Akira woke up, face down on her bed, and felt sick to her stomach. She glared at her clock, and she noticed that it was the same day, but it was morning now.

“I guess he really did send me back. This sucks.”

As Akira began to sit up, a familiar voice called to her.

“Akira! Breakfast is ready!”

“Crap, I have to get going for the council meeting.”

Akira quickly threw on her uniform, and ran down the stairs. She put on a fake smile, and began to quickly eat.

“What’s the rush?”

“Ish hash ah coshel meeting.”

“Don’t speak with your mouth full.”

Akira dad looked at her and sighed. He sat across from her and began to eat. As he took his first bite, Akira stood up.

“Thanks for the food mom. I gotta get going.”

Akira rushed out the door, and began her trek to school.

“Hey Aki!”

Akira looked over and began to run towards the voice.

“What’s uppp-”

Akira ran into Clyde, wrapping her arms around his waist. He stood there, his face flushed, and pondered what he should do in this situation.

“What’s this about?!”

“Oh, no reason.”

“There’s gotta be a reason!”

“Nope, not one.”

Clyde crossed his arms with a confused and flustered face.

“It’d be nice if this happened more often.”

“Nope, just this once.”

“Damn...”

Clyde put his hands on his head, and then went to put his arms around Akira, before she swatted them away.

“Uh-uh, this is one sided.”

Akira’s words made Clyde even more confused, and he continued to stare at Akira until he eventually found an answer that sounded good to him. Akira let go of Clyde’s waist and grabbed his wrist.

“Come on, we’re gonna be late.”

The two walked to the highschool, and sat together through the meeting, before eventually being dismissed to class. As the first class began, Akira began to think of ways to solve the problem she had at hand.

At first, Akira thought of simply not doing anything, but quickly realized that that was probably not a solution. She could attempt to find whoever or whatever did the murders before they happened, but that was highly unlikely, since it could be anyone in her whole town. She would be lucky if she found out by accident, but that was so unlikely that she couldn’t consider it option. As she had that thought, she could hear a voice in her ear, as if she had headphones in, or a walkie-talkie.

“Can you hear me?”

“Eh?!”

Everyone in the classroom looked towards Akira with concerned looks, and she became flustered.

“You don’t have to speak out loud, you just have to think words.”

“Who are you?”

“You’ve already met me.”

“Oh, you must be the magical voice in my head that I’ve had for years. It all makes sense.”

“Is that sarcasm I detect?”

“No... Never.”

The voice sighed.

“It’s rude to forget someone you are literally dependent on.”

“Oh, its you.”

“Yes, its me, the magical entity in you.”

“So what do you want?”

“I was trying to tell you that if you happen to run into the person responsible, I can probably tell you.”

“How would you know who it is?”

“It’s highly likely that some form of dark presence or magic will be surrounding them. I can detect those and tell you who it is.”

“You’re telling me that I’ve been able to detect magic and presences?!”

“Well no, you can’t. I can though.”

“Why can’t I?”

“You haven’t learned how to.”

“How do I learn how to?”

“It this whole meditation thing, putting out aura, stuff like that.”

“Sounds like a pain...”

“You are hopeless..., but anyway. I can detect the magic stuff if there is any, and I’ll let you know.”

“How far can you detect magic?”

“I can detect magic for about 300 feet, but in a broader sense. The closer I am to a magical entity, the easier it is for me to tell who it is.”

“Are you detecting any magic right now?”

“Of course I am, or I wouldn’t be giving you this talk.”

Akira started sweating. If Akira’s entity was detecting magic, it was likely that murderer is someone at her school.

“What am I supposed to call you by the way? Do you even have a name?”

“I suppose it would be easier if I did. I don’t have one now, so why don’t you come up with one.”

“Hal”

“You came up with that quick. Why Hal?”

“You just look like a Hal.”

“I’m leaving now.”

“Bye Hal!”

With a sigh, the voice of Hal disappeared. Akira looked up and saw that the teacher was standing over her, and that everyone in the classroom was gone.

“Go. To. Lunch.”

Akira shuffled on to her feet, and ran outside towards her normal eating spot. She sat down on her bench, and had the realization that had, again, forgotten her lunch. With a despaired look on her face, she began mumbling about how she could forget her lunch twice on the same day. As she kept mumbling, a familiar red-headed girl came up to her. Akira looked at her, and in her ear she heard something she really didn’t want to hear.

“We’ve got a big problem.”
