Ouch!those were some harsh reviews at least one was somewhat constructive I think and the other one i dont really know what a generic harem mc is and what are these cliched qualities because I'd like to know.

Also to the guy who didn't like my early chapters but continued to read and eventually enjoy my story thank you!

Chapter 14: Make the money

Myles was born an Orphan. He was bit larger than the other kids but Myles rather than being a bully decided to protect other kids from bullies. It was his dream along with most other boys to become a Great Knight but like with all childhood dreams you realize how nearly impossible it is.

Unlike most kids Myles didn't care if he wasn't trained by knight. So Myles learned by watching the local knight’s practice and whenever there was a Tourney Myles would always watch. He would mimic their movements and practice using a thick stick he found in the forests.

Then one day while Myles was practicing in the forest a caravan of merchants was attacked by bandits. Myles wanted to see some real blood and gore so naturally being the curious little boy he was he watched the bandits attack the merchant caravan.

Myles was hiding in the bushes on a nearby hill as he watched the battle unfolding.

Over fifty bandits took on the caravan. The bandits were obviously nothing more than thugs with sharp blades. The bandits surrounded the caravan but the caravan had some 30 soldiers and a group of ten knights. The knights while mounted on their horses formed a wedge formation and easily broke the encirclement. The soldiers following right behind the mounted knights were able to easily dispatch the bandits. The bandits were broken and began to run away.

After that the knights went out of formation and went on a killing spree.

One of the bandits who were carrying a bow ran up the hill past the young Myles. One of the knights was hot on his tail but the bandit in a fit of desperation raised his bow and with surprising luck managed to fatally injure the knight. The knight’s body was dragged by the horse. The bowman was nowhere to be seen.

Myles led the horse away from the area while the knight’s body was still attached to the horse. Afterwards He looted the Knight’s armor and great sword

He hid his newfound treasure. Everyday he’d practice by wearing the armor that was twice the size of his body and with the great sword he could barely drag.

Myles thought of becoming an adventurer but that wasn’t the best of choices. There were Adventurer’s Guilds in the Ganeleon kingdom but the Ganeleon kingdom was one of the safest kingdoms. Any monsters had been completely eradicated from the kingdom. That’s why most aspiring adventurers left to find work in the Thisadora Kingdom and the land of demi-Humans where goblins and other monsters resided.

So when Myles was old enough to enter a tourney he entered as Sir Myles Townway. Even though he had no family name Myles simply made one up. That was the first of many tourneys Myles would eventually win. Then the king offered him a place among the Royal Guard and ever since then Myles has served the king.

Many people came offering their sons as pages or squires but Myles rejected them all. After all Myles didn't have any experience in teaching and he felt a bit guilty not actually being knighted like other knights.

Now however he had a student with natural talent but Edin lacked the motivation to work hard.

So Myles decided he wouldn't teach Edin anything on till he begged on his knees to be taught. Myles thought this plan would motivate Edin to give it his best.

Then a week passed by and that week turned into a month with Edin not even showing up once to beg Myles.

What the bloody hell thought Myles

What kind of a kid gives up an opportunity to be taught by the best knight in the Entire Kingdom.

Myles decided to discipline this kid and he went up to Edin’s room expecting him to be still sleeping but Myles found an empty room. Myles searched for Edin throughout the entire castle and found him on the archery range together with Theodore.

Edin's POV

“Oi! What the hell is this!?”

“Archery practice,” Said Theodore

“I’m trying to figure out why you’re training in archery when you could be having lessons with me?”

“Well you said…” Says Edin

“I know what I said,” Interrupts Myles

“The kid said you didn’t want to train him,” Says Theodore

“That’s cause I wanted him to give his training full effort,” Says Myles

“He doesn’t work hard at anything,” says Myles

“Hey I can work hard! I just don’t wanna,” says Edin

“Well why don’t you working hard?”

“There’s nothing in it for me,” says Edin

“Do you not want him to learn archery?” asks Theodore

“Well I see nothing wrong with him learning archery, I just want to know what it’s gonna take for him to give it some effort?”

“Well it’s not like I want to be weak or anything I just,” says Edin

“Mmmm I just don’t want too,”

“How about we give you a reward?” says Theodore

“I guess that could work,” says Edin

“I know how about a copper a day,”

The system of currency in this world was quite simple

1 copper is enough to buy an apple so a copper would be the equivalent of one American dollar as the concept of cents was not used in this world’s currency

100coppers=1 silver coin

10 silver coins=1 gold coin

“How about a silver coin a day,” says Edin

“3 copper coins,” argues Myles

“50 copper coins,” says Edin

“You know you get free food and water plus a nice room with bed,”

