《The Nameless Seer》Principium [VI]

Upon collecting yourself, you set out to test the limits of this new power.

You walk up to the storehouse next door and check its contents. Much like the farmhouse, the building has largely been emptied out, and what remains are rusty farm tools and a few seeds lying about.

Normally you wouldn't be able to tell them apart, but as you are equipped with the "God's Eye" talent, you are quick to identify these mystery seeds.

[Carrot Seeds]

Quality: Good

Weight: 0.1

After a thorough search, you find and collect 25 carrots seeds. They vary in quality, but they'll do for your first crops. You abruptly hear your friend wildly barking outside and pocket your seeds for later.

Addressing his calls, you see a throng of green slimes in the distance. They encroach on the meadow and approach your homestead. You've never seen this variant of slime before, and you are taken aback by their numbers.

You squint at them and try to glean some more information using your God's Eye.

Poison Slime [⚥]

Level: 3

HP: 100/100

You recall having some experience with poison. And as your last battle with slimes went off without a hitch, you unsheathe your dagger and prepare to defend this house.

"We fight, Mystfox." you tap your friend on the back and charge at the small army of gelatinous fiends.

Each stab whittles down their hit points, and your short blade skill gets a decent improvement. Your friend though is hesitant in attacking using his teeth and promptly uses his tail to avoid poisoning himself.

The slimes retaliate by spraying you with noxious fumes. Clouds of sickly green fill the air and inhaling them, you feel your trachea burn.

You swiftly grab your friend and retreat, realizing you're way in over your head. Collapsing on the farmhouse hill, you overlook the situation and scratch your head at the predicament you find yourself in.

About 21 poison slimes remain, and they're all riled up from that stunt you just pulled.

You gain a few levels, but not enough that would warrant a triumphant sigh of relief. You would reach for your belt bag to check your journal, but you are busy taking in the fresh air. Poison is not good for the lungs.

Your wish to check your skills manifests as a command though, and in a blink of an eye, all your skills appear before you.

A head-up display overlays your right eye's vision. You close your left eye to see it better and it materializes in perfect clarity.

It's handy to be able to access your journal at a moment's notice. You take advantage of this convenience and examine your skills while lying with your face to the skies. You are eager to uncover the talents attached to each of them.

The two skills that grab your attention are your reading and farming. They're the two closest ones to leveling up, and you can't help but anticipate the benefits that come with this advancement.

But back to the task at hand. These slimes aren't giving up. Your only choice is to continuously unleash a flurry of slashes to keep them at bay, lest they overrun the homestead by noon. You turn to your friend and realize how much damage he's taken from the toxic gas.

Level: 15

HP: 1200/2500

And you order him to stay back. Slimes are not an ideal enemy for him to fight to begin with.

You take notes from his dynamic fighting style though and take that into consideration as you return for a second round. You wrap your cloak around your mouth and nose and pull out your dagger.

The monsters are not impressed and emit larger quantities of gas. While you can smell it, it doesn't affect you as much and you hack away at these gelatinous beasts.

Many fall before they catch on that you're not fazed by their toxic fumes. Desperate, they resort to tactics used by their blue brethren—ramming you with all their force. You pick up on this as they encircle you, and you await their first move.

Sure enough, two of them rush in to strike you. You, inspired by your friend's agile movements, hop out of the way. And they crash into each other and burst into pieces, leaving behind green gemstones.

10 remain, more than you bargained for, but way less than you can handle. Your stamina is running low, but so are their health bars. You take this as the prime window of opportunity to swipe your blade in a full circle.

And in one fell swoop, the slimes are sliced into nothingness. Another victory to add to your name. Or lack thereof.

Your friend happily skids down the hill and leaps onto you, relieved that the poison slimes did not get the best of you. He lands on top of you, which annoys you greatly, but you appreciate his sentiment nonetheless.

But your work is far from done. The pieces of petrified slime on the ground will be a pain to individually collect. You sheathe your now-battered weapon and proceed to individually pick up these green stones. When against green grass, this process is made infinitely more difficult.

Your friend tilts his head, confused as to why you'd go through all this trouble, but ultimately gathers all of them up in a single pile.

He does so in a matter of seconds. His sense of smell naturally aids you in your otherwise hopeless quest. You feel dumb, rightfully so, and reward your friend with head pats.

Your「TAMING」skill has increased to Level 13!

Upon having God's Eye installed, your text boxes no longer congratulate you for increasing a level. It's a minute detail, but it does bother you slightly. Perhaps because no one is around to commend you for your efforts.

The thought of being able to speak, with not a soul to speak to, does depress you a little bit.

"But I have... you, right?" you stroke your friend on his back, giving him more love than he probably deserves. But that isn't of any importance to you. What's important is, he's been by your side since two days ago.

And two days is all the time you've spent living in this realm. You may as well have spent your entire life with this Mystfox. His unquestioning loyalty warms your heart as you fill your bag with more shards of petrified slime.

You trek up the hill with a belt bag brimming with goodies. Now, with all intruders taken care of, you look to the fields to make your mark.

Since you're only working with 25 carrot seeds, a small plot of land within reasonable walking distance of the farmhouse will suffice. You find the ideal spot and use the rusty hoe from the storehouse to till the soil.

From noon until midnight, you cultivate a cozy patch for your 25 carrot seeds. And you distribute them evenly so they do not intrude on each other's side. That is basic farming knowledge you learn, and that is farming knowledge you shall adhere to.

When you are done, you are covered in dirt and grime, but satisfied. Your friend is also slathered in mud, but more so due to the fact he'd constantly roll around in the soil while you were working in the fields.

You wipe the sweat off your brow and head back to the farmhouse. It doesn't occur to you that tracking mud in the house is a big no-no, and you sleep in the bed upstairs with your dirty boots on.

End of Day 3

Objective Completed: Find a new home.

Current Objective: Learn what it means to live.

When you wake up, you are horrified by the consequences of your thoughtless actions. Your friend's beautiful coat of pure white fur has been tainted by sod. And the cracks between the floorboards host innumerable grains of dark brown soil.

The house is a mess, and the white sheets you've slept on are begrimed by your unhygienic self.

You've somehow made this barely habitable hovel, an unlivable mud hut. You deeply regret your failure in conducting cleanliness and scurry to the storehouse to make things right. Your friend wakes up, and again, he is confused as to why you're so energetic in the early morning.

When you return, you have with you a broom in your hands, and you are resolved to restore this sordid place.

"Come Mystfox, let clean!" you loudly proclaim.

The animal tires of your shenanigans and sleeps in the storehouse. So much for unquestioning loyalty.
