleon kingdom.
Looking at these men he felt something amiss. As he started stepping back slowly one of the men on the other ship threw a hook that latched onto the fishing ship.
“Arg!” screamed a man as he swung from the rope and landed on the deck of the ship.
Pirates!
De’rek ran to find his uncle Le’shon. As he ran the pirates began cutting down the crew of the fishing ship. They were fishermen not fighters but this was their livelihood and they wernt going to back down.
De’rek found his Uncle struggling against one of the pirates. He looked down at the knife at his side.
It was a simple knife for everyday use. From gutting fish to cutting a piece of rope or fabric.
He took it out of it’s simple sheath and held it with his right arm.Bringing it up above his head he ran and screamed attempting to stab it into the pirate who was facing his Uncle
“Ah!”
When he was halfway to his destination someone grabbed his right arm.He turned to look and saw a fist.
Being only eleven the strike was strong enough to knock De’rek unconscious.

Edin
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Present time
Is this fine?
Hawk’s nest would never be his,That house belonged to Thomas. He had to leave the nest eventually right?Of Course he’d miss his friends and family but taking this job wouldn't mean he couldn't see them. They could visit him or he could visit them.
This is a great opportunity
Here he could establish his own knightly house. This would be his new life.He sighed
He was doing the right thing abandoning Hawk’s nest.
Right?
"What's wrong?"
"Cass i told you I like vegetables with my meat,"
"That's weird what noble eats vegetables,"
"I do, it helps trust me,"
I have to eat healthily to get the proper vitamins to grown right
Meat was for those who hunted or had the money to afford it.While vegetables were eaten more by commoners along with bread.Either way many people lacked vital nutrients so the average height was much shorter with people getting sick easily.
"anyways it's amazing Edin you're gonna be the youngest Royal guard eever appointed,"
"Mmmmm I'm not sure about it,To be a guard for the rest of my life seems kinda meh,"
"Oh then what where you gonna do as a knight,"
"I suppose you're right,"

The Tragic Tale of a Zombie Survivalist
Tragedy is something that most people would not want. Watching their family die or their friends disappear and not have the strength to change the outcome can change people. Break them, even. Not everyone can have the mental fortitude of a champion, the courageous heart of a leader, or the heavenly fate of a hero.Watch as one man tries to change that. Observe him as he comes to terms with what it means to experience tragedy. The tragedy found in everyday life, the tragedy experienced by others, and the tragedy one faces when courting death.=======================================This is just another Zombie Apocalypse with game elements. But, the game isn't just an RPG, it's a mobile game as well!Chapters are short but this means I can post daily. Your thoughts, comments, and concerns are welcome!

Shrike
He wants to play the latest and greatest VRMMORPG game, but he can't muster up the cash for the fancy new proprietary hardware and membership license. After months of saving up cash and arduous work, he has built a behemoth of a machine relying almost entirely on seedy old technology and a DIY guide by some dude named "Jimmy Bob." This is the story of his entry into the game. This is also a story of intrigue, exploration, introspection, batshit crazy game design, and unintended but entirely predictable consequences. This is G.C.O. Undergoing a total re-write, mostly because I think things were too rushed rather than any content or direction changes. If you are one of the few who tried Shrike when it was briefly updating, consider giving it another shot. Of no relation to either The Great Crusade or the recent (in 2017 lol) Shrike book for Warhammer by Games Workshop. All similarities in these cases are superficial; please don't sue me. Feedback welcome and encouraged, never be afraid to review or comment. HQ/Kindle-Grade cover art. Book Cover 2.0: "From the Dark"

Corpse Crawler
Ludwig Lock wakes up in a hospital bed to find a weeping woman at his side. After some crying, more weaping and confusion, Ludwig discovers that that lady was his ten year old sister, and that he's been in a coma for fifteen years. He also learns that the world he had grown to know was no more since heroes, villains, and super powers inhabit the streets, being regarded as a lot of things withing an endless spectrum. Just when he was about to finally get started with his new life, Ludwig faced a streak of bad luck, the last event of this chain setting him up to die so a vigilante can save himself. After suffering the worst beating of his life and experimenting the incompetence of the law, Ludwig decides to use his own hands to achieve justice. He will face difficult challenges, traumatic situations, and probably horrible stuff to get his life rolling. But at least he's got a friend to help him. Not a normal one though. ---- IMPORTANT: I personally identify powers as a fantastical element, which is why I don't find weird the addition of other elements of the same vein if it stays within the logic of the world. New and old chapters get updated with relative frequency, (new chapter every week, though it may be delayed a day or more to problems or some other reason) and the story is in a draft-like state, meaning it will probably stay the same but there will be changes on the prose or writing. Also, I would apreciate if it is known to me (Respectfully) which points should I improve on.

Monstrous Path
This story is both dark and lighthearted, it will have a lot of deaths and gore scenes but not just for the sake of being edgy or something like that. Every being comes from someone’s life — a womb, an egg, the world, a God, and from itself. Then what about me? I came from a container, so what does that make me? Am I still a being? “I do not know — I want to understand — why?” This was my driving force to live when I opened my eyes, I had no need for food, I only needed to satiate my curiosity. But as I learned early on, life was not as simple as it seemed. Note: The Characters in this world would always have a reason for living, and the world moves not just because of the MC. This would also have a lot of tearjerking scenes (or so I would hope) Culture, Race, Government, and Language can and will be different and though some Races like Elves and Dwarves are present, please do not think that they are the same as every other.