“Fine then 20 copper coins,” says Edin

“How about 5 copper coins then,” negotiates Myles

Mm let’s see 365x5 equals um calculating please wait

Let’s see 5x5 is 25 carry the two then

A few calculations later*

It equals 1825 which in this world is 1 gold,8 silvers and 25 copper coins

“Ok 5 coppers a day and I’ll give my training full effort,” says Edin after a few minutes of thinking

The next morning Edin went to the archery range

The three of them had agreed to leave archery for the first half of the morning then training with Myles for the second half of the morning afterwards Edin would have lunch and then classes with the princess and the private tutor

“Ok you've been shooting that compound bow for a while now so now I want to train your left hand so for now on use your left hand to draw,” said Theodore

“Ok,” Said Edin

Edin continued practicing until it was time to train with Myles. Edin walked to the training ground to find Myles waiting for him

“So then what am I gonna learn?” asks Edin

“My own style of fighting,” says Myles

“I’ve combined techniques from the Acuoso style and the Ardiente style,”

“Huh?’ asked Edin

“Oh you don’t know about the four main styles of fighting?” asked myles

“Guess not, that’s probably why I’m here to learn,” answered Edin

“Well the easiest and most common style is the Piedra style since it has a good balance of attack and defense,” Explained Myles

“It basically comes down to attacking and blocking, most users of this style rely on swords or a mace together with a shield,”

“Then there’s the Ardiente style which is the most aggressive, it relies on offensive techniques, This style is favored among those who use two handed weapons such as myself,”

“I see,” answered Edin

“The third is the Acuoso style which relies on parries and counter-attacks, This style requires patience and can be used with most weapons,”

“The fourth and last main style is the Rafaga style which is rarely used in this kingdom, it relies on speed and precision strikes, This style is used by people who use projectile weapons although in the southern kingdom there’s a sword that is solely for thrusting,”

“I believe it’s called a Rapier, so it can be a close combat style as well as long distance,”

“Ok I think I get it, so then you use the Ardiente style because of that great sword?” asked Edin

“Yes and no,” Explained Myles

“I use offensive techniques from the Ardiente style and I use defensive moves from the Acuoso style,”

“In the Ardiente and Piedra style when you block you use the edge of the sword to block the enemy’s weapon, In the Rafuga style you can dodge and deflect, In the Acuoso style you use the flat side of the sword to deflect hits at an angle,”

“This is why The Acuoso style is for those men who are slimmer as you simply parry the attack away rather than using power to block it,”

Edin spent the rest of training trying to learn how to parry properly. Afterwards it was time for his classes with princess Aislinn and her private tutor.

“Afternoon princess,” said Edin

“Good den,” responded the princess

“Princess perhaps you should try speaking modern English, You are only seven after all,” advised Edin

“Verily, it is so.” Responded the princess

“We’ll work on it,” said Edin

“Thou art most kind,”

“Ah morning you two,” said en elderly man

“Afternoon Hammond,”

“Good den Hammond,”

Hammond was the royal family’s private tutor he’s been here since the king’s father hired.

“Yes well let’s review the foundation of our kingdom, Edin mind reminding me,” said Hammond

“Uh let’s see,”

“Right two different nations were here constantly having battles attempting to take this valley but it always ended at a stalemate since there was only one way into the valley But while they were battling A group of refugees from the southern kingdoms had already built a castle from their these refugees had an impenetrable fortress then from their The first king and his successors managed to establish the current Ganeleon Kingdom,”

“That’s correct,”

Edin spent his days like this until he finally turned eleven

“Guys let’s stop using these blunted blades,” said Henry one day

Henry, James and Edin were standing in the training grounds practicing with their blunted swords when Henry suddenly said that

“You mean we spar with real swords,” said James

“Obviously Jimmy,” said Henry

“I don’t think we should,” said Edin

“Ah you’re too boring Edin you gotta take some risks,” said Henry

“Ok fine then,” said Edin

“Ok then jimmy spar with Edin,” said Henry as he handed the swords to the both of them

“Ok then don’t hold back,” said Jimmy

“Just go easy on me,” replied Edin

“AHHH!” screamed jimmy as he swung his sword

What Edin didn't realize was that jimmy was a bit envious of Edin, not only was he squire to the greatest knight in the kingdom but he was even paid to be trained. Jimmy wanted to teach Edin a lesson

Edin easily parried the attack but jimmy was two years older than Edin so he wasn't an easy opponent

They traded blows for a bit until jimmy kicked Edin’s shin and as Edin bent down due to the pain jimmy swung his sword aiming at Edin’s face.Edin however managed to pull back at the last second. Jimmy had drawn blood and Edin now had a cut near the end of his left eye. This was enough for Edin’s Freestone blood to activate.

