《Manablood Mellie》Chapter 3: Random monster battles

Fire licked at her feet as she frantically ripped through the forest, unknowing of the bleekmoss underfoot until the screen flashed Mild poison resistance gained!

The dragon couldnt see her through the trees but it was definitely chasing her from its territory. She skidded to a stop at the edge of a cliffside as the dragon loomed forward roaring. It was the water below or the dragon behind her so she shot out over the cliff into the water, smacking her head on impact, her screen flashing Debuff: concussion as she was knocked unconcious and rolled down the river.

She awoke wrapped in a tenticle wrapped around her torso half in half out of the water partially washed ashore. The tenticle felt as if it was sucking her blood, her life and her soul from her wounds because it was. She panicked and began screaming. The tenticle stopped moving. Mellie had to think fast. She was magic now! She had 2 spells. Shadowalk would teleport her from this situation but her legs were trapped and apparently that kept the spell from casting. She had the weird Test of Wills spell though. She was scared to try it because it sounded ominous but she had no other way out.

Mellie grabbed the tenticle. "TEST. OF. WILLS!" she screamed.

Mellie wanted to live. She wanted to experience life and love and magic. Mellie was also very hungry. After a hard push of magic, two tenticles disappeared and a handful of calamari appeared. The creature squealed loudly in pain and horror.

She decided to attack more tenticles until she had survival supplies. She was hoping killing this thing would change her level, and help her survive. But without a soul nearby, there was only one way for her to find out. The river she had washed down had narrowed and the baby was too large to maneuver around in the recesses. It was comically easy.

Her heart beat frantically in her chest. She hadnt even had time to process monsters being real before she began her mad dash away from being eaten. Now she had to be the predator. With shaking arms she grabbed a thick branch from where the forest meets the river and the branch tore through the papercut she had on her hand letting a dribble of blood onto the stick unbeknownst to her. When she identified the stick with her truthseeker she saw the reaction.

Manablood wand

It was a wand, except it wasnt wireless.... so it was more like an extension cord? But any extension away from the beast was a welcome one. Mellie could feel the circular welts on her chest begin to itch and close. It was time to end this thing. When she touched the next tenticle and initiated the test of wills she only had to touch it with her manablood stick.

"Testofwills!" She yelped out like one word and backed up quickly. She thought hard about how she needed a way to carry water before and during the wills spell and a waterskin appeared when the tenticles were taken. She backed away and exhaled steadying her breathing. The creature was yelling loudly in terror and was trying to escape the much too small river.

As she was about to cast her last test of wills she was thinking about a sleeping bag but she was thinking about her parents and how she missed her family. The next set of tenticles dissappeared and in their place a photo of her and her parents fluttered into the stream and she snatched it to her chest and began to sob.

Mellie debated trying a new test of wills to get a sleeping bag or even better a covered hammock . She picked reached down and touched a rock and thought about a sleeping bag and tried "test of wills". The spell backfired and her hand started becoming stone. She quickly cut her left hand and rubbed the manablood on her rock hand before her hand began to regenerate and slough off the stoneskin. It was a very painful experience that lasted an hour of screaming into her purse material to muffle the sounds from the surrounding creatures.

Once the pain subsided and the hand grew back normally Mellie packed away her picture, wrapped the calamari in a CVS reciept and filled the waterskin. She decided to go through her giant purse and take stock of what she brought with her on this abrupt adventure as well as get her bearings.

She knew she was obviously not on Earth. There were 2 suns. And 2 moons from the looks of it. There are skills and levels. Magic is real and she has it. Dangerous magic that she doesnt know how to use. She needs a teacher. Also civilization and people. She looked through her few belongings.

It turned out to be a terrible idea because the thing was heavier and bulkier than the phone but the spell was done and she wasnt wasting the risk she made with test of wills or the mana she lost in casting the spell. And it was a really nice hammock she could zip herself into that she could hang in the trees.

She packed everything into her purse slung the hammock over her back and started following the river. As she walked down the river she slowly got used to the new distribution of weight, ignoring the notifications.

After about 2 hours of walking down the rocky terrain between the forest and river, dodging high level kobalds frequenting the riverbed, she stopped and decided to climb a tree to see if she was headed in the right direction. After finding a good climbing tree she scaled the ceiling of the forest and looked out at the surrounding landscape. And all. She saw. Were trees. She was alone with no one around her for miles and miles.

As the suns began to wane and the moons began to rise, Mellie hung her hammock up as high as she could safely reach. She barely slept that night. She may have gotten a few hours of rest before dawn but she could barely tell. The forest was alive with noises and her hammock bounced with activity more than once during the night, but she wasnt discovered. When the morning light crested over the horizon Mellie was done with the forest. Unfortunately the forest was not done with her.

As she lied there awake, processing all that happened the previous day, Mellie steeled herself. There has to be a future out there for her somewhere. She just has to find it. She packed up her hammock, sat down to eat the chewy cold calamari, washed it down with water and set off down the river, hoping to find something other than a monster. This time she practiced her shadowalk.

Test of wills was a very powerful spell and she couldnt figure out why she had trouble with the will of a rock but not the will of a giant squid creature thing or a cell phone. Until later that day when she saw a Rock Giant lvl 6 Truthseeker lvl 5! swatting at a little goblin child who was holding a mini pickaxe. A pickaxe? Maybe hes friendly? The child ran off and the Rock Giant settled back down to nap.

She chased through the forest after the little boy, desperate for civilization. She was worried there were no other humans on this world. When she finally caught up to him, as he was taking a breather, "Hello?" She queried at the little boy. His eyes popped out of his head and his jaw dropped open. He turned and fled further into the forest.

"Wait!" she ran after him, trying not to lose her first connection to any sort of sentient creature in two days. "Please wait!" she pleaded with the child who vanished into a mine. She stood outside the cave entrance, shuffling foot to foot wondering if she followed him if she would be embraced or in danger. She decided to wait. A few minutes later she heard voices coming from the cave. A pair of goblins following the goblin child hissed and drew their weapons. "HUMAN!" they yelled.

The goblin frowned. "You speak gobspeak?"

"Where are your people?!" He demanded, louder.

"I have no people. I'm alone but I'm not defenseless. Please just point me to a new tribe."

"No. You go. Go now. Go or die." He pointed back the way she was going.

"Tribe that way?" She pleaded one last time.

The taller meaner looking goblin jumped at her in an attack and she ran. Charisma +1! She heard laughter cackling behind her as she dodged arrows landing by her feet as she remembered to shadowalk to safety. +1 Dexterity! Having magic and remembering you have magic are two different things.
