Chapter 17: Knighthood
---------------------------------------------------------------------
“Knighthood lies above eternity; it doesn't live off fame, but rather deeds.”
― Dejan Stojanovic

What am I doing here?
Edin was now fourteen and standing in an arena having a melee with another squire. He found it strange that he was here just so he can be knighted and be better than his cousin Luke. The old him didn’t care about people being better than him but now for some reason Luke being knighted before him irked him
Stupid freestone blood making me all aggressive
It was his second attempt at this squire’s tourney. He had entered the first time when he was thirteen but he lost his first match in the preliminaries. Edin’s opponent was a man of 21 years of age who was more than skilled. It seemed the only reason he was not being knighted was because his lord didn’t particularly like him. Sir Patrick easily beat Edin who was wearing heavy plate armor and was armed with sword and shield. Sir Patrick managed to win the tourney though so Edin wasn’t particularly mad but even so his blood was boiling. Why? He didn’t really know.
This time Edin opted out of wearing the plate armor and was wearing leather armor with chainmail. He had a shield on his left hand and a sword in his right.
His opponent was a lanky-looking squire only a year older than himself.
There were two ways to win the one on one match. One was to make the opponent yield to you the other was for the referee to intervene and decide a winner.
Sir lanky of the awkward let’s get this over with
He observed his opponent and could easily tell why the teen wasn’t being knighted. The teen stood awkwardly while using two hands to hold a sword that could easily be held in one hand and his stance was one of a child trying to hold his bladder from exploding
Edin lunged forward and brought his sword up over his head and swung it down but the lanky squire brought his sword up to stop his swing.

I got you
He had expected Sir lanky to stop his right feint so as sword hit sword he brought up his shield and bashed it against lanky’s face hearing the breaking of his nose.
“Winner is Edin!”
Too easy
This had been his fourth match and he was now in the semi-finals but all his opponents had been children that thought their training had been enough.
“As expected of Sir Myles’s squire,” said someone in the crowd
“That was great,” said Cassandra as she handed him a canteen with cold water
“No those guys were amateurs,”
“Well last time you had a skilled fighter and you got your ass handed to in less than thirty seconds,”
“That was because my mobility was restricted due to the heavy plate armor; things would have been different otherwise,”
“Oh so you’re telling me you would have won,”
“No Cassie I’m telling you things would have been different,”
“Semi-finals will be starting in a minute; Fighters please come to the fighting grounds!” screamed the announcer
“Well gotta go,” he said as he handed the canteen back to Cassandra
He walked towards the fighting grounds that were no more than an area of dirt enclosed by simple wooden railings.
His opponent was already standing on the opposite
“Well if it isn’t my old friend jimmy,”
Wearing armor without a helm and holding a great-sword was none other than the old acquaintance James who’s fingers Edin had cut once
“It’s James and I never liked you,”
“Match start!” Screamed the referee
For a sixteen year old James was taller than average standing at 6ft (182.88 cm for you non-Americans)
Edin was only 5’7 (170.18 cm) and still growing
He’s gotta come to me if I want a chance to take him
“Oh don’t tell me you’re now traumatized by me ever since I cut your fingers,” he said taunting James to attack
He’s most likely using the Ardiente style so I just have to wait for an attack and then counter-attack
James rushed forward slashing horizontally
Whoa fast
He had just barely dodged the first attack by taking a long step back but as soon as he had moved James had already brought the sword back but Edin went forward and blocked the second slash with his shield. As he felt the impact on his shield he brought up his sword and whacked James on the head using the flat side of the sword.

James bent over concussed as he was brought down to his knees.
Edin swung down his sword aiming for the neck but stopped before hitting it he simply kneed him on the head.
“Winner! Edin!” announced the referee
Luckily he wasn’t wearing a helm
He grabbed his left arm still feeling the shock from the earlier swing he had blocked
“You did it!” screamed Cassandra
“Yeah just barely,” He replied as he took the canteen
“Final Match will be in five minutes!” screamed the announcer
The twelve year old William brought a wooden stool for him to sit
“Thanks Will,”
“No problem, just when you’re a knight take me as a squire,”
“We’ll see,” he answered
He sat down tired ignoring the conversation the Gibbs children were having as he took his five minute break
“Final match starts in a minute!” screamed the announcer
He sighed and stood up reaching for his shield and short sword
“Good luck!” said William and Stacy in unison while Logan simply nodded
“Any advice Mr. Gibbs?”
“I’m a strategist not a fighter,”
“Still,”
“Just use your brain,”
“Ok then I’m off.”
He walked up to the fighting grounds and went to his corner still waiting for his final opponent
Ugh finally
His opponent was none other then the eldest squire he had once been acquainted with. The now 18 year old Henry who was no taller than himself but had thick arms and wide shoulders walked into the fighting grounds. He was completely covered in heavy plate armor.
Henry simply nodded at him and put on his great helm that covered the entirety of his head and had small slits for his eyes
Damn he’s like a frickin tank
Edin clicked his tongue as he realized one of them was going to get hurt severely.
The plate armor that henry was wearing had almost zero gaps and the only gaps it did have were small and would prove hard to penetrate with his short sword. Even if he had a better thrusting sword he couldn’t use those gaps as killing his opponent would mean being disqualified.
The only advantage he had was his mobility as he lacked a blunt weapon to hurt henry significantly.
“Match start!” screamed the referee
Neither of them moved
Damn seems he’s trying to conserve his energy.
“What’s the matter scared of someone not even wearing heavy armor!” he said aloud taunting henry
Henry though ignored him and continued to stay put
He continued jeering at Henry saying whatever came to mind to try and anger Henry to move towards him
At this rate they’ll be no winner
He moved forward step by step as he raised his shield to up to his nose and prepared his sword ready to strike.
He took a light swing that was easily blocked by Henry"s shield. He continued probing Henry’s defenses attempting to tire him out.
He saw no trace of Henry feeling any fatigue but he himself was starting to sweat.
Trading blows had gone on for more than a few minutes
That’s it!
There was a small gap behind Henry's knee that could be pierced at a downwards angle
He stepped away and took of the chain mail he had under his leather armor
Henry tilted his head to the side as if saying what are you up to?
Edin crouched down as if preparing for the 100 yard dash. He pushed off and ran towards henry. As Henry took a stance and leaned forward in anticipation for the blunt attack but as Edin came closer he crouched and flipped over Henry an as he was upside down in the air he drove his sword into the gap behind Henry's knee
“AAHHH!” screamed Henry as he went down on his right knee as Edin drove the sword deeper
“Yield,” said Edin as he moved the sword
“I will not!”
By this point Henry had dropped his shield and his grip on his sword was lessened. Edin bashed Henry on the head with his shield.
“Yield,” said Edin
“No,”
Henry was lying on the floor as Edin kicked the sword away from Henry and grabbed the collar of Henry's armor then he raised his right hand and punched him.
“Yield!”
“N no,”
He punched Henry again
“YIELD!”
“No,”
Edin punched him again
“YIELD!”
“No,”
Edin punched him again and again with every punch Yield he would scream
“YIELD!”
“YIELD!”
“YIELD!”
“yield!Yield!YIELD!”
The referee grabbed Edin from behind
“He’s out already, you won lad,” said the referee
Edin was smiling and breathing heavily when he finally came to his senses
“I’m sorry, I’m fine now,”
The referee let him go
I might’ve gone a bit overboard he thought as Henry was carried away by the healers
“Winner is Edin freestone, squire to sir Myles Townway !” screamed the announcer
