Chapter 8:The Walls have ears and farewell

“NOOO!” Screamed Sue as she lunged at the man aiming for his neck with her dagger

The Japanese man seemed unfazed with Sue’s killing intent. He simply stood still as she aimed to end his life

Just as it seemed that Sue would succeed Edin stepped in and held his sister back

That was close Thought Edin as he tried to restrain Sue

“Onii-chan Let go!” said Sue as she struggled to escape from her brother’s grasp

“He’s trying to take you away!”

“Stop being a brat and think for a second,” said Edin as he scolded his sister

“If you had killed him his army would have surely attacked not only hawk’s nest but the village of Porahi as well; what were you planning on doing after killing him huh?”

“We could have run away,” said Sue as she herself noticed how stupidly she acted

“Where to? This is our home as well as the villagers and they would have lost their home due to your selfishness,”

“Do you get it now Sue?” Edin asked his sister

Sue nodded to her brother’s question

Edin breathed a sigh of relief as he released his sister

“Please forgive my sister lord …um sorry I didn’t catch your name,”

“Nagayoshi takuya, head of the Nagayoshi clan.”Said The Japanese man

“An honor to meet you Lord Nagayoshi,”said Edin

“Yes well be ready at dawn tomorrow Edin,”Instructed Lord Nagayoshi

“Can I take my dog?” asked Edin

“That is fine,”

“I’ll go pack my bags too,” said Sue

“I do not think so little one,” said Lord Nagayoshi

“You have obviously been adopted by this house so your worth is less than your brother’s”

“I don’t care; I want to go with my onii-chan,”

Edin pulled his sister aside

“Sue I need you to stay here yeah,”

“But onii-chan,”

“Are you not my ninja Sue?’asked Edin as he tried to convince his sister to stay

“I need you to be my eyes and ears while I’m not hear ok,”

“Just keep training sue I’m sure we’ll see each other soon,”

“Ok” said sue while looking sad

“Well I will be leaving now,”said lord nagayoshi as he started walking out

“We have more than enough rooms here,” Offered Edin’s father Lord Freestone

“No my men have already set up camp by now and I don’t want to impose while your family says their farewells.” Said Lord Nagayoshi as he left Hawk’s nest

“Well I’ll go pack.” Said Edin as he left towards his room

Edin didn’t have any possessions that he really cared for.His room was Big enough to hold a Queen’s size bed along with a bookcase and closet. His room along with every other room in this manor had a large fireplace which was odd as the area they lived in always had hot tropical weather.

Edin decided on taking some clothes and his Katana

The Katana was chipped and weathered but it still held enough of an edge to cut thru bone. The katana used to belong to his sensei Amano Shunji.

Edin packed his clothes and sword. As his father entered his room

“Done packing?’ asked his father

“Yeah,” answered Edin

“Edin theirs some tough times coming to this house,” Said Edin’s father

“I’m sure we can handle it Dad,” Said Edin

“Well I have something to show you ,”Said Edin’s father as he walked towards the fireplace

He then reached his hand into the fireplace and pulled.Then the fireplace opened up into a tunnel.

“Follow me,” said Edin’s father as he walked into the fireplace tunnel

“Whoa,” said Edin staring in wonder at the secret entrance to a tunnel

Please tell me we have a bat cave thought Edin’s as he followed his father in.

Edin noticed that there were hollow pipes following along the tunnel. Then they arrived to a small room which was had several pipes. It seemed the pipes ended here.

“This is the listening room,”Said Edin’s father

“There’s a pipe connected to every fireplace and they all lead here,In other words you can hear everything That is said in the house simply by sitting here listening to the pipes in this room,” said Edin’s father as he put his hear to an opening to a pipe

“Here listen to this one”

As Edin put his ear to the pipe he heard The 14 year old dog eared Lilith

“Edin leaving has ruined all my plans of him falling in love with me then us getting married then I no longer have to work as a maid,”

“But Edin isn’t the heir to this House,” Says Lilith’s nine year old cat eared Little Sister Allison

“Ah I just would’ve convinced him to take his brother’s place as head of house freestone,”