With a fury Edin lunged at Jimmy and managed to cut Jimmy’s right finger’s off

“AAAHHH!” screamed Jimmy while dropping his sword and holding his bleeding hand

Oh snap thought Edin as he woke up from his frenzy

“Holy shit what the fuck Edin,” said Henry as he ran to James side

“I I’m sorry it was an accident,” said Edin

“I know a healing spell,” said Edin

Um what was that healing spell again? Thought Edin

While Edin remembered the spell for most offensive magic he completely forgot the basic healing spell

“Wait never mind I forgot Tehee,” said Edin

“Let’s go find a healer,” Henry told jimmy as he picked up jimmy’s fingers

Edin was left standing in the middle of the training grounds as Henry and jimmy ran to find a healer. Edin then walked to the kitchen to find something to wipe his cut with he didn't want to go to a healer and get in trouble.

As Edin entered the kitchen

“Edin what happened?’ asked Cassandra

“HAha I got cut,” said Edin

“Oh really I didn't notice,” said Cassandra sarcastically

“Sit down,” said Cassandra as she brought a chair

“What happened to you boy,” said one of the workers in the kitchen

“Um stuff you know,” said Edin

“We should get you to a healer,” said Cassandra as she wiped the blood with a towel

“For something small like that just stitch it together cass,” said one of the cooks

“I don’t think,”

“Please Cassie I don’t want to get in trouble so just stitch it up,” begged Edin

“Fine,” responded Cassandra as she stood up to fetch some needle and thread

“Thanks Cassie, I’ll pay you back somehow” said Edin

“So then take her on a date!” screamed one of the kitchen staff

“That’s right I've earned enough to treat you to something nice so then next week let’s go into town and eat something,”

“I um sure,” said Casandra

“It’s a date then I’m off,”

A week later as Edin and Cassandra were walking on their way to the city

“So they started ignoring you?” asked Cassandra

“That’s right even though it was partly their faults and besides Jimmy managed to get his fingers reattached,”

“Anyways where should we go?” asked Edin

“Why should I know?” asked Cassandra

“Well you are a year older and this is like the second time I've been in the city,”

“Well I've rarely been to the city,”

As Edin and Cassandra were discussing on where to eat a small boy bumped into Edin

“Ah sorry,” said the boy

“It’s cool,” said Edin

The boy continued to walk away

Cassandra was a bit suspicious

“Edin I think he took your coin pouch!” screamed Cassandra

“Huh? Oh shit!”

“Hey you stop!!!” screamed Edin at the boy

The boy turned and ran

“Cassie stay here!” Screamed Edin as he started to run chasing the boy

“Be careful!”

Edin was chasing the boy when the small thief ran into an alley and was surprised

The young thief had met up with several kids ranging from a 16 year old and the youngest being no older than Edin.

“You were followed ya idiot!” Said the oldest

“No way,” said the boy

“I just ah want my money back,”

“Let’s go!” screamed the oldest

All the kids took off and Edin gave chase but as Edin started chasing this band of thieves they reached a dead end but the pack of kids didn't stop instead they started climbing up a stack of warehouse boxes and climbed onto the roof.

Edin followed them to the roof but Edin had a hard time keeping up. Sadly Edin had neglected his ninja training however in order to catch up Edin had to use the body strengthening technique.

The kids looked like a pack of monkeys running on the roofs. One of them did a front flip when jumping from one roof to the other. You’d think these kids were part of a circus act with their amazing acrobatic skills

Show-offs thought Edin as he tried to catch up but then the kids jumped off the roof but Edin saw that there was no longer any tall buildings and they were entering a residential area.

Edin was on the edge of the roof as he saw the kids go down to the ground while jumping from side to side and then landing on top of a wall.

Edin tried to mimic them but as he landed on the wall of a backyard he twisted his ankle and fell into someone’s backyard. Edin ate grass hard.

It seemed Edin had sprained his ankle.

Damn I really need to remember that healing spell thought Edin as he lied on the lawn

“Are you alright?” Edin heard a question

“Seems your friends left,”

“Yeah they weren’t exactly my friends,” said Edin as he looked up at an old man with a cane

“Well it looked like you were having fun running with that savage grin of yours,” Said the elderly man

The man was right Edin hadn’t noticed that chasing those kids was exhilarating he hadn’t had such an adrenaline rush unless he was fighting

“I was out on a date when they stole my money,” explained Edin

“Oh,”

“Yeah well now how am I supposed to return empty-handed, so much for showing off my cool side,” said Edin while standing up and wiping the dirt of his clothes

“How about I loan you a silver coin?” offered the old man

“I can’t accept your money,”

“Did you notice how I said I’d loan you the money, I never offered to give it away,” said the old man

“Yeah well it’d take a while to pay you back a silver coin,” said Edin

“You don’t have to pay me back with money but with your hands”

Edin had a disgusted look

“It’s not what you think get your head out of the gutter,” said the old man

“I have no hired help at the moment; I just need you to do some chores around the house,”

However what the man called a house was more of a two-story mansion. Rather the entire area was filled with similar mansions. Edin figured this was more of a retirement area.

“Yeah fine I accept,” said Edin