WTF did I just hear thought Edin as he lifted his ear from the pipe

“There’s more,” Said Edin’s father as he climbed down a ladder leading deeper into the ground

Edin followed after his father

As he climbed down the ladder he heard running water

“This tunnel is connected to the river so if you follow it you end up near the river, so it’s a perfect escape route,” Explained Edin’s father

“I hope we’ll never get to use this escape route,”said Edin

“No if we need to we’ll use it,”

Edin and his father walked back to Edin’s room

“Who built that?” asked Edin

“The very first freestone was a very paranoid man,”answered Edin’s father

“Well get some sleep Edin so you won’t be tired tomorrow ,”

“Yeah goodnight dad,”

“Goodnight son.”

That night Edin had a nightmare. In that nightmare Edin saw his dad in the tunnels.He kept whispering “I’m sorry, I’m sorry”

In the nightmare Edin tried running towards his dad but no matter how fast he ran his dad was unreachable.

Edin woke up gasping for air.

This was the first time he had ever had such a nightmare in either of his lives. When Edin walked down to the first floor where the dining room was located everybody in his family was already seated.They were all eating their breakfast silently

“Good morning,” said Edin as he sat down to eat breakfast

“Good morning Son,Did you sleep well?” said Edin’s father as he tried to change the sour mood in the dining room

Edin looked at his mother and sister.They were quiet but one could tell how furious they were.

“We have more than enough money, I don’t see why we can’t hire mercenaries to protect the planation and village,” said Edin’s mother

She had a point House freestone made a lot of money from their sales of timber and elephants and since they lived in such a remote area they hardly spent any money on anything.

“Honey,” said Edin’s father

“Mom that isn’t going to work,” interrupted Edin

“It would take a month for a mercenary army to arrive here, If the lords of Yamato got word that we were hiring soldiers they would be here in Three weeks,” Explained Edin

The Freestone family finished their breakfast in silence

Edin was now standing outside The freestone manor saying his goodbyes to his friends and family

“Lily, Allie I hope you guys can keep the house clean,”

Lilith suddenly hugged Edin rubbing her still developing breast across his face

Must maintain my calm thought Edin as he knew Lilith’s plan of having him fall in love with her so that she can live an easy life

Edin remembered some words from his old world

Some Bitches be crazy Thought Edin as he let a small smile out

“That’s enough onii-chan!”yelled Sue as she separated Lilith from Edin

“I’ll miss you too my cute wittle sister,” said Edin as he hugged his sister

“baka,”said Sue as Edin stopped hugging her

“Divya Here’s hoping you won’t give up on your dream yeah,”said Edin as he offered his hand for a handshake

It looked as if Divya was deciding on whether to hug or simply shake his hand

“Yeah thanks edin, You take care too.” Said Divya as she shook Edin’s hand

“And Lucy, Good luck with your um business,”said Edin awkwardly as he was facing her

“It’s not like I’ll miss you,”Said lucy

“Right,I didn't think so “

“Idiot.”Whispered Lucy as Edin walked to say his farewells to his teachers

“Um teacher I guess this is goodbye,Please continue teaching Sue,” said Edin as he bowed to them

“That's obvious yeah,” Said Glengain The wizard

“It’s what were paid for,” Said the retired ninja Aamano Shunji

“Remember to keep practicing your magic,” Said Edin’s teacher in magic Glengain

“Yeah” responded Edin

“Kid remember to keep your eyes and ears open and also listen to the gossip that the hired help speak of,”

“I know sensei ,I remember the basics of infiltration,”said Edin as he said goodbye to his teachers

Edin walked up to his mother

“Edin you represent this house well as befits a man of your station,”said Edin’s mother Madelynne as she struggled to not let any tears flow

“Yes mother I’ll miss you to,” Said Edin as he hugged his mother

“Well it is time to go,” Said Lord Nagayoshi as he waled up to Edin

“Take care son,” said Edin’s father as he waved Edin goodbye

“Bye dad,” said Edin as he walked away with Lord Nagayoshi

Edin hoped this wasn't the last time he’d see his home as he stared back at His home Hawk’s Nest
